The Barn Reviews

Has an Easter break at the barn with family and Willow our spaniel. Nigel was there to greet us and show us around. Facilities are excellent, with everything you could need for your stay. Had a few issues getting out of the sofas, but that could be down to us oldies not being as agile as we used to be. Lovely walks around the area which Willow enjoyed. She also had a great time chasing the rabbits in the adjoining paddock, without any success I might add. All in all a lovely break we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Claire
Absolutely loved our weekend here at the barn. The house was lovely and clean, nice touch with a few cakes on arrival . Outside was beautiful and hot tub was kept clean our whole stay. We would definitely choose to come back here some time.
Patricia
Cottage is lovely, settles very low for us oldies. Not enough comfortable chairs, beds very comfortable Cottage is clean and a good area
Just back from a short stay for my sisters 60th birthday . Nigel, the host, was very welcoming and showed us around. The barn is immaculate, and we had a lovely stay. Thank you .
Amybeth
We had the most incredible and comfortable stay at Nigel and Debbies stunning accommodation. We spent Christmas here and they were even kind enough to decorate and leave a tree for us. Truly going above and beyond. All the facilities were clean and in perfect working order. We had plenty of plates and cutlery for our group to cook and eat a full Christmas dinner. We would be so pleased to come and stay again. Thank you so much for being so welcoming and kind during our stay! Also a shout out to Charlie for giving us a lift into town on the last day. It was so appreciated! Highly recommend staying at this beautiful property for a calm getaway with a hot tub as a treat!
Wow what a cottage really enjoyed it would certainly. Go again
Caroline
Beautiful accommodation equipped to the highest standard and set amongst fantastic large gardens in stunning countryside. Fabulous large hot tub that was well used! Lovely attentive but unobtrusive hosts. Highly recommended.
Lauren
Girly weekend away to celebrate Christmas. The Barn is stunning, it gives country cottage vibes, the pictures do not do this place justice. The log burner and hot tub were a firm favourite, it had everything you needed & the owners made us some lovely scones with clotted cream and jam, which went down a treat! It is also dog friendly and very secure. We had the best time and we would 100 recommend to anyone thinking of going. There is a coop and pub within 1 minute walking distance too.
The Barn is a beautifully presented and well maintained property in a lovely part of the country. The owner, Nigel, genuinely cares about his guests and wants them to enjoy their stay. Everything is good quality and stylish. We stayed in OctoberNovember but made good use of the hot tub and in the Summer, the sole access to the garden areas would be an absolute bonus. We would definitely stay there again.
Wow... .we've had an absolutely brilliant stay at The Barn, everything you need for a home from home stay was there. It was clean comfortable and welcoming. Lovely, well maintained garden and hot tub we're just perfect, the paddock was a great bonus for our four legged buddy too. The kitchen appliances are all top quality, cutlery and crockery a plenty. We didn't use the car as the area is just full of beautiful walks and stunning scenery. We're looking forward to returning again, Nigel and Debbie are about if required but not invasive. Thank you both for a wonderful holiday Pete, Janet and family
Michael
We had the most amazing time at this barn stay! The place was beautifully renovated cozy, spotless, and full of rustic charm with all the modern comforts. The attention to detail really stood out, from the comfy bedding and wellequipped kitchen to the thoughtful touches throughout. The highlight for us was definitely the hot tub it was perfectly clean and so relaxing after a day of exploring. Sitting under the stars with a glass of wine in the bubbling water was pure bliss! The setting itself was peaceful and private, surrounded by lovely countryside views and the soothing sounds of nature. Our hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, offering great local recommendations and making sure we had everything we needed. It honestly felt like a home away from home.
We cannot say enough great things about this place! Thank you so much to Nigel and Debbie for the warm welcome and for going the extra mile to make our stay extra special. The Barn was very well equipped quiet and cosy, the hot tub sparkling clean each day, and the gravel garden and paddock was a joy for our dog meg. We cannot wait to come back again thank you so much again.
Sandra
A very comfortable and well equipped cottage with very friendly and welcoming hosts. The hot tub was lovely to relax in after a day of sightseeing and the garden very safe for the dog. The fish and chip shop in the village was excellent, as was the Indian takeaway in Stanhope! Lots to see and do in the area.
Nicola
Lovely property in a lovely area , had everything we could need for our long weekend, we was there for my sons 30th birthday, what a gorgeous garden the weather was good to us , we enjoyed using the hot tub. Plenty of room for six adults and a dog , who had run of the paddock on the back .

