Old Stable Reviews

Despite the wet and windy weather, we had a wonderful time at the Old Stable. We were a party of seven aging friends, meeting up together from across the country. The accommodation is outstanding and met our every need comfortable living area we spent a lot of time there, excellent bedrooms and en suites and the kitchen was extremely well equipped. The very generous hamper was much appreciated. All in all a delightful place to while away the hours and keep out of the rain! Thank you Helen and Mark for thinking of everything.
This property wowed us from the minute we pulled through the gates. Stunning location and the house was perfect for our busy mums girly getaway. Furnished to such a high classy standard it felt like luxury. Absolutely everything we needed and more inside the house. The owners were so lovely and helpful. Cant recommend this beautiful property enough. Thank you .
Pamela
We stayed at the Old Stable for a week with our three daughters & husbandsboyfriend and two babies and it was perfect! Helen was so helpful and kind in preparing for our arrival. Accommodation was beautiful, spotless and the kitchen had absolutely everything we could have needed and more for all meals to be prepared to feed eight adults. So many little details and extra bits which made our stay so nice and easy. A gorgeous place to hang out together inside and out given the great weather we had for our week. Couldnt have found a better place and would highly recommend!
The Old Stable is a beautiful house with everything you need for a meet up or celebration with friends or family. We loved the renovation and style of the property you can see so much thought has gone into it. The hot tub was a hit with my 7 year old granddaughter we went in on the last day of our holiday and she said it was the best day of her life. The house is well equipped but I wish I could have obtained more information before we came about what was there. I had to enquire of Sykes about coffee making facilities which took sometime to find out how to get in touch as my booking page on their Web site wasn't any use. I eventually got to do a text chat but that was after several attempts to make contact. As an order person I would prefer yo speak to a human! I only got the owners contact details on the day we were travelling there it would have been easier to ask question of them directly before coming. I'm not impressed with Sykes as a company with regards to easy of communication but very happy with The Old Stsble as a place to stay. I also can't understand the pricing structure as next ear for the same period is 208 cheaper. I have emailed Sykes about this but again their communication leaves a lot to be desired! I'm not sure what they did for their 70 admin fee!!!! Wouldn't book via Sykes ever again but would go back to The Old Stable.
Lorraine
Perfect in every way. Fantastic house, we loved celebrating our friends birthday here. The house had everything we needed. The owners were lovely and helpful when needed. Would definitely recommend!
Really lovely cottage in a great location with beautiful views and attentive, helpful hosts.
Bethany
I stayed here with 7 friends for my 30th birthday, the place was just as expected, spotless warm and welcoming! We had a lovely weekend and felt very cosy and relaxed, the beds were very comfortable and the house had everything we needed! Would definitely stay again and would definitely recommend! Thank you
This property is a real gem and is finished to such a high standard. The open plan living and kitchen area is large and comfortable. The kitchen is one of the most well equipped we have come across, the huge double fridge is a real bonus. The beds are really comfy, and the ensuite bathrooms are great. The hot tub is spotless, over the years we have had issues with cleanliness and chemical levels in the hot tubs, but this one was perfect. Overall the whole house was absolutely spotless, there wasn't a single thing that looked tired or in need of replacing, the 5 star rating is well earned. We asked the host Helen if there were any nice local walks. She gave us options and directions which were really useful, we walked along Birkrigg onto Trigg point and the 360 views were fantastic. We also ventured into Ulverston to 'The Farmers' for sunday lunch, which was amazing. Overall this property ticked all the boxes for us, we had a brilliant weekend and would definitely return.
Lovely property in an ideal location. Owners go above and beyond.
Eileen
A beautiful place with everything you need on hand. Hot tub was lovely and was well used every night. The only downside was the wake up by the near by building work but everything else was perfect.
Richard
Were just back from a lovely week at the old stable. The house was spotless and had plenty of space for the 7 of us, and is packed with everything you could need, from the incredibly well equipped kitchen, to ensuites and smart tvs in all bedrooms. Helen and Mark were great hosts, ensuring we were settled in and answered any queries we had. The location is about a 10 min drive from Ulverston with plenty of shops there to stock up or just wander around. The beach is walkable about 1015 mins away, via a public footpath through the field up the road. Overall a fantastic break.
