The Cow Barn Reviews

Duncan
Fantastic property, all as per the listing, if not better. We had a brilliant weekend and all of us have said that we'll be back with families and or for a repeat.
Elizabeth
This property is in a wonderful quiet location, lovely view, many walks from the door and a safe stream for children to play in nearby. Youlgreave is a delightful village with good places to eat and the church is full of interest. The property is spacious and maintained to a high standard.
Victoria
We had a fantastic few days at the cottage with family. Very cosy, comfortable and clean and with everything youd need. The log fire and underfloor heating made it feel luxurious. We especially appreciated the treats and essentials left for in the kitchen thank you so much. The living space was larger than it appears on the photos. Would definitely recommend.
The Cow Barn was exactly as described. Set in farmland with easy access to country walks from the front door. The property was very warm and we had no need to light the wood burner! The owner's had left us everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. Would highly recommend this property.
Great place to stay, nice and cosy when it's cold outside.
A wonderful property for a family meet up and so many walks straight from the door in a lovely part of the Peak District. Friendly and helpful owners. Couldnt fault it in any way Julie
Christine

Brenda
Our stay at the Cow Barn was perfect from start to finish. It was more than comfortable for five adults and two small children, and bigger than we'd expected. I've never stayed in a holiday let that was so well provided for! An extremely pretty area, and we managed to fit in the short walk to the wild swimming spot in Youlgreave and enjoy a dip! We'd definitely stay here again.
Rajesh
It was good property and we had good stay will recomend others to go for it
Really lovely house the barn has been beautifully converted and furnished, and is well equipped. The setting is absolutely gorgeous the long drive to the house wound through fields full of buttercups, and the view of hills at the back of the house is beautiful. One of the best holiday cottages I have eevr stayed in highly recommended.
Katherine
Very comfortable and well appointed property in a beautiful part of the world. Could be difficult to find in the dark but the owner's directions were easy to follow although it would help if the length of the drive up the farm track was also mentioned. Would definitely recommend and return.
Joanna
A fabulous cottage set in an idyllic location close to Bakewell, Chatsworth and the Peak District. A very well maintained cottage with a homely feel. The kitchen is well equipped and is laid out to make cooking a social activity. The welcome pack of goodies was appreciated. The track to the property was not an issue, even in a small car like my mini. We wish we had booked to stay for longer!
We felt the property was a little cluttered with furniture restricting space. Well provided for but needed oven gloves. We would have liked to have been warned about the difficulty gaining access to the property due to the unforeseen weather conditions. Lovely to have been left some basic provisions a very nice touch.
Rachel
Beauiful place to stay with amazinging views in a really quiet place. The only slight anxiety for some in our group was the access road, which is a track with a lot of potholes and a slightly eroded place next to the river. Plenty of room to drive through for a CSV but a larger van might struggle owing to the rock escarpment next to the erosion. Also, a low car would need to go slowly. Townies used to tarmac!
Beautiful cottage, clean and exceptionally well equipped. Friendly and very welcoming owner.
Douglas
Lovely cottage, friendly helpful owners, beautiful countryside, very quiet, thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Jeremy
The location of the property is great down a gated lane but walkable to the village pub etc in 1520 mins. The little extras that the owners left for us when we arrived were lovely and started our stay off ideally. The owner met us lives next door and was very friendly and helpful with general info comms prior to arrival were great also. The property itself is finished to a high standard. There is plenty of crockery, cutlery and glassware and a large fridge and large freezer. The oven and hob are OK a bit slow maybe. Maybe too much furniture in some rooms. Nice private patio behind the property with an amazing view. Silence ! Probably the only thing we would wish improved is to have more than 1 shower we were 7 people. Plenty of hot water for lots of people though. Thanks for a great stay in a your lovely home great location to explore the Peaks.
Staying in this beautiful cottage gave us the opportunity to experience a slice of idyllic life in a beautiful English countryside minus the farm work p. The views from the back of the cottage are absolutely stunning. We were lucky with the weather so managed to enjoy many meals outside in the back garden against a spectacular landscape of rolling hills, green fields, trees and grazing cows. The cottage is very well equipped perhaps with a touch too much furniture and there is even a hairdryer provided in every room. The somewhat small exterior belies the bright and spacious interior. The owners, Tony and Belinda live next door and left us some goodies including milk, eggs and a bottle of wine. The only relative downside is the long and very narrow access road to the cottage. We very much enjoyed our stay and the cottage is in a great location for visiting neighbouring attractions in the Peak District. Thank you to Tony and Belinda.
We had a lovely stay for my mums 70 th birthday . . the cottage was exceptional in every way.. plenty of space too as we had three children .the cottage is traditional but has modern bathrooms and appliances ..the decor is lovely and there are some beautiful tapestrys which decorate the walls .. we had beautiful weather during our stay .. which really made it special ..!.. if this is an example of a Sykes cottage we wouldnt hesitate to book again !
Superb cottage, fantastic location. beautiful views.
Alistair
Superb cottage, host and location just a short lovely walk from Youlgreave. A fantastic week.
Claire
The Cow Barn is a fantastic venue for our family gathering. It's the third time we've been. It is clean, comfortable and well equipped. The setting is beautiful. It was lovely to arrive to vases full of fresh daffodils! Another lovely break for the family to remember. Thankyou.
Superb property in a beautiful setting. Very comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing break. Very well situated for Bakewell, Chatsworth, Haddon hall and of course the peak district. I will definitely stay her again
The Cow Barn is a lovely rental property in a beautiful rural location. There was a very generous welcome pack on arrival and the property itself is very tidy and has a nice homely feel about it. All the bedrooms are a good size. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Elisabeth
Really high spec cottage in a quiet rural location with lots of walks directly from the cottage yet still close to Bakewell. Tony made us feel really welcome and provided some lovely treats on arrival. The cottage is beautiful and has everything you need. Location is perfect if you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle. Lots of wildlife around the cottage. Just a perfect cottage in a wonderful location.