A lovely cottage, equipped with everything you need to have a great holiday. The linens were all of a very high quality. All the kitchen appliances were extremely high end. The whole cottage was spotless. The hot tub and the paddock were beautiful additions. Comfortable beds and so much storage space in the bedrooms. A lovely village location with stunning panoramic views. An ideal base for exploring the countryside.
We had a wonderful 1 week stay at this beautiful house. Everything was perfect and even nicer in real life than the photos. Plenty to do in the area and very welcoming, friendly hosts who are on site to answer any questions. Enclosed garden for our small dogs. Would love to return some time.

We had the most wonderful stay at The Barn! The host was so lovely and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The thoughtful touches fresh flowers and delicious homemade scones and jam made our visit extra special. The cottage itself was immaculately clean, beautifully equipped, and had everything we could possibly need. After a day exploring the stunning countryside, the hot tub was absolute bliss. We also loved enjoying a glass or two! of prosecco in the paddock while taking in the incredible views pure relaxation. A perfect place for a perfect retreat. We cant wait to come back!

The property was superb, absolutely loved our stay. Nigel and Debbie were great hosts. The Barns position, situated in a fabulous secure courtyard, lovely walled garden with hot tub and large paddock area made it perfect for our dog. We would highly recommend this property and will hopefully be back.
We spent a wonderful week at The Barn at Frosterley. It was the perfect space for us and our dog, Finn. The paddock was heaven for him and safe for us to let him explore. The views from the top were beautiful and so peaceful. The Barn is immaculate, has everything you need, and for everything else there is a well stocked Coop just down the road. The hot tub was fantastic after a long day of exploring too. Nigel and Debbie were great hosts, they were there if we needed them but not intrusive. They gave us some great suggestions for walks and places to eat, and even turned up with a lovely bottle of wine when we mentioned we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We have stayed in lots of holiday cottages and can honestly say we think this was probably the best we have stayed in. The perfect week.
Samantha
Amazing accommodation. Very comfortable and homely. Layout really suited us. Stunning views. Host was so friendly and attentive. Little touches made all the difference. A great place for exploring the region. Would definitely recommend this!