Excellent high quality holiday home with lots of lovely touches. Lovely location, with lots to see and do. A lovely base for exploring the lakes
The accommodation was great, very spacious, finish was lovely and the whole place was very well equipped especially in the kitchen. We did feel that 4pm check in was a bit late given check out was 10am and would have liked to be able to check in at 3pm which is usual for this type of place. Would definitely return to the accommodation.
Jessica
The property is absolutely stunning & we'll definitely return. Wish wed stayed longer.
Pradhyot

Came for a girls weekend away, house was amazing! Everyone commented on how fabulous it was. The house was immaculate everything you needed was there, nice touch that there was books and a cupboard full of games. Will definitely book again!
This property is amazing perfect location into anything you might want to sight see in the Lakes but also has everything you could ever need right in the cottage that you dont want to leave. We especially loved that every room had its own bathroom & the open plan living kitchen area which was perfect for hosting. Thanks so much for a great stay & keeping in touch to make sure everything was running smooth!
My nursing friends & I stayed for the weekend, it was absolutely fabulous. Really lovely house, warm & modern with really good facilities. The owner thought of everything, a basket of goodies for us, the fire was on when we arrived & a very well equipped kitchen. Couldn't recommend it enough for people to go & stay & explore the area.
What an absolutely amazing house. We loved our stay and will definitely be booking again. It was so clean and tidy and had everything we needed for a fantastic week away.
I don't know where to begin with this, but this house exceeded all expectations and believe me when I say they were high to begin with. We stayed here over Christmas and it was so nicely decorated that we felt right at home and didn't feel like we were away from home for Christmas. We had everything that we could possibly have needed and Helen checked in with us a day after arrival to check all was ok and that we had everything we needed. Nothing is too far away in the car and it is really quite nice to be set away from the business of everything else. Thank you so much for such a memorable stay!
A gorgeous property, immaculately presented, very good communication from owner. It was a perfect stay for 8 of us on our annual Christmas cottage weekend. It was decorated very tastefully for Christmas which was lovely. Would definitely return.
We had an amazing 3 days at the property. The house was clean, warm and was decorated to a high standard, even had fresh flowers. Instructions were clear and parking good. Beds were comfy and showers hot and powerful. We used the hot tub everyday and everything outside was clean with a good level of maintenance we highly recommend.
We booked the accommodation to celebrate a special birthday, it was brilliant, the facilities were first class, everything was immaculate and a fully equipped kitchen etc, Helen and Mark couldn't do enough to make sure we had an amazing time.
Dianne
An absolutely beautiful cottage with high spec furniture and fittings. Very comfortable beds and excellent bathrooms. The setting and location was perfect. We had a very enjoyable stay. The lovely owners are on hand to give any help required. We would highly recommend this cottage.
Natalie
We booked this lovely house for a hen party group of 7 girls and it did not disappoint. The house is fabulous, spotless and well equipped. The owners were lovely great communication throughout! We did lots of activities nearby we enjoyed a lovely walk down the beach, a spa day and firework display at the swan hotel and spa, a lovely roast dinner at the famers baycliff and we had a private chef for the Saturday evening real food chefs. It was a great weekend away, would recommend D
Wonderful Stay at Old Stable Highly Recommended! We had an incredible stay at Old Stable, just outside Ulverston. The accommodation is modern yet cozy, with high ceilings, exposed beams, and underfloor heating throughout. The bedrooms are all ensuite with smart TVs, and the beds were so comfortable that I slept perfectly every night something I rarely experience away from home! The fully equipped kitchen had everything we needed, and the welcome basket filled with treats was a lovely touch. The private hot tub was perfect for relaxing in the evenings, and the ample parking male things easy for groups. Communication with the owners was excellent, and we couldnt have asked for a better experience. If you're looking for a peaceful, comfortable getaway in the South Lakes, Old Stable is a fantastic choice!
