Is The Bull Pen Right For Your Group

Discover why this cottage is the one for your party or family reunion...

For Families
The Bull Pen is designed primarily for couples rather than families with children. The single bedroom sleeps two adults only. However, the large enclosed garden provides safe outdoor space for older children to play. The working farm setting offers educational interest with livestock nearby. The wood-fired hot tub is best supervised carefully if children visit.
Groups Will Love...
The wood-fired hot tub at The Bull Pen provides an authentic outdoor bathing experience. Unlike electric models, this traditional tub is heated by burning logs, creating atmosphere and warmth. It sits privately in the south-facing garden with views across working farmland. The tub holds two people comfortably and takes a few hours to heat properly.
Pet Friendly
Yes, The Bull Pen welcomes dogs to this barn conversion. The large south-facing garden is fully enclosed, providing safe space for pets to explore off-lead. Footpaths lead directly from the farm into surrounding countryside for longer walks. The working farm setting means livestock graze nearby, so dogs should be kept under control when outside the garden.

The Bull Pen Reviews

Nicole
This was our second stay at the Bull Pen and its still as lovely as ever. The accommodation is well thought out with most things you are going to need for a week stay. our two loonies of dogs absolutely loved the large enclosed garden and welcome treats and we enjoyed the wood fired hot tub and decking area and the lovely decor. The owners are absolutely delightful and incredibly helpful. The farm shop is definitely worth a visit on the Friday. We highly recommend the Bull Pen for a relaxed break away with a partner and will definitely book a break there again.
Excellent, beautiful property set in a beautiful location. The bull pen was beautifully presented, lovely, clean and cosy. Having a wood burner is a lovely idea, it creates an amazing ambience. There is a big windoed roof that lets you stare up into the night sky. The property is spacious and the kitchen well equipped with all the essentials and more. Thank you for the gifts on arrival and the lovely flowers. The property owners are very helpful, friendly and approachable. There is hot tub outside, we didn't use it but hot tub lovers would love it. If you have a dog, dogs, they would most likely love the property, there is lovely large garden. The little personal touches by the owners make it like a home from home. The purpose of my visit was to convaless, due to an injury, it is perfect for the peace, tranquility and quiet. There are some beautiful walks and the area. If you want to explore Cornwall, the bull pen is located in a good position to go exploring Cornwall. From a personal note thank you for helping us after the big storm. In summary The Bull Pen is beautiful cosy well equipped property, located in a tranquil position, great owners, great location. Thank you
An absolute Gem Kate and Will fantastically helpful and friendly

