Milltown House Reviews

Had a great 5 day stay at milltown house over new year. Family of 4 with 2 kids. Spacious and clean and very cosy with the log fire. Hot tub was ideal and although the cottage is remote Turiff is a short 10 minute drive should you need any essential's. Our family loved it, especially our kids enjoying sitting in the snug area playing games. Overall fantastic break away and already looking at coming back next year.
Great wee place in quiet destination. Good position for exploring other areas. Lovely cottage with all amenities you could need. Hot tub was fantastic for aches and pains.

This is the 4th time at Milltown House. It is a very quiet and relaxing holiday, when arrived there was a bottle of wine and biscuits from the owner, this is a lovely touch. We had a bonus of having a jacuzzi next to our cottage which we took full advantage of and were in it everyday.

Amazing place will definitely visit again
Great place to stay! Large estate with plenty space. Nice and quite! And a perfect Whirlpool with a beautifull view!
Catherine
The perfect staycation! Theres so much space for a family of four. The weather was abasing which meant we were able to use all the outside spaces. The hot tub was the highlight, watching the sunset every evening. The house was well equipped for a weeks holiday. The decor is so fitting to the property. We loved every aspect of Milltown house!
Central heating turned extremely low. Forced to buy logs just to keep warm.
We enjoyed our time there very much and getting to know a part of Scotland I hadn't really known before. Hopefully we can get back some day and explore the region more fully. It was also nice to meet the owner and have a wee chat plus watching the swallows coming and going to their nests. Cheers
Lovely cottage, great location and lots to do and see in the area. Well equipped and plenty of space with large, comfortable settees. The hot tub is a great addition. Friendly and helpful hosts.

Well what can I say apart from love being in that cottage especially at Christmas time its our 4 th time in their the only thing was just cost alot to buy logs didn't realise how much probably spent 200 just in logs but haho should of just got one massive bag but anyway the only thing is leaving the cottage behind just love stopping hear and I will keep coming back only thing I could say is some new pots and pans I had yo buy a bigger pan just because other not so big but that's just nip picking so that's it for another year but I'll BE BACK

Really wonderful stay in the property, the pictures dont do it justice. Although Without the fire it was very cold in the main rooms and wasnt as clean as it could have been with old hair and cobwebsspiders all over the place. Had a really great time though and am recommending it to others.
We had a great week but found 18 a bit chilly in the evenings . . prob because we live in the south of England and its warmer here .. a lovely peaceful and comfortable place to stay and very well equipped throughout Sue Warner

