Millrace Cottage Reviews

Millrace is very cosy, comfortable and well presented. We will probably stay again this is our second stay in one of this site's cottages. Check carefully when locking the front door as the key needs an extra turn. One of the toilets and two of the cold taps make a loud noise, as though there's trapped air in the system which may need looking at. Also there were no wooden utensils for the kitchen. The lady in the office is pleasant and helpful. The area itself is in a very good position to explore that part of the lakes with a good pub, farm cafeshop and fuel station very close by.
This cottage was perfect for our Christmas week away in the Lakes. Its far enough away from the A591 to not be able to hear any traffic. It's around a 10 minute drive in to Windermere from the cottage. The rooms themselves are all pretty spacious and the four of us had plenty of space to move around. Kitchen was well stocked and extra cooking tins and tin foil were provided for our Xmas dinner. A short walk to a pub where the food is really good. A petrol station just up the road from the pub in case you need anything and a farm shop and cafe as you enter off of the A591.We will definitely be staying here again. If we had to pick anything to change it would be the TV. If it could be changed to a smart TV so films could be watched from your phone. I know people dont go to the Lakes to watch TV but if it's raining or at Christmas it would be a bonus otherwise it's pretty perfect.

Very clean and tidy. Beds quite soft but comfortable. Great location just outside windermere short drive, with a nice popular pub close by. Lots of parking available. Only 30 seconds from the main A road. Great farm shop also near by, up the hill on the way out. This was our second stay in one of the three cottages, and will be back in the future. Watch out for the ceiling light in the living room, its a bit low for tall people, you will might walk into this I did twice.
The setting and location of the cottage are brilliant and our dog loved sleeping on the underfloor heating! Fully stocked kitchen you will need to bring foil, oil, salt etc with everything you need to cook for yourselves, or plate up a chinese from the Magic Wok. Just make sure you really shut the freezer door, otherwise it doesn't shut properly. All in all, we had a great time here and have already started looking at when we can come back. One thing to note, the light fitting in the living room is way too low. Im 5'5 and hit my head a few times I have a jaw issue and the impact really set it off. Swapping it to a ceiling fitting would be an easy fix.

Millrace Cottage is nice and cosy perfect for a family. Being in Ings meant that there was easy access to the southern lakes area. Cottage was well equipped with everything that we needed.
Great cottage been before 11 times
Lovely little cottage definitely would recommend this accommodation
Thankyou we had a lovely time at mill race and will recomend it to friends and family. Only one snag both my husband and son are over 6ft tall and kept hitting their heads on the light in the living room you would have thought after the first few times they would remember but no they did not still have the bumps to prove it.. Once again thankyou for a lovely holiday and will definately try and come again. Loved the pictures around the cottage. well done
Emilie
Thank you for a lovely week! The cottage was everything we needed! Thank you also for responding so quickly when the oven wasnt working and sorting it. We had a great time!
First of all this cottage is lovely, it's in a great position for the lake District. It was very clean when we arrived and I hope we left it clean when we left. A few things...the cottage seemed to be set up for winter with thick quilts on the beds so we all roasted and secondly the underfloor heating was on pretty much constantly which I had to virtually turn off. No oven gloves which I found strange as well as we cooked a few times to save money. We unfortunately had a problem with the people next door on a couple of nights which resulted in me banging on the wall at midnight and telling them to shut up. Overall would we stay there again?? Absolutely 100 if a few things were sorted before.
Millrace cottage is the perfect place to get away from the hussle of every day life, tranquil retreat & good place to explore the lakes with being close to windermere, a little welcome pack with just a few local goodies would be nice & perhaps a little bird feeding station as there are plenty about and lovely to listen to, cause after all it would be a small of the fee charged, on the whole loved our weeks stay.
Millrace is a delightful cottage in a beautiful setting. All the home comforts you need.
A comfortable and warm cottage, conveniently situated for easy access to Windermere and beyond. Exactly as described. We 5 adults enjoyed our stay tremendously, in spite of rain and would definitely return.
We stayed with 2 kids and my dad who took the spacious downstairs bedroom of this lovely comfy cottage in an ideal location for exploring the Lake District. The village pub, fantastic farm shop & cafe and service station are nearby and the cottage itself is on the fringe of a clean and quiet holiday park by a river. The cottage is warm and clean with comfortable beds and living space. It has all the kitchen essentials for self catering. My only feedback would be laymans instructions on using the washer dryer. I was unable to get the drying cycle to work for our swimming towels despite googling the manual. Also maybe a handrail to assist showering inout of the bath. We had such a wonderful stay, thank you.
Lovely cottage and site, very quiet with great access to Windermere and Kendal.
Kathryn
The cottage is perfectly located on a quiet but friendly caravan park. Ideal for visiting lots of parts of the Lakes. Site staff were super friendly and helpful. The cottage is clean and compact. The bathroom is lovely and the heated flooring meant that we were all very warm. The dog was a bit confused! The lack of any significant cupboards, however does mean you are 'living out of your bag' particularly when you have to pack for all weather for a trip to the Lakes. Only tiny bedside table drawers available. The other thing I would say is pack everything that you are going to need if you are cooking. There is nothing provided at all in the kitchen. I got caught out this time as I forgot to pack salt and pepperolive oil. Not a problem as there is a garage locally which had everything we needed. But usually holiday cottages have a few bits and pieces to use.
Lovely cottage stayed on this park few times over the years as I cannot fault it's location and the facilities offered. Definitely will be coming back
Lovely cottage and perfect for small parties. For us it was fine but for 5 people the sitting room and kitchen would be a bit cramped Loved the underfloor heating. But better instructions as where things are would help even if its look in the drawer in the living room!
Claire
Very cute cottage and great location. I would highly recommend it.

