Hornshayne Farmhouse Reviews

Deborah
We had a great week on the farm the accommodation was very cosy and comfortable, and Andrew and Sally made us feel very welcome. The little ones enjoyed watching the milking and collecting eggs, meeting the new calves and lambs, and playing in the outdoor play area. It was lovely being free to explore the fields and tracks, soaking up the tranquil atmosphere. We appreciated the time Andrew took to explain various aspects of farm life, not too busy to answer our questions. The farm is remote and we had no mobile signal, but the WiFi was good. The farmhouse has plenty of room for all, and we loved eating in the large, wellequipped kitchen. Definitely a great place for a multi generational family holiday!
Thank you for a lovely stay in your wonderful farmhouse. Great facilities and very welcoming. Great to be welcomed into the farm. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, but still only 20 min drive to a town.
Gillian
We were celebrating my husbands 70th birthday with our two sons and their families and Hornshayne Farmhouse proved to be absolutely perfect, situated in the most wonderful setting with views of the surrounding countryside. Sally, Andrew and Ellis made us so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Our four grandchildren, of varying ages ranging from 3 to 15, thoroughly enjoyed all the different activities on offer, including a fabulous games room and lots of lovely play equipment for the younger children. The house was very comfortable, clean and wellequipped with plenty of space to accommodate everyone. One of the highlights of our stay was being given a guided tour round the farm, watching the cows being milked in the milking parlour and meeting the adorable new calves in their pens. Ellis even gave our two youngest a trip round on his quad bike trailer. Thank you for a brilliant weekend. We would love to come back and have no hesitation in recommending this lovely house to friends and family.
This was our 3rd visit to Hornshayne as a 3 generation family and we have already booked our return visit next year. The house and facilities are second to none. There is ample space for children and teenagers to hang out in the garden and games room and the grownups could relax in peace. The owners are delightful and very helpful and attentive. The working farm welcomes visitors and all the staff were happy to chat to us about the work of the farm and animal care. The children had an amazing time watching calving and were encouraged to help feed the calves. We were also highly entertained by the antics of the goats! The location is out of the way but in easy reach of the lovely attractions of North Devon. Breakfast on Beer Beach is not to be missed, even in the rain!
We have had a lovely stay at the Hornshayne Farmhouse. The house is very spacious and comfortable and you are surrounded on all sides by rolling fields. We woke up each day to the natural sounds of the countryside. So peaceful. The farmer and his wife are very welcoming and gave us free range to roam the farm and their fields. We enjoyed collecting the eggs and seeing the cows being milked. My granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor play area too. They kindly provided her with new sand. We hope to go back again next year.
A very comfortable farm house well equipped for a family of 10. The owners were exceedingly helpful and friendly. Having a play area and games room plus access to the farm with milking, egg collecting etc made our stay particularly enjoyable for the children. We have rebooked for next year.
Our family of 3 generations so enjoyed staying in this beautiful farmhouse set in the beautiful East Devon countryside. The farm owners are so friendly and we were able to experience the working farm. I would highly recommend staying here and it easily sleeps and accommodates 11 people.
We had a lovely family holiday at Hornshayne Farmhouse. Some great walks straight from the farm, easy to get to the beach and great to be involved with the farm activities. Plenty of space for 5 adults, two boys and three dogs. We loved the fresh eggs every day. Excellent price for the facilities. I am sure we will be back at some point in the future. Thank you
Adrian
A brilliant farmhouse in a beautiful location and perfect for a three generation family holiday. The grandchildren aged 6 to 19 years old all had a brilliant time. They loved the play barn and walking to the top of the hill to watch the sunset! But their highlight was feeding the calves and having rides on the quad bike. The kitchen was big and well suited to 11 of us sitting down to breakfast and evening meals together and having five bathrooms meant no one was queuing for showers!!! The owners were very friendly and welcoming and helped make our stay even more special. Thank you.
