The Stables Reviews

This property was perfect for what we were looking for. The open plan layout works really well for a group. The welcome pack was a lovely touch.
Rochelle
This property exceeded all expectations! We stayed here with friends 2 families with younger children for Christmas , and it was absolutely perfect for everyone. From the moment we arrived, everything was spotless, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully set up for comfort. The space was stylish, welcoming, and had everything needed for a perfect stay. It was decorated with a beautiful Christmas tree, which added such a warm, festive touch and made the holiday feel extra special. The location was exceptional, convenient, safe, and perfectly situated with beautiful views that truly elevated the experience. It struck the ideal balance of being close to everything while still feeling peaceful and relaxing. The hostmanagement was outstanding, friendly, responsive, and genuinely attentive to every detail, making the entire experience seamless and stressfree. The holiday company checked in twice with us to check everything was okay. We couldnt have asked for a better place to spend Christmas together. This is truly a 5 property, and we would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing place.
The cottage exceeded our expectations. It was large enough to be comfortable for 8 adults, well equipped and cosy. It was in a great location and the welcome pack was very gratefully received. We loved it.
Carolyn
This is an absolutely stunning house! Stylish, modern and well thought through, it has a definite 'WOW' factor! Lovely location with outside decking over rolling hills, it has 2 separate accommodation wings either side of the main living spaces and kitchen. Beautiful house, light and airy with comfy beds, it was perfect for my big birthday celebration with friends. We had a brief chat about whether there was anything that could be improved on and all my party could come up with which really tells you just how great this house is, was a few more coffee cups and some hooks for the bedroom doors. All in all, a really outstanding house! Many thanks to the owners!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Stables. The property is in a beautiful location and has all that you need for a great holiday. It is clean, modern and well equipped. We loved the little extras like the welcome pack full of delicious local produce and the cleaning pack. Our only small issue was that the ceiling lights, although attractive, were not very bright in the dining area and kitchen. Im sure this would not be an issue in the summer but on dark October evenings extra lighting would have been helpful. Overall a fabulous property which we would happily recommend.
Lovely accommodation. We went with a friends and it was perfectly set out to let each family have their own space. Bedrooms sufficiently far from the communal areas so not to wake kids. Really lovely stay, great location. 3 points to improve it 1.Somewhere to store bins so we didnt have to go to the main farm. 2. I requested a cot toddler pack which didnt arrrive. 3. My Friends found the beds very soft. I didnt.
Rachel
It is unbearable in hot weather no blinds or shutters on roof windows and just huge amounts of glass without shades. Owners haven't even bothered to provide a parasol for the patio. Shame. Could have been a lovely big space for a great family holiday. As it is, there's just a printed sign saying we recommend you open the windows when you are in the house so they have clearly had previous complaints. It is probably great for a holiday outside of the summer.
Charles
Property totally lived up to expectations and was ideal for our 3 generational family. Also we loved the location and outlook and very very comfortable both internally and externally when the weather was nice enough to sit outside! Was well equipped with plenty of storage and living space and the layout was ideal particularly the bedrooms format. And easy driving distance to both Lyme Bay itself and other local places of interest.
Jolene
We had a very enjoyable stay. The barn was so spacious and worked brilliantly for our large group.
We had the best weekend for my mums birthday, would love to stay again would highly recommend staying here!
Philip
Excellent, roomy house in a great location. Thank you for the Christmas tree! Just one hopefully helpful suggestion. Though there are two bins indoors for recycling and general waste I was advised to put everything in the green wheelie bin outside. Shouldn't there be two outside bins to separate the waste?
More cutlery would be helpful and a 4 slice toaster, other than that was a fantastic property
A family holiday 18th August, one week parents, children, grandchildren. We loved it as soon as we arrived and settled in instantly. A nice, thoughtful welcome pack. Friendly hosts John and Jacky. All we had to do was get on with enjoying ourselves. Good location for Charmouth beach, Beer town, Seaton Tramway and, of course Lyme Regis. We all enjoyed a proper holiday.
Caroline
Loved it here. The house is beautiful and very spacious and well equipped, we have no hesitation in booking again. The walk down into Lyme Regis is beautiful along the River Lym and an easy walk down. Lyme Regis is a lovely seaside town and the whole coastline is beautiful. We loved it and highly recommend.