We had an absolutely glorious break at the bull pen. The hot tub is such a lovely addition, we spent most of the week in it. It takes a bit of work to get up to temp but once its there its heaven! We even spent some early mornings in there with a cuppa and watching the sunrise
What an outstanding stay ! The Bull Pen was immaculate, so cosy and welcoming The finishing touches were 5 star Loved every minute and it felt like a home from home. Kate and will the hosts couldnt do enough and make sure you visit their farm shop the produce is unreal We have had a superb stay, loved the huge enclosed garden for the dogs, just watch the steps down they can be slippy. Cant wait to return next year thank you for an amazing stay 5 star cottage, 5 star hosts 5 star comfort
The Bull Pen was absolutely superb. It was clean and comfortable and a perfect place to stay. I will definitely be back. The owner Kate was on hand if needed and very friendly.
Loved our stay. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The garden was huge, which out dogs absolutely loved. Nice welcome hamper, which was very much appreciated. Great stay in a lovely rural location.
Myself, my husband and our three dogs had high hopes when booking to stay at The Bull Pen but unfortunately, while a lot of effort has gone into little personal touches and trying to create a home away from home feel, our stay wasn't what we thought it would be when booking. The 2 main things that pushed us to book, were the enclosed garden and the hot tub. The fence blew down on our first evening, we notified the owner who was away and the fence then wasn't repaired until late Tuesday afternoon we arrived Friday so for majority of our stay, the garden wasn't enclosed and safe for our dogs. We feel that people should be made aware of the quite high and open steps down from the decking to the grass area that our dogs struggled with and one of our dogs hurt themselves on. The hot tub is a wood fired hot tub, and is actually damaged and has a substantial leak. We only found out about this on arrival to the property. The owner had messaged to say the tub was set up and to temp on Thursday evening, but by the time we went to get in on Saturday morning we had arrived late Friday the hot tub was completely bone dry and needed to be filled from scratch and then takes a number of hours to get to temp, so we gave up in the end, plus with the garden not being secure we couldn't of relaxed in the hot tub anyway as we were watching the dogs. The bedroom door doesn't stay shut, so we actually had to block the bedroom door from the inside when going to bed as the owner didnt want dogs on the bed. We also were a little disappointed that the owner didnt see us on her return as she had said on the initial message and throughout our stay there was no further communication and no one introduced themselves to us, as it would have been nice to have known who to speak to in person prior to us leaving the holiday early. Sadly although there are some positives to The Bull Pen, we wouldn't book again or recommend to others.
One of our favourite cottages we have stayed in. Our 2nd time here. Lovely big garden our 3 dogs enjoyed it very much. Was lovely seeing the cows pass the window. Its pretty central for visiting different places. Dont hesitate just book you wont be disappointed. Enjoyed some steak from the farm shop next door. Laura & Kev
We have just returned from a Sunday to Friday stay and wow! We have already been looking for next year! We have had the most wonderful stay. The cottage itself its just perfect it has everything and anything you could think of needing! Its spacious and clean and just exactly what you need after a busy day seeing the sights of beautiful Cornwall! The best part for us was the garden it is massive!! Our olde English bulldog Pablo has never been out of it the whole time rain or shine its secure so you can sit and enjoy the hot tub while they run about perfect! The location is ideal literally 2030 minutes from a lot of the main places you would like to see! Restaurants about 15 minutes away Polgooth in 1010 The Holmbush inn 1010 Had Sunday lunch and an evening meal and highly recommend. All completely dog friendly. Owner is available by text or call and gets back quickly we only needed once for logs but other than that you are left alone which is what we like! Cant wait to return x
Such a lovely farm, and the bull pen was fantastic and everything we hoped for.
Hollyann
Beautiful & cosy, we had an amazing stay at the Bull Pen
The cottage was very clean and well done up, the garden area was big and secure which was great to let the dogs roam around with no worries. In a ideal location with very little noise and was relaxing.
Lovely big secure garden for the dog. All essentials like washing up liquid, dish washer tablets etc provided. Some instructions for the electric hob would have been good as I have gas hob at home. The location is perfect for exploring as most places are 30 to 40 mins away if that. The welcoming dog treats, Prosecco and cake was a nice touch. Many thanks.