Great house with a lovely location. Loved the history and quirky rooms.Had every thing we needed and more. The grandchildren loved the farm animals and the outside play area.We were blessed with great weather as well.lovely welcome pack on arrival.Owners very friendly and happy to share the history of this amazing farmhouse.Would highly recommend and would happily stay again. Many thanks for a great birthday weekend
Claire
We had the BEST time staying at Hornshayne Farm. We was a family of 11 celebrating a birthday and we cant recommend the place enough! The house is absolutely gorgeous and there was plenty of room to accommodate all of us. The facilities were perfect games room, toys for the kids, plenty of bathrooms, comfy rooms there were even spare wellies if needed! Andrew and Sally were the perfect hosts nothing was too much trouble including letting us watch a very intense and difficult birth of a lamb. Hats off to them who do an amazing job 247 in all weathers. We went for lovely walks, enjoyed the games room, made the most of the large social kitchen, the kids enjoyed playing in the stream and generally we all loved being able to be all together in this charming rustic home. We was all so sad to leave but we're already planning when we can go back. Honestly could not recommend this beautiful holiday home enough!
Andrew
Absolutely fantastic. This Farmhouse has everything and more,it felt as if a family were actually living there and had simply gone away for a few days and left us watching the place.anything you needed was always where you expected to find it ! Not hidden away like so many holiday lets. The Kitchen had top quality utensils and crockery and in fact was such a fantastic room we spent most of the time sat around the huge table.everywhere else was extremely clean and oozed character.with some parts of building 700 years old yet super cozy with excellent heating system.we were Greeted by the owner Andrew a friendly chap shortly after arrival and made to feel welcome and he came across once more to show us where to find a high chair we had requested but apart from that other than a wave sometimes from Him or his Wife Sally as you drove in or out of the lane we were left alone.our 3 daughters, partners and grandchildren loved exploring the farm and seeing all kinds of animals and my grandson had his dad up at 5.30 am to go and see the cows milked !The garden is secure and our dog could come and go from the house as he wanted .we cant wait to go back again next time probably summer so we can take in more of the fantastic surroundings . Thankyou again Andrew and Sally

Had a great time will be going back
We had a wonderful stay at Hornshaye Farmhouse. The accommodation was very spacious, clean and well equipped. There was plenty of room in the kitchen and lounge for 11 of us. Children were well catered for in the kitchen, in the house and outside. The garden was absolutely lovely with masses of space for children and dogs to play. The farmer and his family were extremely welcoming and friendly and it was so lovely to be able to wonder unhindered around the farm and surrounding fields. The children really enjoyed watching the milking and seeing the new calves. I cannot think of one criticism!
We loved our stay at Hornshayne Farm. Positives fantastic accommodation for 10 people really spacious, fully enclosed garden so very safe for our dogs they had a wonderful stay, great facilities kitchen had everything we needed, responsive owners when we had any queries. No real negatives just some suggestions some bouncier pillows would be nice, a couple more tea towels, the brown sofa and chairs were so low that we all struggled to get out of them especially our elderly parents, a map of the farm and walks would be useful the information book said it was included but we couldn't find it and the table football needed some attention.
Nicola
Had a great stay here with extended family, everyone found it a relaxing retreat from hustle and bustle of working life. The house was fab with lots of nooks and crannies to explore, the games room was a hit and the play area was perfect. Would have liked to be able to tidy up after ourselves a little during our stay but could only find a vacuum cleaner , no broom or dust pan and brush, maybe we werent looking in the right places.
Stephen
Lovely and peaceful stay, thank you.
Wow ! what a fabulous place with plenty of space inside and out . Took me family such a success. Great for children. Beautiful countryside, games facilities . Near to Beaches absolutely perfect . Would highly recommend.
Richard
An excellent holiday location
We really enjoyed our stay at Hornshayne farmhouse. There was much for the grandchildren to see and do, they especially enjoyed interacting with the farm animals. Quad bike ride was great too. All in a beautiful location, we would definitely recommend this property, and would consider coming back again for a family gathering.
Just returned from a lovely weeks stay at the farm with all the family, with ages ranging from 163yrs old. The farmhouse itself is beautiful, in an incredible setting. Our children loved seeing and meeting all the animals and the hosts were incredibly welcoming. Would definitely recommend a stay here and hope to return one day!
Deborah
An excellent stay, will come back again.
Rachel
What an absolutely amazing place! Everything as described and there was nothing that the farmhouse didn't have. Family were friendly and informative and we particularly enjoyed the farm tour and watching the cows being milked and the calves being fed. The weather wasn't the best but that didn't affect our stay. Will be back again soon.