Four adults. First impression Quaint. Facilities everything you needed for your stay . Lovely quiet location to chill and relax . Plenty of places to visit We found Peterhead prison, Fraserburgh Lighthouse and Fyvie Castle really interesting, we also got to see the dolphins at the lighthouse . On the downside externally the grounds dont look maintained there are weeds around the house and the foliage around the cottage has overtaken the front of the house , takes away the beauty of the cottage , guttering is full of debris and when we had a heavy downpour the kitchen was flooded came in through the back door . Sky light in the kitchen is cracked and water dripped through on to the table . Smoke alarms are not in working order , some light bulbs do not work and have not been replaced . The building facing the cottage which is named The Pub was not fit for purpose as per the pictures table tennis and pool which we was looking forward to using it had birds in there and every where was full of bird poop, so we could not use it not fit for purpose we did mention this to the owner and he swept it but you could not use it as there was still poop everywhere .Cleaning needs attention to detail all light sockets were dirty on top, bathroom taps were grimy around the base , the kitchen sink was dirty just needed a bit of elbow grease to clean . Some of the glasses which were once a set of four have not been replaced for example only three wine glasses . There were leaflets available for sight seeing suggestions but it would be nice to see a sightseeing recommendation book , the visitors book was full so unable to leave our feedback . Lastly we met the owners briefly on our way out one day seemed very nice , downside was we phoned them twice to discuss a couple of issues our calls were not returned a bit disappointing. Overall the cottage is in a good location just needs some TLC .
Really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it was cosy, comfortable and homely. Loved the hot tub. Jamie and Mimi called to make sure everything was ok, no complaints from us at all. We will be back, possibly with friends and book the Orangery and Milltown House together.
Beautiful rustic converted farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. No problems with the hot water as has been mentioned in some of the older reviews.
Rachael
The photos don't do it justice. It's light and spacious. Well maintained and clean. The owners are lovely and are just ever a call away.
Judith
We had a lovely stay at Milltown House I dont understand the negative review. Jamie, the owner, was available if there was a problem.Hot water for the shower was plentiful. We enjoyed the wood burning fire, the hot tub and the games room.Very comfortable beds.Lovely area to explore.
Although the cottage is located in a beautiful setting the outside area was shabby and lacking table and chairs as shown in the listing, inside the property whilst the Kitchen was well equipped and the bed clean and extremely comfortable the overall cleanliness was poor ie dead flies and insects under towel rail in bedroom and washbasin pedestal filthy and grime all around taps. Our biggest gripe would be the lack of hot water for showering Luke warm at its best and only one person could shower before it ran cold. The central heating was non existent in the lounge and Kitchen due to radiators failing to get hot although they worked well in the hall and bedroom.we were having to light the wood burner every day to be able to enjoy a comfortable evening this was an added cost as logs were chargeable. Overall we enjoyed our time there. With some TLC and maintenance carried out it could have been delightful. We would like to have at least come across the owners at some point during our stay. Once at home we read other reviews and it would appear that the heating and hot water situation has been brought up several times before and not been resolved.
Quiet, spacious barn with good outside space. Location is good for exploring both the nearby coast and countryside. The property could do with a bit of updating and tlc and the location of the freezer and washing machine is not user friendly. We also had issues with the hot water which was only just hot enough for one shower. The bedrooms were cosy and the beds very comfortable. In summary we enjoyed exploring the area but would not return to this property.
Well I would just like to say that this is our second time at mill town house so that for starters the first time we came was in August 2018 ish and then it was the best place we had ever stayed at just in the sense that its what we wanted it had everything we wanted so we decided this time we would have a whole 2 weeks over the Christmas and New year period and again it did not fale to give us what we wanted piece and quite after a long year working many hours I've come back home feeling ready to rock and roll again the owner Jamie is one top bloke and and always will to get ya all you need so YES I definitely recommend milltown house . The only things that samed different was that the hot water for the shower not last to long but probably easerly sorted and just one more thing is as a lover of cooking when we first stopped hear their was any amount of stuff in the kitchen to use but this time it all sames to have disappeared but thats just miner details and has not stopped me booking my next stop hear can't wait
Had a great week and would definitely be booking again relaxed for the week log ... Had a great week and would definitely be booking again relaxed for the week log burner was great as well as the log burning hot tub
Love this place . Beds super comfy. Not to far from some spectacular day trips. Scottish coast is stunning. !!! Location superb .
Firstly a great location and a very nice and quirky ! place to stay, and would recommend. Great enclosed courtyard for the dog and for us to sit out in, and the games room pool & ping pong were great. Useful forest track nearby to take dog out in morning and evening. We did enjoy our stay. Very close to the coast. However, get a feeling that this place is a wee bit tired with some minor issues. The wetroom had no place to put towels or toiletries, and there was no toilet roll holder though it looks like there was one before it doesn't quite match the photo. Heating was great, but hot water only just hot enough for shower with it on max especially in such a big room. Kitchen was well equipped cooker looked new, but a couple of baking trays would have been useful. Wood burning stove was a bit dodgy, but useable, as door won't lock closed we use one at home, so we are familiar with them this was reported to the owner. However plenty of wood. Some light bulbs were out and missing in some places which made living room a bit dark as plants outside windows were covering them. Internet was intermittent e.g. all our devices reported Connected, but no Internet several times during the week, though I suspect that is more the rural location ended up using quite a bit of 4G mobile data. The games room was really a good and welcome addition and a place to chill in the evenings, but could have done with more lighting and more than one decent pool cue and some chalk !, but it was fun, as was the ping pong. I wish more places had something like that. Overall, though, not bad at all and recommended !
Milltown house provided a rustic, warm and cosy Scottish holiday. We loved the cottage, it was well stocked and the owners were very welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend
The accommodation was perfect, the location particularly how rural it was was perfect. We loved the hot tub and the wood burning stove, the owner and the caretaker sorry if that's the wrong title we're lovely and really helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