Pictures make cottage look a lot better than actually is WIFI non existent ... Pictures make cottage look a lot better than actually is WIFI non existent washing machine didn't work cottage needs a good facelift and a good clean
The kitchen table was sticky had not been cleaned properly we went and bought some polish th clean it properly. The key to the property was awkward it took some time to get used to unlock as we tried to get into the property.

This was a lovely place to stay and as my first booking for a staycation I'm delighted with the experience! The cottage was relatively easy to find though the road in is quite narrow and everything was as instructed. Place was immaculately clean and it had all the amenities necessary including dishwashing tablets. The location was as tranquil as I hoped and the cottage was lovely and cosy! The only thing that surprised me was finding it was an attached property which didn't seem so obvious from the description photos. Otherwise, very pleased with my visit and I would definitely consider it again in the future.
Michael
Very comfortable cottage, well furnished and comfortable beds. Kitchen well equipped incase of wet stay in days. Large patio area with table and chairs. Very nice indeed, nice quiet location, easily accessible, would go again.
Carolyn
The cottage was really lovely ,clean and comfortable ,within a quiet park, with great views out of the living room windows. It is in a fabulous location to be able to visit different areas of interest and on a really handy bus route leave your car parked up . Across the road is a brewery and pub which was great and down the road is the Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley walkable or bus route. Overall, would recommend this property wholeheartedly and was really sad to leave. May I wish all future holiday makers a terrific time
Nice property, we have been staying here for approx 10yrs now, the only downside ... Nice property, we have been staying here for approx 10yrs now, the only downside is all the prices have sky rocketed since the Covid Pandemic
The Cottage is basically comfortable and in a great location, but a few details need attention. Bathroom could do with updating and has a noisy cistern. Outside seating is needs renewing. Privacy in the Lounge is an issue as it has a large window directly facing the main route through the site nets perhaps?. The lounge seating would be insufficient for 5 people but was fine for 2 of us. These are little things that did not detract from a wonderful week.
We love Millrace Cottage, and this was our third time staying there. It is very comfortable and well presented, and we had another great stay. Thank you! While we were there this time there was a problem with the hot water, and after I rang in to report it, the owner had an engineer come the same afternoon to sort out the issue. It was resolved promptly with no fuss at all, and friendly and polite service from everyone involved.
Gordon
A great comfortable little cottage with all necessary facilities included, and plenty of room for a family with a pet. The cottage is only a couple of miles from Windermere and also close to Kendal. Personally, I'm not a lover of the latches on the doors, particularly when one needs to use the facilities in the night. Attention to detail of minor maintenance would make it perfect. Thanks
Claire
Very clean and tidy cottage, a little on the tight side for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, ideally located to visit places. More instructors labels for what and where things are would be helpful. We had no idea till at least a few days into our holiday that the switch on the wall outside the bathroom turned on the towel heater. Also a very sticky kitchen table, couldn't get it off no matter what we used. A little over priced to say it was October and not the school holidays.
Anthony
It would be a very good idea to put some instructions in the house about how to work things especially for overseas visitors. It took us 5 days to figure out how to turn the heat on. The washer works but we never got the dryer function to work necessitating a trip to the launderette and lots of soggy clothes on the towel rail. We didn't quite get the broiler figured out. Some labels on all the power switches as to which appliance they work would be helpful. These are small simple easy fixes that would help a great deal. Otherwise a lovely clean wellappointed comfortable cottage. Any staff we have spoken to have been polite and helpful.
Nice place, very practical location. So close to both Windemere and Kendall and with a pub at walking distance... big bonus. However, we didn't realise the cottage itself was right on the grounds just after the entrance of a holiday park. Also, the toilets made a weird, awfully loud, noise when flushing, waking up people in the night. Hopefully a plumber can fix this for the next people to stay in this cottage, but it was great to have two toilets though, especially when you come back from a daytrip and everyone has to go at the same time . I think 800 pw in September was a bit steep for this cottage, but below 600 we would probably consider staying again. The cottage was nice and clean and the beds were comfortable. Thank you.
Amanda
Great location and beautiful cottage, would definitely recommend.
The cottage was superb and in such a wonderfully tranquil place whilst being within easy distance of all of the Lake District. The perfect place to relax and unwind. I would certainly return. Excellent!!
Good location not far from Windermere and Staveley. Cottage on corner plot beautiful views. The location was within walking distance to pub and service station.