Amanda
What an amazing place to stay! The Stables it outstanding and the reviews were spot on. Fab location not too far from anywhere near but still quiet and surrounded by great countryside. The attention to detail for it being a 'home' is just great. It is extremely spacious and fitted our families needs perfectly. The WiFi was great throughout the house. The house is lovely and warm and we had the fire on but not for heat just because it was beautiful. There is everything you could ever need in the house. Beds are so comfy and everything has that luxurious touch. Plenty of games which we loved and played. Helen and Mark are really lovely and so welcoming. Best welcome pack we have ever had and great to open cupboards and you find salt, pepper etc. There is a hot tub and bbq but we never used them. Definitely have a visit to The Farmers in Baycliff, delicious meal with brilliant staff. Great to have indepth instructions for the appliances etc. We will definitely be back. Honestly one of the best homes we have stayed in!
An amazing stay at the Old Stable for a girls weekend away. What a stunning home, such a beautiful place, built and decorated to the highest standard in a lovely setting. The Old Stable was equipped with literally everything needed and all the little finishing touches such as towels, toiletries, kitchen essentials and a welcome hamper were an added bonus. The old stable is in a fab location, we had a stroll down the road and along the beach to a local pub, The Farmers Baycliff were we had a few drinks and some lovely food then we got a taxi ride back. Lots of fun was had, relaxing in the beautiful home, chilling in the hot tub & catching up with friends. Thank you to Helen and Mark for being such fab hosts also, great communication and being on hand if we needed anything at all. We would definitely recommend and would love to come back again sometime!
Beautiful accommodation with everything you could possibly need with the exception of sun sadly Immaculately clean in all areas. Made full use of the hot tub even in the rain, which was great. The local roads were quiet which made them ideal for cycling, There were 10 of us between the two accommodations on site . Our only comment would be that although the Stable and Cottage are on the same site to get from one to the other you have to walk a short way on the main road. We all had a lovely week and would definitely return.
Rebecca
We just had the most amazing week away staying at The Old Stable. The property was the most beautiful house we have ever seen. Mark and Helen were wonderful, we had a beautiful gift basket on arrival, they could not do enough for us including fitting a stairgate last minute and bringing round a football goal from their own garden for the kids to play with. The house is perfect for families, with plenty of space, enclosed garden and indoor and outdoor games to use. We will 100 be returning!!
Myself and 7 friends stayed for the weekend for my birthday and had the best time ! The location and house itself was beautiful, Helen and Mark were lovely hosts and were very helpful if we needed anything. Absolutely perfect stay, couldnt have asked for anything better, Thank you both!!
Mohamed

Would highly recommend visiting The Old Stable if you are ever visiting Cumbria or the Lake District! Big shout out to Helen and Mark who were very helpful throughout our stay. Excellent communication and responsive. Thank you again!
Stayed at the old stable for a girly weekend away, location was perfect, the house was unbelievable and Helen was so lovely. A beautiful property, we had a fantastic short stay at the old stable. The owners were there on hand should we have needed anything. We visited with children from 11 months 8 years everything was safe and clean. The house had all little cupboard extras in should you have forgotten anything. We would definitely highly recommend anyone to visit the old stable. Thank you, well hopefully see you in the near future!

Elisabeth
We read the reviews but thought It sounds amazing but probably wont be quite as wonderful as that. We were wrong. It was even better! EVERYTHING was as folk said simply FABULOUS. Wonderfully furnished with such lovely comfy, sink into sofas and with equally comfortable, padded dining chairs you could sit on all morning. The beds, SO very comfortable and the whole house a perfect temperature with the ground source heating and with no nasty drafts. There was a beautiful vase of roses real! and a basket of goodies to greet us on arrival PLUS a bottle of bubbly in the fridge! Mark and Helen the owners are delightful and so helpful. The weather was not too good for our 3 night stay, having timed it perfectly to coincide with a deep depression, but we were very cosy and with games in the drawers and a large screen Smart TV HDMI cable provided plus TVs in every bedroom, all of which worked perfectly. We even tried the hot tub in the strong NW wind and it was bliss. Everything anyone needs to know is in the How to folder which was on the table and we can thoroughly recommend the first pub we tried the Farmers Arms just 1.5 miles away which serves fantastic food at very reasonable prices. We werent there long enough to try any others. Last thing to say is dont do what I did and hunt for a kettle. The kitchen has the very latest in hobs and modern appliances with a massive fridge PLUS the tap on the sink has an amazing device which dispenses boiling water, instantly! If youve never seen one, the instructions are in the folder on the table and, if I can do it, anyone can! We shall be back.
Danyal
