The Barn Reviews

Beylan
The barn was a beautiful getaway for my friends and I. Joanne the host was lovely and informative and if we did ever need anything she was right next door. Would definitely recommend and come back again.
Yvonne
The Barn was everything and more that I could have wished for to celebrate my daughters 40th birthday. There was so much space in all the rooms and so well fitted with everything you need. The hot tub was a fabulous addition and the views were spectacular. Thank you.
Michael
Excellent large property. Suited the needs of a party of 12 and infant very very well
Seamus
We were a group of 11 adults, celebrating a 50th birthday and we could not have picked a better place. It was just perfect place for our large gathering. We found it well equipped and very clean. The pool table, table football and hot tub were in constant use every day and the open plan layout was ideal. We loved the location with it's wonderful views, and would definitely not think twice about booking again.
The Barn is an ideal property for a large family group to take a vacation. There are plenty of cooking utensils and cutlery, seating and facilities. The location is so picturesque, and the play area for the children is ideal, although it would have been helpful to have a gate at the end of the drive to offer a little more security and safety for the littluns. It's an ideal base for exploring this part of the country. I would definitely recommend to large groups.
Melanie
Fantastic setting and beautifully spacious house. Well equipped and comfortable. We would have liked there to be some sort of gate across the ramp from the terrace to the garden as, with dogs and small children, we couldn't leave doors open in the warm weather.
This is the perfect family getaway property if you don't mind driving the Devon lanes. It's huge much bigger than the photos suggest and it has plenty of space for coming together as a unit or finding a quiet space to recharge your batteries. The facilities onsite are brilliant the little playpark was well used by younger ones, the hot tub area provided the perfect cosy chill out space, the pool table was in constant use little niggle here was only one cue was straight enough to use, table football provided great competition between everyone, there was even a selection of toys and dvds. Our BBQ evening might have flowed a little better if there had been a bigger BBQ or even an extra one and we did find we had to wash a lot of the crockery before use, but definitely not a deal breaker! Tip if you want to use the Aga oven, allow hours for it to come up to temperature! Overall, this is the perfect property for a multi generational family holiday with attractions like Pecorama, the Donkey Santuary and the beautiful village of Beer being just over 15 minutes drive away. Definitely one to book again!
Rosemary
Great property for a family get together. Plenty to entertain all with wonderful views across the valley. Location Colyton rather than BeerSeaton far more accurate 'nearest' conurbation with excellent pub Kingfisher and Finns coffee shopdeli.
Lesley
Beautiful property, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The open plan layout worked perfectly for us 11 mature ladies and we enjoyed cooking on the Aga. The Hot Tub was also a hit. The owner was easy to communicate with, friendly and helpful with recommendations for good local food. We loved the quiet location with fabulous views, yet the coast was just 15 minutes away via some narrow country lanes. Would definitely recommend.
Beverley
Great cottage. Perfect for our needs. Pool table and hot tub was a winner.in the photos Sykes showed a shooting range which was not available . I understand why but should not have been advertised. The location was beautiful and with a party of 13 one would expect kids playing outside which wasnt a problem with the owner. She was very accommodating and went all out to make us feel comfortable. 10 out of 10 from us all. Thankyou so much.
Fabulous place to stay, it was an ideal property to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday with 14 people plus baby over 3 generations of our family. Really large property almost like a village hall! with all facilities you need for a family get together, set in stunning views across the valley. A 15 minute drive to popular places like Beer or Sidmouth, or there are plenty of walks from the farm.
WOW !!! That was everyone's reaction when we arrived. It was amazing and everything you could possibly need for a wonderful holiday. Age range of family was 1 year old to 65 year old and we all loved it. Even a few baby toys in lounge cupboard. Very well equipped kitchen and plenty of space for everyone to be comfy....Hot tub was a definite hit and was greatly enjoyed. Communication with the owner was brilliant. We hope to return one day and I can reccomend this beautiful property fully.