Lovely cottage which was clean, well kept and homely. Kate made us feel welcome and the prosecco and treats when we arrived were a nice touch. The garden is huge, and the decking area made for a great place to eat with great views across the Cornish countryside. And the steaks from the pop up farm shop were the best steaks Ive ever had! The location of the cottage is ideal for visiting most of Cornwall.
Rebecca
Fantastic stay at the Bullpen. Beautiful cottage with everything you need and more. Large garden for our dogs and lovely decking to sit out in the sun. The hot tub finished it off. It was a magical experience. Kate and family are the perfect hosts. We would highly recommend x
Charlene
5 from us! Myself and my husband brought our 3 big dogs for 5 nights, the garden was fully enclosed as described, but nowhere on the listing does it give you an idea of the size... it was huge!! It was like having our private enclosed field!! The dogs loved it they also loved the under floor heating which made trips to the beachwet walks a lot easier to wash them down because they dried really quickly! I can't fault kate and will, the service was brilliant, every question we had was answered within minutes, and everything we needed was done ridiculously quick! We bought some steak mid week, and then went back to buy lots more for the family back home, we explained we were travelling to Manchester which ended up being a 10 hour drive because of motorway issuesgood Friday travellers and dog wee stops! And Kate packaged up our meats with ice packs and they were still frozen when we got home! I would definitely recommend staying here, but also supporting the local farmers! The bull pen was immaculate, and there was so many little touches, we arrived to fresh flowers, dog treats, a bottle of prosecco and some human treats too! We didnt realise before we came that the hot tub was wood powered, it was so much nicer than the standard plug in ones!! We were in it every night and watching the sunset and the stars come out with the incredible views! We were very very impressed, so much so, on our 2nd night we were googling prices to come back later in the year!! We will definitely be returning! Thanks for the best mini break!!
Nicole
Absolutely brilliant property. The space was clean, tidy and well thought out. Everything you could need for a week away. The kitchen especially impressed us as it was well stocked with utensils and equipment. The hot tub was an amazing feature and located in a secluded place. The garden is bigger than expected and offers a large grass area that our dogs loved. Our hosts were friendly, helpful and mindful of our privacy which we appreciated. I highly recommend purchasing produce from their pop up store. Their steaks were the best Ive ever cooked. They have a pop up shop on Fridays. We will definitely be rebooking
We had a lovely mini break at The Bull Pen! It is a lovely cottage which is beautifully presented. The owners have carefully planned the finishing touches including the welcome gifts welcomed by all of us. The garden is a great size and was thoroughly enjoyed by our dog! It truly is enclosed many say they are but arent. It was a perfect base for long dog walks and pub lunches. At the end of each day, the log burner and hot tub were a lovely way to relax. Dont forget to order steaks from the owner they were delicious! Thank you.
Absolutely over the moon that we found this place! ! Beautiful cottage with everything that we needed for our stay. The dogs loved the underfloor heating and we loved the log burner and the hot tub! Its in a perfect location to visit so many placeswe didnt have time to do everything that we wanted to so we will be booking to come back again next year. Kate is a fantastic host, so friendly and attentive, the welcome gifts for us and the dogs were such a lovely touch, as were the fresh flowers. Cant recommend The Bull Pen highly enough
Dominique
Beautiful cottage, so cosy and comfortable. Great large enclosed garden and very quiet location, perfect for my reactive dog. The owners have done a great job and go out of their way to make the stay special, lovely welcome gifts, preheated the hot tub and the Christmas decorations were so nice! Great base for exploring, hope to come back
Lovely , enjoyable stay . But getting out of the shower was not a lot of room as my lady burnt her shoulder on the towel rail which was extremely hot which we know was in the book for the property but really should have a temperature control. The food in the farm shop was really tasty. We loved the flowers in the property plus doggy treats was really thoughtful and can't thankyou enough . Just a shame we couldn't use the hot tub due to the weather. Overall a big thankyou for a lovely stay and being so friendly too
Lovely cosy cottage , bed very comfortable I had the best sleep ever , ... Lovely cosy cottage , bed very comfortable I had the best sleep ever , log burner is perfect , Very quiet at night no noise whatsoever , would love to go again

