The Cow Byre Reviews

We had the most brilliant weekend at Cow Byre, the accommodation was brilliant for a family of 5 and 2 grandparents. The separate bedrooms and bathrooms either side of the property made a great layout and the social areas downstairs kitchen and dining and the lounge area were perfect for family meals and for making memories. We visited lots of places close by and Cow Byre was the perfect base! Would highly recommend this property. It was also spotless and well equipped for everyones needs. Thank you for a great stay
Andrew
We had a lovely week here. Cow Byre had everything that we needed and plenty of space for everyone. Rosemary was very friendly and welcoming. Plenty of places to visit as long as you are prepared to travel a distance. Nearest supermarket is 22 minutes drive away. Great place if you want to retreat and relax.
Kathleen
This was our second visit to Cow Byre and we thoroughly enjoyed it as much as our first time. The proprietors are lovely and nothing is too much trouble and we would highly recommend it to all our friends and family.
Georgiana
We stayed with family and friends at this outstanding accommodation for two days to celebrate New Year's Eve. The property is fully equipped with everything you need for a break, from a hairdryer to an iron machine and many more. The kitchen was full of useful and beautiful utensils we had everything we needed. The person looking after the property, Rosemary is the kindest and most helpful person you can think of. The surroundings are full of peace and quietness. We visited Ludlow town centre and market and the Shropshire Hills which are called Mini Switzerland reflecting the outstanding beauty of nature. we would return back for a longer stay.
Lovely property in the perfect rural location.
Claire
We had a lovely stay. So relaxed, plenty of room for five of us and so peaceful.
Cow Byre was excellent everything was as described. Two things to note, location is very rural so be careful as the roads around the property are single track. Bedrooms have low ceilings especially the small single bedroom. Otherwise, lovely!!
We had an excellent Bank Holiday weekend at The Cow Byre. We have stayed in a lot of properties over the years and this is definitely one of the best in terms of facilities and comfort. We were particularly impressed with the kitchen and cooking facilities. Everything that you need for successful self catering for a large adult party was provided. This not always the case. Communication was excellent and we were offered early entry and late leaving as the property was free before and after. The location might not suit everyone in terms of the narrow lanes but we found it fine. All in all very satisfied.
The property was excellent with everything you need provided. We visited with my daughter, son in law and 7 year old granddaughter who had great fun with the hatch. The weather was fairly kind and we managed to get to some wonderful places, recommend Hampton Court Castle for the gardens. The property was very secluded and the access was via some country lanes which made life interesting on occasions. We would recommend this property and would happily revisit in the future.
We had a lovely family get together at the Cow Byre for a couple of days at the start of the stay and then we had the place to ourselves for the rest of the week. Rosemary and David were great and very helpful. The property is ideally situated for Ludlow, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock and Shrewsbury to name but a few, and has a few national Trust properties within easy reach. Upstairs is a pit restricted with the sloping ceilings but ok for a weeks holiday, but the downstairs is very spacious and flows perfectly for a family get together. Be careful of the narrow roads and pot holes as they can be a challenge. Lovely stay...thank you to Rosemary and David
Lovely barn renovated to a high standard in a wonderful location. We had a magical New Years celebration and would stay again. Thank you.
Really lovely property everything was exactly as advertised
Kathryn
Our second stay in this lovely property. Plenty of space for a family get together and everything we needed for cooking our family meal one evening. We enjoyed some walks and cycling around the local lanes. The hosts were very approachable and helpful. Highly recommended.
We had a great holiday at The Cow Byre. A very clean and comfortable cottage with great facilities. Downstairs was much larger than expected and don't think the photos do it justice. The kitchen was really well equipped, we cooked in every night. Upstairs you need to be careful not to bump your head! But very comfortable. The food left to welcome us was a lovely touch. A great base to explore locally, we visited Stokesay Castle, the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, The Severn Valley Railway, Ludlow Castle and the town a couple of times, Ludlow Farm Shop and Berrington Hall.
Armand
Very clean and comfortable, quiet area with a nice view, perfect place for relaxing
Angela
Lovely property everything you needed for family get together. We celebrated 60th birthday ample room for 6 adults and 2 children aged 7yrs and 4yrs. Very peaceful venue well situated for excellent views Some narrow lanes took some negotiation especially in heavy rain.
A lovely few days at the Cow Byre. It was perfect for our family of six adults and three children under five. The house is warm and spacious and the owners very helpful.Lovely countryside and Ludlow a short drive away.
Rebekah
Lovely place to stay, well equipped and great location, perfect for our little holiday! Couldn't have been more perfect!
Nicholas
We had a very comfortable stay and a warm welcome in this very well equipped, and well cared for cottage. Its in a very interesting part of the country which offers local history as well as good walks, theres lots to discover. We felt that David and Rosemary genuinely wanted us to be catered for and for us to enjoy our stay, but they were not at all intrusive, just helpful! We would certainly recommend both the property and the location.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Cow Byre it was the perfect sized holiday cottage for two families over Christmas. The cottage had everything we needed and is a really cute and comfortable and the owners were really helpful. The kids loved the fact they could crawl through in to each others rooms on Christmas Day. We had a lovely walk down the lane to Nordy Bank Hill Fort to top the week off.
Angela
We loved it. Beautiful renovation and plenty of room. The only couple things that could be improved are more t towels as there were 6 of us and only 2 t towels and one of the beds was essentially the thinnest mattress on the floor which was not very comfortable. Apart from that we absolutely loved the place and the feel of it.
