The Tithe Barn Reviews

Philippa
Ten of us spanning four generations stayed for 3 nights at this unusual and cosy property. The housekeeper contacted us on the morning of our arrival to let us know that we could arrive early if we wanted to, and she was kind enough to phone and try to help us with the heating, which was very difficult to get just right. The bathrooms and bedrooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The rooms with double beds in were spacious and nicely decorated, with some lovely views. The smallest twin bedroom only had a bedside table at the end of one of the beds, with no space for our bags and bits and pieces, which we had to store outside in the corridor. Some shelving in the shared bathroom would have meant we could have stored our toiletries somewhere. The cot mattress was stained, and one of the bathroom blinds was mouldy. Additionally the high chair straps were dirty and one of the cushion covers was stained. The kitchen had plenty of crockery and cutlery and the dining table was huge great for playing games on after dinner. The fridges werent very clean and had cracked plastic drawers and door inserts, so we had to clean the hem before use and couldnt easily store milk cartons upright. The CD player in the lounge was covered in dust and didnt work. Despite some of the fixtures and fittings being tired and in need of repair a deep clean, we did enjoy our stay. There is so much to see in the local area and there are walks right from the house. We particularly enjoyed Raby Castle, and Barnard Castle was far larger than we expected. There was plenty of parking for four cars.

What an amazing stay with the family for a week over Christmas! Everything about the house and area was clearly explained beforehand through Sykes emails and a lovely chat I had with the housekeeper, Irene, on the run up to our stay. The house was even better than the pictures suggested and is fully equipped and beautifully renovated. We were a party of 9 adults with 2 small dogs and had plenty of space to relax. The underfloor heating in the lounge diner made the heart of the house so toasty warm which was great after returning from either a walk to the Morrit Arms about a mile down the road or the river walks for which the footpath to then start right outside the property. We also went further afield to explore Barnard Castle, Richmond and even visited Tan Hill Inn for a lunch one day followed by a scenic drive in the dales. It was a truly memorable stay and a highlight of our year. Thanks so much to the Tithe Barn team!
We really enjoyed staying at the Tythe Barn for our long weekend birthday celebrations with friends. Its very rural location was a bonus for us, but it may not suit everyone. The property for us was generally warm and had a friendly feel, albeit that for 5 adult couples it generally felt a bit of a squash in areas such as kitchen and smaller bedrooms. It is just about adequately equipped and the outdoor utility shed was extremely handy as a drying room. We would certainly go back to the property when we return to Teesdale

A great stay, thank you! We had everything we needed!
A fantastic property with everything we needed for a great break away. We loved the semi rural location and there was so much to do, all within a short drive. A short walk from the house would take you to a fantastic river which our boys spent hours exploring. Beds were comfy, plenty of bathrooms and the water was lovely and hot, and powerful showers too. Kitchen well stocked with great appliances, and a super dining table with room for all of us. A huge shout out to the housekeeper Irene, who was so helpful and understanding when we had a slight health situation with my nephew. Your compassion and understanding is hugely appreciated. We will most definitely be back.

We had a fantastic 2night stay at The Tithe Barn! The property is spacious, beautifully restored, and full of character. The living area with the woodburning stove was perfect for relaxing, and the wellequipped kitchen made cooking easy. All the bedrooms were comfortable, and having multiple ensuites was a huge plus. The private courtyard was a lovely spot to unwind, complete with outdoor furniture and a BBQ which we really enjoyed. Plenty of easy offroad parking made arrival and day trips stressfree. A peaceful, wellequipped countryside retreatperfect for families or groups. Highly recommend!
Jennifer
The Barn was ideal for our family get together including for the two younger children . The views were magnificent and there were many walks in the area. It was great to have 4 bathrooms as there were 10 of us . Bedrooms were clean with fresh linen and towels. A great place for a weeks break .
Andrew

Michael
We have stayed here multiple times. Fantastic place to stay, has everyrhing we needed for a very comfortable stay.
Had a fantastic 3 nights at this delightful house with family 8 adults, 2 babies and not forgetting the dogs. Plenty of room, clean & warm and really can't fault it. Irene housekeeper called to make sure we had everything we needed. Would return and not hesitate to recommend.
It was our 60th Anniversary and we wanted a place to commemorate it, and this was the ideal place. We had 9 people to be accommodated and the barn did this. It was warm and comfortable, All the facilities were spot on. We were able to cook our meals in an oven or a microwave, and the dish washer made cleaning the plates and bowls easy. The sleeping accommodation was brilliant, every room had a bath or shower and the beds gave all of us a good nights sleep. The sitting room had 3 large comfortable sofas all facing a television. I am disabled and unable to have a bath so I use a shower, the bedroom we were in only had a shower, but it was not disabled friendly, perhaps it could have a fixed chair and a rail to hold onto when a person stands up. Another small fixture would be some shelves, we had acceseries with no place to put them, especially in the bath room. Other than these small fixtures everything else diserved ten stars. Thank you for making our Diamond Anniversary so wonderful.
Michael
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tithe Barn. Clean, tidy and very spacious as described, perfect for my celebration with my family. Although weather wasnt great over the weekend, the underfloor heating in lounge was lovely to come home to after visits to various activities. The only thing we felt missing which we have found useful in others Sykes properties over the years was one or two board games to keep the kids & adults entertained and off their phones. Certainly not a criticism simply a suggestion as we couldshould have brought our own but bringing everything but the kitchen sink it was quite simply an oversight on our part. Final point all family members were able to have there own room and were suitably impressed by how large and well laid out it was, a tasteful barn conversion.
Steven
Absolutely lovely little place for a group to share and have a laugh. Well furnished, perfect big table for meal and games. Scenery was fantastic.
Victoria
Had a fantastic long weekend with the family, all 10 of us for my Mums surprise 70th. The place was well kitted out, loads of space and in the most beautiful area!! Help was on hand if needed, a lovely phonecall from the housekeeper told us all we needed to use the underfloor heating! Highly recommend coming here!