The property was very clean with comfortable beds in a rural setting. We were kindly provided with a lovely jubilee hamper with fresh milk and eggs, which was greatly appreciated. We stayed with our children and grandchildren. The house was spacious with multiple rooms, but it would be worth noting that the garden is not secure particularly when staying with younger children. We had a lovely stay thank you so much.
Our stay was superb we thoroughly enjoyed the area and the house Lots of places to visit. One consider with property was that the dinner knives were very blunt and the last day the hot water didnt get hot for showers etc. Otherwise we were so happy with our stay and would re visit soon. Thank you
The owners kindly accommodated us with a very last minute booking. The Cow Barn was everything we could have wanted. Beautiful views, clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you could possibly need. Definitely 5 stars and we cannot wait to come back in the future.
Claire
A lovely place to gather the family. Great welcome pack. We enjoyed the fresh eggs especially. A very relaxed break. Would highly recommend.
Debbie
Cottage was toasty warm on arrival through storm Eunice! Flowers and welcome treats to greet us. Well equipped kitchen. A beautiful setting. Owners directions for last mile or so better than satnav. Amazing bath! Thank you f it r a lovely break
Alison
The Cow Barn is a lovely place. The owners were really helpful with suggestions of places to go. We celebrated my partners birthday and they left a bottle of wine and a balloon. There were lots of little touches that made our weekend very special. We would highly recommend staying here and would definitely be back again.
Hannah
We had such a fab stay, the house was really nicely renovated, had everything we needed and lots of thoughtful extras, was really warm and clean, and check in was really straightforward. The area is beautiful with loads to do. We will definitely be back!
This is a really well maintained and presented property and the owners were really friendly and helpful, yet left us to holiday and to enjoy our break. Comfy beds, decent linen, hot water galore and nice towels. Small basics but all good. The property is well stocked with local info, books and music to enjoy. Great TV and a well functioning kitchen with all the kit you would need. There is a small outside space which we would have made more of with sunnier weather. This overlooks some fab views across the valley below. Access is via a private track through two gates. The instructions do make this clear and when you first arrive it can feel an unusual way to arrive at a property. However, it also made it feel really secure and private and we loved that. The setting is rural and you are very close to farms and we enjoyed the farm animals in nearby fields and the wildlife in the area in particular the birds of prey hunting in the valley and the geese from the local lake. Load of great walks you can do direct from the property and easy access into Youlgreave for pubsfood and basic shops. And only a short drive to Bakewell and Chatsworth. We were a group of six two couples and two single friends and it was perfect for us for our annual catch up.
Jennifer
Lovely barn conversion in a beautiful part of the countryside. Loved the walks from the door and surrounding areas. Enjoyed Chatsworth, Bakewell and Buxton, and sitting out in the evening and enjoying the view. Very peaceful and a welcome break for us all. Cottage renovated to a high standard and lots of lovely extra touches to welcome you. Many thanks!
We had a lovely holiday in a very clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage in a beautiful location. Slight negatives were that the access to the cottage via the track is downplayed in the description and the condition of the first part of the track next to the river was a bit of a shock as it feels like youre driving along a country path, we got used to it though and it became part of the adventure! The buzz from the hot tub next door was a bit irritating and the tub should be better screened off from the barn. Didnt spoil our holiday and we had a great time
The details of this property do not accurately identify the fact that the access track which is about 34 mile long has many deep pot holes which could damage the suspension or wheels of a car.
High quality accommodation, very well equipped. 2 ground floor rooms well suited for elderly guests. Road access requires opening and closing of 2 gates. Lovely location, would revisit.
Lesley
The location is superb down a track surrounded by beautiful rural scenes, wildlife and a farm. Locals are trying to get post code changed as it will lead arrivals astray using sat navs. It HAS to be approached from the centre of Youlgreave. Spacious property well presented and clean. Very well equipped kitchen but no spare cupboard space for food. Easy to get round that though with boxes and bags. Lovely paved patio and furniture with great views. No photos of that which nearly made me not book. Outside space important in summer. Only negative of the whole week was the buzzing of next doors hot tub. Comfy bedding and we parked 5 cars easily. Three decent pubs in Youlgreave which is about a 15 minute walk uphill. We ate in The Bulls Head to varied reviews. Good beers in both Bulls Head and George. The other pub seemed to have fewer opening hours? Theres a small Spar shop, a cake shop and further near the Bulls Head a gem of a bakery called Peak Feast which has outside seating. It serves coffee, cakes and has a hot snack menu. Highly recommend the Homity Pie. We walked to Druids Inn in Birchover and to the Lathkil Hotel in Over Haddon. Both well worth a visit for food, drink and views. Both high up so youll earn the calories! The local walking routes from the doorstep are superb, best weve done, varied terrain. We would love to rebook. Helpful owner near by.
Nicola
We had an amazing time at The Cow Barn. On arrival there was milk, eggs, wine, sweets, tea, coffee and sugar. The kitchen is very well equipped although not much room for storing food supplies but a bit of cupboard juggling and we made room. All the bedrooms are done to a high standard and the beds were so comfy we all slept really well. The cottage is well situated for a lot of the local attractions and many walks can be done from there. Despite it feeling pleasantly remote you are only a 1520 minute walk into Youlgreave were there are 3 pubs, we ate in 2 and both served very good food. The cottage is also very well equipped for children with high chair, travel cot, books and board games. There are also lots of DVD's and books provided. We will definitely be back.
