Ratty's Retreat Reviews

Lovely rustic building with awesome view of field and sky. Friendly cockerels and owner. Popular with anglers. Perfect location to explore coast and countryside. A hidden gem. Have driven past it many times.
Olde worlde type of accomadation, but more than adequate for our needs. My wife is wheelchair bound and because all one level suitable for her situation. Any other wheelchair user will need to take ramps, toilet raised seat and grab handle for the toilet. The shower is not suitable for wheelchair users but Skegness Leisure Centre has a wheelchair friendly shower at a minimum cost. Steve and Jill the owners are very helpful and friendly and loved our German Shepherd Brandi in fact she did not want to leave. If in the area again would certainly return. Fred and Janet Winder
This was my second visit & I enjoyed it just as much as the first. Owners are so friendly and helpful. Lovely peaceful location & a great base for exploring the surrounding area. Ideal for a solo traveller who just wants a bit of peace and quiet.
Ratty Retreat is in such a beautiful & tranquil setting. The owners, Steve & Jill, are amazing, so friendly and helpful & always working to keep the groundslake in top condition. Theres such an array of different trees and shrubs which attracts various birds and wildlife always something different to see plus the evening sunsets were stunning. This was our second trip to Rattys and it certainly didnt disappoint we loved it so much that weve booked again.
A cosy and comfortable cottage. Lovely spot with countryside views.
Robert
The cottage was spacious and warm. It was lovely to have the geese and hens visit. We even had freshly laid eggs. Steve and Jill were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It made the stay very relaxing. The car could be easily parked off the road and very convenient for the kitchen door. The location of the cottage is very good for visiting the Lincolnshire Wolds.
Had a lovely stay at rattys retreat owners very friendly, they leave you to enjoy your holiday but are on hand if you need anything. The cottage is very comfortable and homely, and had everything we needed, shower is very good. Has parking right near the door, and has your own outdoor space to sit and enjoy the sun. Garden not totally enclosed, if your dog likes to run off!! The cottage is dog friendly and the owners allow you to walk your dog around their fishing lake for a little walk to see their donkeys, they have chickens running around which are funny to watch and is lovely to see, and also a lovely friendly dog, which our dog got on with, although is usually a little snappy with other dogs! Skegness with the seal sanctuary, fantasy island and butlins, gunby house, snipedales country park, Woodhall spa with kinema in the woods, Boston stump and guild hall are all near to visit, with spilsby having a few local shops with fish and chips and take always and a vets. Only minus is their internet is not great, but used my phone, as signal was ok.
A little piece of paradise in my favourite part of the country. Absolutely loved it here. Spacious accommodation & lovely evening walks round the lakes to see the donkeys. Handy for my favourite haunts of Gunby Hall & East Kirkby, plus the Heavy horse centre and the picturesque & peaceful chapel at Monksthorpe, which were both minutes away. The owners were lovely & really sociable. Oscar the dog was lovely natured and would often visit me for belly rubs. Even the crazy chickens came over to greet me the moment I arrived! I've stayed in some nice Sykes cottages, but this has been the best so far.
Had a lovely peaceful stay. Beautiful weather and felt safe there. The donkeys are adorable and soon came to a rustling bag. Loved feeding the chickens who were so cute when they came running for a bit of food. Oscar the spaniel was daft as a brush and coped well with our maniac jack russell terror. Calm and quiet, nice facilities. Brilliant shower and bed was comfy. Good sized bath sheets provided too! Steve and Jill were both so nice.
Verdun
What a fantastic and relaxing place and our hosts Steve and Jill are so friendly and can't do enough for you. Back again in July, so looking forward to it.
A wonderful, calm rural location. Owners couldn't be more friendly and helpful. If you want all the mod cons it's probably not for you but if you like the joys of a proper countryside break with added fishing lake outside the front door, it absolutely is. Proper chill. We loved it.
Everything was fine,
Rosemary
The owners Steven and Jill were welcoming and always ready to help. The cottage was really cozy and warm. The views were lovely and we really enjoyed seeing the donkeys and the hens greeted us every morning. It was a good spot for visiting either the coast or west to Lincoln. We visited Gunby Hall, a National Trust property, which was on our doorstep and would recommend it.
Christine
We liked the cottage very much, the owners were very nice & there when we needed them, broken microwave replaced immediately. If you have mobility issues, the lounge seating is low, also there's no light switch for the corridor between the lounge & the kitchen until you get to the kitchen, rather dark. As previously stated, the area around the cottage is not secure for dogs. But we would definitely recommend & return.
The cottage is lovely and comfortable and so relaxing and the owners very welcoming and friendly. Would recommend it for anyone just needing a break away from everything. The only thing we would say is that as a dog owner it would be nice just to have a proper fenced off area at the back that a dog can't get out of , especially when the hens and chickens are about.
Property does not have a secure enclosed garden. Dog could not have free use of garden and chickens ran free. We had a fantastic stay but dog was afraid of chickens and had to be attached to a washing line to go out on back garden. Both Steve and Tracey were very friendly, excellent hosts and there to help if needed. Real dog lovers. Oscar their dog, was always there to greet us when we returned each day.
Steve & Jill, our hosts, were very welcoming, friendly and kind. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Rattys is a lovely bungalow style property. Rooms are very well equipped, spacious and airy. The grounds of the property are very tranquil with a variety of trees, plants and shrubs. The fishing lake is very well stocked and the fish we caught are in excellent condition. Rattys retreat is a little gem set in very beautiful surroundings. Loved it so much weve booked for a return trip next year.
Philip
Jill and Steve were great hosts, always there if needed. We really enjoyed our stay and the beautiful surroundings. Very dog friendly.
This was a quick last minute booking as we had just received bad news about my partners health and we needed time on our own to absorb it. .. what a lovely place especially the walk around the wee lake and seeing the donkeys! The owners are sooooo lovely, kind and caring, could not have asked for better! Just wished we would have been able to stay longer!
Louise
A magical week for my pup and I, felt right at home, safe and the hosts are so lovely and attentive. The chickens and donkeys are great and walks around the lake on doorstep. Would definitely recommend to others and would stay again.
Graham
