Valley View Reviews

Catherine
We had never been to this area before, after staying in this delightful cottage as our base we will definitely be visiting again. The cottage was perfect with a great view across the valley. Lots of walking in the area and lovely places to visit. We very much enjoyed our stay.
Lovely property in a beautiful location. The owners were polite and helpful in giving advice on where to visit in the local area. The accommodation had everything needed for a great holiday. The kitchen was well equipped and the lounge was comfortable. The views were beautiful from both the lounge and the bedroom. It was a pain having to use the bathroom which was downstairs when you are in the bedroom which is upstairs. It did state this in the 'blurb', but I had clearly missed it. Overall, a great accommodation.
Andrew
Thank you so much for a lovely stay at Valley View. It really is a special little cottage and epic location. Wonderful to be able to sit up in bed and see miles of countryside off into the distance. Lovely peaceful fields to listen to the birds. Fantastic public footpaths right next to the property with adjacent ancient woods. Thanks again.
Carole
We liked the cottage ,and the area so much we've booked again
We had the most wonderful holiday while staying at Valley View. The view down the valley was beautiful and at night I could hear a Tawny Owl! The bedding and equipment was all of lovely quality, the cottage was spotless and the owners were really friendly and approachable. We did a lot of walking and sightseeing in the local area. Would definitely recommend it. We would love to go back at some point, perhaps in autumn for the views of the changing tree colours.
Joanna
Second stay at valley view. The cottage is a perfect getaway. Everything is well maintained and beautiful surroundings. Owners are lovely and welcoming and you feel perfectly at home. Looking forward to next time. Thankyou!
Valley View was very clean, comfortable well equipped and furnished to a high standard. The bed was very comfy and the shower was excellent. The location was very quiet, peaceful, with wonderful views down into the valley and a great spot for exploring the area. The owners were very friendly and we even got to see the alpacas being sheared, having their nails clipped and teeth checked! Thank you for the welcoming pack it was very much appreciated.
Sharon
Just returned from a weeks stay at Edge Hill Farm staying in Valley View Cottage. The cottage was very clean, comfortable, furnished to a high standard, spacious and well equipped. The shower room was excellent. There are lovely views down into the valley from the bedroom windows and the bed was very comfortable. It was lovely to sit out the front of the cottage, relaxing and listening to all the birds, watching the sheep and alpacas, and saying hello to the owners dogs when they were around. The cottage is in a secluded area with stunning views all around, very scenic, quiet, peaceful and relaxing with plenty of walks nearby. Its great location makes it easy to visit many places such as, Ross on Wye, Goodrich Castle, Symonds Yat RockWye Valley, Forest of Dean, Monmouth etc. Enjoyed chatting with the owners, thank you so much for the welcome pack of local ale, cider, crisps, teacoffee bags and milk, much appreciated. We throughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely recommend to friends and family. Tip If you drive up Sharman Pitch approx 34 mile, turn FIRST LEFT drive approx 200 yrds , and you will see a 5 bar gate entrance to the farm, in front of you.
Supermooi huisje, alles netjes en schoon Prachtige omgeving . Eigenaar was erg aardig en behulpzaam. Hij gaf leuke tips over de omgeving .
Andrew
I have stayed at this property or the adjoining property five times so far and will definitely return. The views are beautiful and every morning I am woken by the dawn chorus amazing! Ross is one of my favourite places to visit and has a great feel to it.
Helena
We had a great holiday. The owners and their daughters were very welcoming and helpful. Nothing too much trouble for them. Dogs were so friendly, such characters. The countryside around the property is delightful with lovely walks and lots of wildlife. If you spot eggs for sale at the end of properties in the local lanes, buy them. They are so fresh and delicious and much cheaper than the shops. Thank you also to the owners for the gift of Butty Bach, Weston's cider and local crisps. Certainly great introduction to local produce which we've bought to take home with us.
Lovely cottage in beautiful surrounding. Owners very welcoming and friendly. Lots to do in the local area. Will definitely be returning.
Joanna
We had a fantastic week in this gem of a cottage. It is close to lots of places but feels a million miles away. The cottage was clean, well maintained and had everything you need, a real home away from home. Mr and Mrs Mitchell are friendly and helpful and the alpacas, sheep and dogs were an added bonus. We are already tempted to rebook for our next time off as we enjoyed ourselves so much. Thankyou!
Abhijit
We had a pleasant stay at Valley View last week. Paul and Edwina have created a very comfortable space in an old cowshed. They have decorated and appointed it to a very high standard. We had long conversations with Paul but unfortunately weren't able to meet Edwina. Monty and Hector their dogs also kept us entertained. Their alpacas and sheep are also lovely. We had great lunches at various pubs from Hereford to Walford and would particularly recommend Wellington Inn near British Camp and The Mill Race at Walford very close to Howle Hill. Do not rely on your car GPS to get you here, you will reach Edge Hill Farm accurately with What 3 Words. Road from Coughton via Sharman Pitch going up Howle Hill is slightly wider and in good condition, therefore easier for a first time visitor. Thank you Paul and Edwina for the milk, coffee, teabags, crisps, local cider and ale, much appreciated.
Goronwy
Very clean, comfortable and well appointed cottage. The property owners made our stay at Valley View very enjoyable and relaxing and nothing was too much trouble
We had a lovely week. We know the weather at the end of Feb is unpredictable but we enjoyed a 'change of scenery', local visits and a relaxing week in a warm, comfortable cottage. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Directions to the cottage were quite vague, we had to phone the owners late Sat afternoon for directions. Some key 'pointers' would have helped ie some signs to look out for rather than the broadgeneral directions given.
We've just returned from a week's stay at Valley View, which was very enjoyable. We were made to feel very welcome and found the accomodation comfortable, warm, clean and relaxing everything we wanted. The cottage is well appointed and in a great location, particularly because there are so many lovely local walks on footpaths, bridleways and quiet rural lanes that run right from the doorway. The autumn colours in the surrounding woods were stunning. Paul gave us lots of useful information which helped, including where we could see the local zebra! It was very special to be able to watch the alpacas and sheep in the paddocks right outside the cottage too. To celebrate a special occasion, we also followed Paul's recommendation to eat at The Moody Cow, where we had a wonderful meal. The Hen and Dot cafe nearby, was a great place for coffee and cake too. Thank you Paul and Edwina we hope to return to Valley View again in the future.
Andrew
This was my third trip to The farm twice at Valley View and once at Howle Hideaway and will definitely return in future. Love the area so much to see and do. Feel like Ross is a second home!
Gerald
We had a wonderful stay at Valley View, the cottage was all we could wish for, spotless, comfortable and the view was spectacular. Mr & Mrs Mitchell were delightful hosts and supplied plenty of local information. I would highly recommend this holiday.
Very quiet and peaceful. The owners are very helpful. Good area to explore the region. The property has everything and was cool in the hot weather. Will certainly return , this being our 3rd visit.
We have just arrived home this afternoon after a fantastic week staying in your lovely cottage. Firstly, we want to say Thank you for a great time. Cottage was beautiful, clean, comfortable and so peaceful. Your Daughters were also lovely. They invited us to help feed and shower the Alpacas last night which was so so lovely. Maybe a couple of ideas for the cottage A guest book where people can write comments about their stay, any recommendations of things or places, inc pubs etc, they have been to and would recommend or vice versa. A step going into the front door maybe as I slipped stepping out of the door one evening, this being due to knee replacement. A ramp or tape where there is a small step in the kitchen as even though we knew it was there Graham did trip couple times. We will definitely be back, bringing a stand up paddle board for Graham and a fold up chair for me!! Thank you so so much. Love Helen & Graham. X Ps we hope you had a fabulous holiday.
Lovely cosy cottage, great location and very helpful and friendly owners living nearby.
This was my second visit this year and as i said the first time, i could not recommend the place highly enough. Lovely place, lovely people i will definitely be coming back.
Stuart