Great place and hosts, would certainly recomend this place
We had a great time celebrating my dads 60th. The location was perfect for what we wanted and the accommodation more than met our expectations! We had 6 adults and 3 children and there was more than enough room for us all. Overall a lovely weekend and will definitely return
The property is absolutely lovely, had everything needed and was very very clean! ! I'm not sure if the 8th bed is suitable for an adult a short fold up mattress on the floor but we made it work. I'd reccomend staying at this property as its very well looked after and well equipped.
A lovely cottage and perfect for our needs as a group of 7 nurses on a reunion weekend! The facilities are adequate and kitchen utensils and pans large enough for big meals often inadequate in holiday rentals for this number!. Parking for 3 cars and easy access into Ludlow but very narrow lanes but dont let that put you off!
Kathryn
An excellent place to stay for our extended family get together. Good parking and a nice outdoor sitting area. A good sized kitchen and useful utility room with a large lounge for relaxing. As described, located in the countryside with information on local walks etc available, we also enjoyed cycling around the lanes.
The holiday was very good with first accommodation, very comfortable and quiet,no traffic noise, you could hear the birds! . Shame about the persistent emails from Sykes!.
The Cow Byre is a wonderful barn conversion in the middle of nowhere! So if you don't like rural don't choose to stay here... we loved it though! Really well equipped , exceptionally clean accommodation. The owners David and Rosemary are delightful and have created a fabulous place to stay. There was a lovely welcome pack of biscuits, crisps, pot of jam and a bottle of sparkling elderflower waiting for us plus a pint of milk in the fridge. Beds are really comfortable and plenty of towels provided. There are sloping ceilings with beams so watch your heads we bumped ours several times!! Lovely power showers although the only criticism I would have is that the glass shower screens on both of them are not big enough to stop water going all over the floor so you need to mop up the floor after showering. Ideal accommodation for 6 adults and one child single room not really suitable for an adult in my opinion. Building divided into two separate areas upstairs with two staircases so ideal for 4 people one side and 3 the other. No real space for hanging clothes in the smaller side and only one wardrobe in the larger side. Superbly quiet and with no street lights outside and blinds on the velux windows it was lovely and dark at night. Although very rural it was only 9 miles to Ludlow nearest town but it didn't take us long to get to other places within Shropshire roads very narrow and a bit of a challenge though before you get to any A roads. Overall it was a fabulous 5 night stay just wish we had had longer there. Would thoroughly recommend.
The cottage was great, nice and clean and spacious. The kitchen was well equipped and there was a generous welcome basket with lovely biscuits and other nice things. The smoke alarm battery went which was promptly replaced. Good selection of videos and games and walking books and maps. Lots of things to see locally and great walks.
A lovely clean cottage with plenty of share space. In a great location for walks and getting away from it all. Very friendly and helpful owners. A delightful stay.
Kathleen
The cow byre was wonderful and had everything you could ask for in a holiday cottage. The location was perfect to with ample parking for 2 cars. Rosemary the proprietor was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help us, a very nice lady. We will definitely be back here and would highly recommend it to anyone, we just wished we'd had longer here as we were only here for a weekend. Can't wait to come again Kathleen Wardle
Andreas
Its a lovely property in a beautiful location quite remote. I felt that the down stairs worked really well. Upstairs was equally comfortable. I think the bathshower would benefit with a bigger screen or curtain as the water went everywhere whilst having a shower. In some of the bedrooms it might be nice to have hanging space maybe more hooks or a hanging rail. These are very minor things and would make life a little easier. In terms of the style it was in all keeping with that type of property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner was very welcoming and easy to talk to and his dogs were lovely too and the highlight of the holiday for our boys!
Had a lovely family weekend here 7 adults. Beautiful cottage in a beautiful area. Lovely and clean and Rosemary was very helpful!
Krishna
A beautiful location and beautiful property. We booked this place for a reunion of close friends after multiple years apart, and couldn't have thought of a better place. Really appreciated the Ludlow specialities that were offered during our stay the biscuits went down a treat! The house is also modern and warm, and very clean. The peekaboo door was used a lot for pranks! Also well located with easy access to Ludlow town, and to some really nice hiking routes!
The location and the property were exactly what we thought we were getting, the roads can be a challenge, but to be expected! Rosemary providing updates before our arrival and allowing us to stay longer at the end of our stay, showed she has the upmost thought and care for her guests. We would highly recommend to others, and if the opportunity ever arises again, we would certainly go back.
Sophie
Amazing stay, beautiful lodge to a very high standard. Can tell a lot of effort has been put it to making it beautiful. Really nice surroundings will defiantly be back
Had a lovely stay with 8 adults for a birthday weekend. The barn was in great condition and had everything you need although another frying pan wouldn't go a miss!. It is a but in the middle of nowhere, so just a heads up! Great to have the fire and plenty of space. Only downside was the 8th bed, it might be suitable for a small child, but not okay for an adult. However, would love to stay again and will definitely recommend!
Pauline
Beautiful cottage ,clean ,comfortable, well equipped and plenty of room for our party of 6 adults and 2 children. The children especially loved finding the secret passage between 2 bedrooms ! Lovely welcome pack ,thank you. Our only suggestion would be to have outside lighting . With the arrival time of 4 p.m it was almost dark by then and satnavs sent us past the property ,if the Cow Byrne sign was lit up it would have helped a lot . Would certainly recommend to anyone and for once the photos dont do it justice ,it actually is bigger and better.
We loved this house. The setting is beautiful and quiet. The property was plenty big enough for 8 of us and has been sympathetically renovated to a high standard. Everything we needed was there towels, bedding, cutley and cooking equipment a plenty. It's a bit of a trek to Ludlow but close enough for a taxi ride and the location more than made up for this. We all said we'd return without a second thought. The owners were very friendly but not intrusive. 10 out of 10