Had a excellent time staying at the farmhouse 5 stars, I would highly recommend ... Had a excellent time staying at the farmhouse 5 stars, I would highly recommend the farmhouse for any family with young kidsDogs, great place for a big family holiday
This was a fantastic holiday let with added farm experience for the adults and children. The house is really well equipped and there wasn't anything we needed that wasn't in the cupboards or easily available. The teenager appreciated the games room and the younger children were happy to play on the ride on toys and in the stream for hours. The dishwasher and washing machine both got good workouts while we were there! Highlight for most of the party was watching the birth of a calf. Everyone on the farm was really helpful and happy to answer any of our questions.
Verity
Had an amazing time away, cottage was lovely, clean and welcoming. It was lovely being able to sit around the table as a family. The views were amazing, waking up to the sound of cows and sheep every day. The owners were very welcoming. The children loved seeing the farm and having a look around, seeing the calves. The games room was used most days. The outside play area was great for the kids too. Lots of space so not under each others feet. Would definitely recommend to others. Had an fabulous time.
Catherine
We loved every minute of our stay. Its a beautiful setting. Sally and Andrew were on hand and helpful throughout our week there . The house was well equipped and suited our needs. The children loved having the space and outdoor area to play. We were lucky to get a tractor ride with Andrew as he was very busy and quad bike ride with grandad that the children will remember forever! We had a farm tour and saw the cows being milked. Would definitely recommend
Sandra
Lovely big place, well kept, big rooms, huge well equipped, stone floored kitchen with large table and lots of crockerycutlery for all. Furniture and kitchen in keeping with it being an old farmhouse. Inevitably the floors are a bit uneven in places, but an 80 year old managed fine. Briliiant to see several swallows and other birds nesting around the building. We were all adults, but would be great for a family with the play area and the games room and the almost Narnia sized wardrobes The hosts were generous with some milk and eggs provided on arrival. Loved the surrounding countryside and pretty villages, however any drivers do need to be confident on narrow deep lanes, with passing places. Easily parked 3 cars on site. Really enjoyed our stay.
We had a wonderful week. The owners very friendly and on hand if anything was needed. Charlie gave us a tour of the farm which was very interesting and Ross took our grandson out on the quad bike around the farm. Lovely location and ideal for a chilled out and relaxing break
Catherine
Excellent accommodation and perfect for our two families to get together. This was our second visit. Flexible accommodation and the hosts called us a few days before to ask how we wanted the beds made up, ie as singles, double. Everything we needed and it was great to have access to the washing machine to lessen the load on the return home. Eggs and necessities were left for us on arrival to see us through. The farm is beautiful. We will definitely be back.again!
Caroline
The perfect place to stay with young children!
An amazing location. Lovely house and well equipped. Plenty of space inside well maintained and enclosed gardens. Made to feel very welcome. The games room in the barn is also well equipped and kept the teens occupied.
Raymond
The property was warm, clean and had everything we needed to make our holiday comfortable. It was also a lovely historical building with an amazing thatched roof set in wonderful scenery which added to the pleasure of our visit. You were very kind and the children had a great time and loved the farm activities they were offered. It is a shame the council can not keep the lanes in a better state of upkeep.
We had a lovely break in the farmhouse. Plenty of room for the kids to run around and amenities great. In particular enjoyed the Minnow fishing
Perfect for a family gathering
Graham
We had lovely break with the family for my wife's special birthday! Its a beautiful spacious comfortable house in a stunning location. Very highly recommended. The fully mechanised milking parlour was fascinating, thanks to Andrew for the guided tour.
Sandra
Lovely farmhouse with loads of character and plenty of space for everyone. Great views and walks, there was no need to venture any further than the farm. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the cows being milked and watching the newborn calves being fed. Would love to visit again.
A lovely place to spend a family Christmas! Lots of space, very warm, with a huge kitchen that comfortably sat us all for meals. The farm is quite remote and so very quiet with fantastic night skies. Andrew was very happy for us to roam at will with our dogs over his 400 acres which was a real treat. The description says 6 bathrooms we could only find 5 ! but that was enough! And a knife sharpener and pair of scissors would have been useful in the kitchen!
Eileen
All the extended family really enjoyed their stay at the Farmhouse especially the grandchildren. The play facilities, house and games room were ideal for them. Seeing all the animals and being allowed to collect an egg each from the hens made their holiday. Comfortable accommodation and beds, we all slept well!