This was our second visit, so impressed were we first time round. The Barn is a great space with ample room for a family of 6 & the dog. Facilities are great with everything you could need. Hosts are wonderfully friendly and helpful. Frosterly is a lovely quiet village set in beautiful countryside. This is a great base from which to explore or simply relax.
We had a fantastic stay at The Barn, Nigel sent a text prior to our arrival with suggestions of places to eat and visit and met us on arrival to show us around this beautiful cottage. The hot tub was a lovely luxury and we used it most nights after a day exploring. Wearside is a hidden gem and we hope to be back again in the future.
Olivia
Myself and some friends wanted a quiet break away for a week, and this property delivered. Beautifully presented with homemade scones, beautiful furnishings and everything we could need, our stay was fabulous, and more than worth the cost. I hope to be back very soon, and will bring a four legged friend with me too!
Nicola
The barn is in a beautiful location with amazing views and has everything inside you could need . There was 6 of us and we wasn't struggling for space . The barn is well equipped for any needs . The barn was cosy , clean and comfortable and finished to a high standard. The hot tub was amazing and was cleaned daily . The fire within the property was a wood burner and very cosy too . A nice addition from Nigel and Debbie we had milk in the fridge and some delicious home made scones . Thank you for a lovely stay .
This property is a credit to the owners. Its perfection. Everything in the property had been thought of, we wanted for nothing we even had homemade jam and cream to go with the homemade scones that were waiting for us on arrival along with a vase of fresh spring flowers. The garden & paddock area were a bonus, a massive area for the dogs to run and play safely and for us to sit and enjoy the sunshine . 5 star all round. Highly recommend this property fab location for exploring this beautiful part of the country. Definitely want to revisit and will recommend to others.
Fantastic property the barn is in a great location with easy access to dog walks and a local pub. We loved the open plan kitchen living area with the log burner for the cold winter nights. The enclosed garden with hot tub was also perfect for us with our dog. The whole property has been done to a very high standard, is extremely comfortable and the owners even kindly left some lovely cakes and welcome pack which were greatly appreciated. We would recommend this property without hesitation and will be back.
Carley
A beautiful property in an idiotic location. The Barn is modern but cosy and the landscaped garden is a joy. Easy access to the dales for walking with breath taking views, sampling local food mushy peas with a Sunday roast dinner is now one of my favourite things!
Joanne
From initially booking through Skykes until the day of our departure, the hosts Debbie & Nigel were fantastic with their communication. I messaged Debbie the day before our 4 night arrival over the new year break and was given clear directions and instructions. Upon arrival there was ample parking. The property was well described and as lovely as expected. There was complimentary teacoffeemilk, along with some rather tasty mince pies and mulled wine. The heating was on for our arrival which was a nice touch when its freezing outside. The place was spotless and very well presented. It didnt take us long to get the log burner roaring and we felt right at home. Hot tub was an added bonus. We even caught Nigel carrying out his top up duties early one morning and ensuring the hot tub was lovely and clean throughout our stay. The weather wasnt too kind to us for the whole stay but when we got chance to go out and about we had a lovely walk along the river with the dogs. We visited the local shop which had absolutely everything anyone could need without having to venture further afield. We also visited the Frosterley pub several times which was such a welcoming local. Everyone was so friendly. Kids and dogs were welcomed too. We all 4 adults, 2 children, 2 dogs had an amazing time at The Barn. Highly recommended if you are planning a trip to Weardale.
Melanie
Really was a home from home. Had everything we needed to enjoy a lovely week away for Xmas. Cottage was decorated for Xmas. Paddock was perfect for letting our dog play out safely. We enjoyed exploring the area then coming home to the log fire.
Kathryn
The barn was perfect, lovely little touches like cupcakes on arrival, and having spare bits in the cupboard if we'd forgotten anything. Our dog absolutely loved the paddock, even in winter we sat up on the chairs at the top a couple of times! Hot tub was perfect, what looked like a nice new kitchen was lovely to cook with! Location was perfect for walks right on your doorstep, only drove once the whole week! We'll definitely be back, thank you so much for your hospitality! What a prefect winters break!
Philip
Came away for a long weekend to celebrate a friends 40th. Loved the property, cosy, log fire, hot tub. Hosts were very welcoming and shared things to do and see in the area. Lovely little touches such as toiletries, milk, and baked goods! Would definitely recommend.

We tayed at the Barn in Frosterley for five nights and had a great 5 experience. The property is beautiful and spotless. The gardens, paddock and hot tub are the perfect place to relax and have breakfast or drinks. The owners Debbie and Nigel are on call when you need them and so friendly. Without doubt 1010. Nigel & Debbie were lovely hosts and nothing was too much bother. The property is lovely and well kitted out, we even got cake and flowers when we arrived! Hot tub was serviced each morning and the BBQ came in handy on a nice evening. Would highly recommend the property and the hosts
We loved this cottage . It was clean , well equipped and Nigel the owner checked in on us to ensure we had everything we needed . The garden was perfect for our dog as it was fully enclosed so she could run about safely . There was also a paddock which was also enclosed for her to get a good run about . Loved the got tub and the garden was nice and private. Location was great for Durham , Beamish and the Dale's.
The Barn was a delight to stay at. The whole building was at high spec. The beds were very comfortable and the hot tub always at a good temperature allowing us to stay out even when the air was chilly. Local facilities are consistent with a village but, Bishop Auckland has everything you need in terms of groceries. Nigel and Debbie were helpful without being intrusive. Strongly recommend.
We stayed at The Barn with my older parents and children age 3 and 6. It was perfect. Wonderful hosts, really friendly, personable and accommodating. Nice quiet area, yet plenty around to do and central to lots of lovely places. The barn itself is stylish and relaxing, the layout is great. We enjoyed the hot tub and used the bbq when the sun came out. There is a play park right across the road too. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We hope to return sometime soon.
Beautifully finished, with excellent attention to detail. Every need covered. Perfect location for activities for the children wolsingham park and Stanhope stepping stones within a few minutes. Immaculately clean and well furnished. Definitely a 5 rating from us!