Friendly and helpful owners who leant us very handy walking maps. Alpacas greeted us every morning. Wonderful relaxing break. Would definitely return again. Thanks Paul and Edwina.
The property was more than i could have hoped for, quiet location, very clean, all mod cons, lovely owners. Would highly recommend.
Really enjoyed our stay at Valley View near Ross on Wye. Cottage was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. In the heart of the countryside with excellent views and also very well situated for the Forest of Dean Owner was very friendly and helpful and provided a nice welcome pack.
Stuart
Lovely, cosy and well equipped accommodation in a super peaceful location with stunning views. The owners are so welcoming and friendly. A great base to explore the beautiful Wye Valley.
Charlotte
Excellent base for exploring the Forest of Dean the cottage was very clean & comfortable, and had everything we needed. Our hosts were very welcoming, and we enjoyed meeting the alpacas and the dogs. Great local pub recommendations too. Better directions to the property in our joining instructions would have been welcome I suggest you check with the owners, or use What3Words we arrived in daylight, but I expect other people struggle....
Really lovely cottage, with everything needed available. Only downside was spirol staircase, however did not detract from our stay in any way.
**Stephanie
We had a lovely week at Valley View. The house was very comfortable, warm, clean and well equipped. We packed lots into our week away but equally enjoyed our enforced day in with Storm Eunice. Thank you to the owners who made sure we were well equipped during the power cut! We would recommend the house very highly and wouldnt hesitate to return.
Lovely position, a very well equipped property, hope to return
Had an excellent week in this cottage. It was spotless and all extra Covid precautions observed. The owners were very pleasant and at hand if ever needed. Would recommend and hopefully will stop again ourselves. The location was very peaceful and had lovely views over the countryside.

Howard
So glad we found Howle Hill Farm for a week break. We stayed in Valley View and it couldn't of been better, spotlessly clean, very well equipped with everything you could need, eco friendly, full washing facilities and just so comfy. The hosts Edwina and Paul were fantastic, really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. An array of animals, mad friendly dogs, sheep and alpacas which we were privileged to watch and help in their yearly shearing. The views are stunning and just what you could need for peace and quiet. We will definitely be returning.
Great location with caring owners, the ideal place for peace and quiet.
Georgina