The first 5 days we had no WiFi, on the 2nd day we realised that the hot tub was not working and has only worked correctly on one occasion since we have been here, very disappointed as paid a premium due to having a hot tub,

Turriff and Aberdeenshire really is the most wonderful area to explore, you have everything within reasonable travelling distance, but you do need your own transport. There are beaches, forests, castles, distilleries, you name it we have it. This property was as lovely as it looks and a great place to chill out. Jamie, who owns it, plus his own farm and glamping units was a great host, totally recommend it. We will certainly book it again.
Had a lovely relaxing time walking and swimming locally and soothing our joints in the hot tub afterwards. The Property is so comfy and homely but clean and well looked after and Jamie the owner is friendly, chatty and really helpful. We will be back!!

We had a lovely weeks visit up to Milltown House from 24th to 31st of October 2020. The cottage is exactly what I was expecting quirky, cosy and welcoming. There is a wood burner to keep you warm in the evenings, which I Greg thoroughly enjoyed lighting and stoking each night who needs a tele! There was a fantastic Hot Tub which our wee boy loved, even if the two adults didn't quite get to relax in it, it was a much appreciated bonus to the property. The beds were comfy, and the absolute silence from being so remote was well needed. The Cottage is situated in a brilliant Rural area, with access to local villagestowns with plenty of outdoorsy things to do. We went up to Banff and MacDuff, as well as down to Haddo House Country Park near Methlick, the latter of which is stunning with a great park for kids. Also nearby is Turriff, where we would nip to for bits and bobs at the local Tesco. We had dinner in Turriff a couple of nights and would highly recommend The Rustic Grill, it was probably the best meal my partner and I have ever had. If you fancy a chippy, we would recommend Dolphin Fish and Chips in MacDuff, again in our top 3 chip shops ever visited. Jamie, the owner, is delightful and couldn't do more to make his guests feel at home. My parents visited us and stayed at his wigwams which are lovely too. The only comment I would leave for improvement is attention to detail in the cleanliness the house overall was clean, but there was thick dust in some places and the ping pong table needed sorting out. Overall, a lovely visit and we would definitely come back and probably book out his adjacent cottage The Orangery too!!
Samantha
Absolutely stunning wee cottage, so full of character and charm. Really clean and comfortable. Jamie is really nice and cant do enough and was really friendly. The location is just stunning and so peaceful and quite. Would not only recommend to everyone but we have already booked again for summer!
A perfect, peaceful and full of charactor & charm. Milltown House is excellently located for exploring the numerous castles and coastline. Many great walks along the coast and so many places to explore. The owner Jamie came over to see us both the day after we arrived and towards the latter end to ensure all was ok and passed on some very good knowledge of the area. A very likeable and great host. The house has an external 'games room' with a ping pong table which we had some laughs playing. Some lovely evenings in the cosy lounge with the wood burner or in the hot tub under the stars. Would definately recommend the accommodation, the location and always good to have faith in the owner.
A lovely peaceful comfortable cottage so close to nature as it backs on to some forest and also arable land , walks from the door and then if we wanted to travel it was not far to the north and east coasts of Aberdeenshire . So much to see inland too. Great cottage , everything you would need. As warm as you want it , spacious , clean and tidy. Jamie The owner was very helpful and checked we were ok and left us to it really . Would definitely recommend and we will be back .
Malcolm
Fantastic location fantastic hot tub fantastic host Jamie 10 out of 10 on beaches.
The cottage was lovely and characterful, forming one side of an enclosed courtyard formed by traditional stone former farm buildings. The owner Jamie was very welcoming and helpful despite being busy running his farm, we really enjoyed the tour he gave us of his farm and glamping site. The hot tub and barbeque outside and wood burning stove inside were all welcome and well used. The wider area is largely agricultural and not particularly touristic but charming for that. There are good walks directly from the cottage and further afield. The cottage is well located for visiting the spectacular north east coast Crovie, Pennan and Portsoy a number of nearby castles and gardens and Speyside.
Michelle
A gorgeous homely cottage with an owner that goes beyond, will definitely be back!