Kate the host messaged us on the night before & told us the cottage was ready for early check in if we wanted to check in early. As we had other plans on the morning of arrival we arrived on time of planned check in. Kate kept in touch the entire time of our honeymoon stay, to ask how things were and if she and her family could be of assistance. We didnt quite understand the start up of the hot tub situation so we did ask Kate to pop round and show us how to get it started was very happy to & a brilliant tutorial demonstration of how to start the tub. We used it 3 times during our stay. The cottage was modern and well everything we could have needed and more. We enjoyed our honeymoon here with company of the dogs who too enjoyed every bit. We already plan to return! Thank you so much Kate & Family.
Tracie
We booked this cottage primarily for the enclosed garden, which was lovely but in your description you failed to mention the open steps to access it. Our dog doesn't do steps so was very disappointing and would NOT have booked it if we were fully informed. The steps were difficult for us too yet there was no mention of potential accessibility issues. There were no pictures of these steps when choosing cottage, only the 3 steps down to patio. That's down to Sykes not the owners. The cottage itself, I feel does not warrant outstanding 4.8 listing. BBQ was rusty, as was microwave and I would not use these to cook my food. Wooden chairs outside were worn and wood splintered. I have photos of these issues should clarification be required. In essence, a very disappointing week.
Anthony
Beautiful cottage and facilities. Welcome notes and gifts give you the best start to holiday. Pictures on website do not do garden area justice. The garden is enclosed and extremely pet friendly and large. Unfortunately we did not visit animals on farm but definitely will do next time.
Nichola
A lovely cottage nestled in the Cornwall countryside. Easy to get to main roads to get around, and close to lots of amazing walks. The hot tub was great after a long day out walking and the garden was perfect for our pooch to run around. The farm shop is a must beat steaks wed had in ages! Cannot wait to go back.
Beautiful cottage, very well equipped and comfortable home from home. Really helpful friendly hosts. Great location to explore Cornwall. Cant recommend it highly enough
This was our third time at the Bull Pen and we love it, plus its a great part of Cornwall.
This was a great little find, great location with everything you need to enjoy a well earned rest from the day to day hectic life we all live in these days. Host was lovely and friendly, nothing too much trouble.
The Bull Pen is an excellent cottage, situated in a quiet part of Cornwall, but only a couple of miles from the main roads so easy access to all the main towns and beaches. The cottage is clean and tidy, everything you need is there including a large garden for in our case the dogs to run around in and after a long day out you can relax in the the hot tub. The owner kate is their to greet you and as they live next door on a working farm, anything that you need, they are there to help. There pop up farm shop is a must or just contact Kate if you want anything from there, we ordered 2 x sirloin steaks and honestly they were the best steaks we've had, so good we ordered 6 x more to take home. We have stayed in many cottages all over the UK and this cottage is in our top two and the other one is in cornwall too. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone, you will enjoy your stay here like we and many others have. Thank you Kate & family.
Gillian
The Bull Pen is a lovely peaceful place to stay. Definitely recommend it. The owners made us feel very welcome. Its got everything you need in the accommodation. Its a narrow country lane no matter which way you leave to get to a main road but slow and steady youd be fine. Great for the dog safe enclosed gardens. Pick up essentials on route makes first day easier. Recommend for peaceful relaxing holiday we loved it.
Graham
Fabulous place to stay, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Kate the owner was super friendly and helpful from the start of the visit. One our musts, was a good dog friendly feel and they settled quickly as thought they were at home and the garden space was perfect to keep them both occupied. Trips to the local beaches were easy and trouble free. The facilities were perfect, Basically 'The Bull Pen' is a great place to stay in a perfect location. We will be returning.
Andrea
The host was very welcoming and nothing was too much. The cottage was warm, clean and comfortable and very quiet. Like home from home. Everything was perfect, we wished we could have stayed longer and will be going back.
Judith
Loved the Bull Pen, great place for peace and quiet and for seeing the sights of Cornwall. Ideal for our dog as I could let her in the enclosed grassed garden or walk the quiet lanes with her. The accommodation was well equipped, and very comfortable, lovely bed and soft fluffy towels. We visited in January and the property had underfloor heating which I kept turning off as the real fire warmed the building up brilliantly. Unfortunately we didn't sample the meats from the pop up farm shop as we were leaving the next day and carrying onto Devon for a few days otherwise from previous comments about the quality I would have taken some home.
Lindsay
Perfect for myself and my two little terrier girls. Dog proof garden easy parking lovely and warm plenty of hot water comfortable sofa lovely white thick towels and good quality bedding. Owners close if you need help but they keep their distance if not needed. Very quiet It was a perfect place to stay. I loved it