Patricia
We all enjoyed our stay at The Stables It was comfortable, clean and the location was great. A small handrail leading down the steps to the bedrooms would be good and also a handrail leading down the main steps to the property which are really a little hazardous for older people and children looking back on previous comments I can see this has been highlighted before and that it was being addressed so apart from those problems everything was great Would definitely book again
Beautiful stay! Loved the little gift bag with local goodies thank you so much. We all had a lovely time with some of our party already looking to rebook.
Lesley
Extremely good accommodation on every level except the entry to the house. The steps have no handrail and the majority of the concrete slabs down each side are loose.
We were very pleased with the property. It was well equipped, spacious and well located. The countryside and coast are beautiful. We have two major concerns. Firstly, noisy pointing was being carried out on an external wall during our stay. This was intrusive and started early in the morning and on one occasion before 8am! We should have been forewarned of this. The owner has been very cavalier and does not take responsibility and has made no attempt to compensate for this. Secondly, after our stay, the owner, fully backed by Sykes, accused us of breaking a bar stool and damaging a coffee table. This was simply untrue. While we accept these were slightly damaged, they were in that state when we arrived. To our dismay Sykes, on behalf of the owner, have charged a good housekeeping bond of 250. We feel this is most unjust. Any attempts by us to reach a mutually acceptable outcome have been rejected by Sykes Cottages and the owner. This experience has left a very bitter taste on what would have otherwise been an enjoyable holiday. Unless we get recompense, we shall never use or recommend Lime Bay Holidays or Sykes Cottages same company
Claire
Lovely clean and spacious property for group or large family holidays
Lesley
The steps down into the cottage are very steep and could do with a handrail as ... The steps down into the cottage are very steep and could do with a handrail as there are a number of loose slabs but other than that it is perfect,
Verity
What a beautiful property! We really enjoyed our stay! Comfortable, clean and in a beautiful location!
The property is lovely. Our issue is with the mattress in the larger double bedroom with the jack and Jill onsuite. The springs are completely gone and its really not as it should be for the cost of the rental. Also as others have said to strip all of the bed linen is not a usual process and seems lazy on your behalf given the cost iof the rental. Without these isssues it would be 5 star not 4 !
Graham
It was an excellent property with all the things you could think of to enjoy your stay . It certainly lived up to our expectations.
Amanda
The Stables was a great place for a group of 8 of us to stay for a long weekend and celebrate a birthday. Extremely well finished and well furnished, great kitchen and bathrooms. Our only comments were that we needed more than 1 stool, to be able to sit around the breakfast bar, and maybe two more chairs for the dining table. It was a squeeze to sit 4 adults on each bench. Also some kind of covered area on the decking would be great. The mat by the glass door was not very secure, it kept riding up and became a trip hazard. We were also surprised to see we were asked to strip all the beds before we left too. OK after lockdown, but a but cheeky now Other than these minor points, we had a fantastic stay and would recommend. Thank you.
Excellent accommodation. Probably the best cottagevilla we have stayed in. So much space and a great play room for kids to have their own area. Kitchen had everything we needed and all the appliances worked well. Very enjoyable stay!
Nicola
We had a smashing time at the property, very spacious and had everything required our only feedback would be the addition of handrails particularly for on the steps down to the front door, and the internal stairs.
Maxine
Beautiful cottage and lovely setting
The Stables was a superb base for a great family holiday. The in laws are a little fragile but the stables was an ideal base. Very homely with everything we needed for our evening meals. Plenty to see and visit in this part of the country whatever your tastes are. I would highly recommend a stay here.
Fabulous open plan, light and airy accompdation. Great location for exploring East DevonDorset. We stayed with 2 under 4s and it was safe and spacious for them to run around with the added bonus of the highchair. The decking area was fab and we were lucky enough to sit out and enjoy the view. Very well equipped kitchen and it was great to have a utility to do some of our washing whilst we were away. The bathrooms were clean and spacious, as were the bedrooms We would have liked bathsheets as the towels were quite small, a small handrail to go down the stairs to the bedrooms would have helped and we found the mattress were too soft but overall it was a wonderful holiday and we really enjoyed the stay and we would definitely recommend. Thank you
Jenine
The house was fabulous. Great open living space, but also a smaller tvgameschill area just off the main room. The beds were really comfortable and the underfloor heating kept the place at an even temperature. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could need. The welcome pack on arrival was an unexpected treat. We were lucky enough to have good April weather and were able to sit out on the decking and appreciate the gorgeous view.