Amazing house! ! It's huge. Fabulous for our family get together. Loved cooking on the Aga. All rooms beautifully done with ensuites. Only niggle no hair dryers?
We had a great stay here. House is much bigger than it looks on photos. Clean and tidy.
Genuinely fabulous home. Plenty of space, beds so comfortable. Views are amazing. Gorgeous animals all around.
Justine
We stayed at the Barn for a long weekend to celebrate my husbands birthday with family and friends. The Barn is more spacious than it looks in the photos and the views are incredible. The kitchen is very well equipped more than enough of everything for a group of 13 people. Every bedroom is ensuite. The hot tub, Poole and football table were well used. We would highly recommend The Barn for a family and friends gathering.
Bernadine
The property was amazing, lots of room for the family which ranged in age from 16mths to 88years old the views were great and it was so peaceful the owner was really helpful and friendly. The only thing I would suggest is that in the kitchen area there is a lip on the flooring which we all kept tripping on, maybe make it more visible but all in all a beautiful place
Nicola
We had a lovely family holiday at the Barn. Very spacious with superb views across the countryside. The children loved the open plan space and fishing with crab nets in the ponds. The staff and owners were very nice, special thanks from my Grandson who was so pleased with his medal.
Great property with gorgeous views. Absolutely everything provided over & above just couldnt find hairdryer?
Sharon
Wonderful property. Bit noisy during the night when people walk on the floorboards even when tiptoeing, but given the amazing positives, it is only a small issue.
Had a lovely time at The Barn and was very impressed with the facilities including the large TV and amount of space we had in the property. Also impressive to find loads of bin bags, dishwasher tablets etc. We would all be happy to stay again.
Richard
This was the ideal place for cross generation familys to spend their Christmas together. There was a lovely decorated Christmas tree lit up to welcome us and get us in the festive spirit. There was plenty of living room so you never felt on top of each other . The pool table and football table gave all great entertainment. The oven is an Aga , which was a bit of a challenge, but with the help of the Mary Berry instructions and cook book left on the side, all was good . With beautiful country views and a short drive to the coast, what more could you want .
Shelley
This is a lovely property situated in a beautiful location, close to Beer and Seaton. We had a very enjoyable stay here, the facilities this barn has to offer is all very good with the extra added bonus of the hot tub, the trampoline and little play park was great for the kids. We would not hesitate to come back or recommend to others.
Lovely Barn Lovely place the views are amazing, great for a big family gathering, lots of space, Beds a little small be nice if there where some more kings size beds and a more sturdier mattresses, all in all for the price a great week away at a fantastic venue.
An ideal venue for a big family get together, good facilities, ideal location, it was enjoyed by the whole family!
Pamela
We read all the reviews before booking the property and I'm hoping this review will help making your decision. The property is in a great location, amazing views and very quiet. It's spacious and easily accommodates a large group. It is equipped with everything needed for a large group booking. However, the internal condition of furnishings are tired and in need of replacing. For the cost, I was expecting some basic luxuries such as, fluffy towels, good quality beds & bedding, nice toiletries, welcome basket etc... no avail I've emailed detailed comments to Sykes and the owner. The owner did not agree with our feedback and has become defensive as a result. My advice is if you're paying anymore than 5k a per week for this property, it's not worth the cost due to the internal condition. Anything less than this amount is perfectly reasonable. This calculation is based on our visit in August, completely appreciate that utility charges will affect and increase overhead cost for future bookings. This property location is 5 stars but 3 stars in some areas 2 stars for internal condition.
Beautiful location with stunning views, a well equipped and comfortable building ideal for a large family or a meet up with family and friends.
Shakil
Thank you to our hosts who gave us a lovely place to relax & unwind, We ... Thank you to our hosts who gave us a lovely place to relax & unwind, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again
Christopher
Fantastic holiday and property.
Beautiful house with everything you could possibly need. Our only disappointment was the barbecue it is an electric George Foreman which is not big enough for a property of this size. We are a family of 13 and had brought enough meat for 2 barbecues which wasnt possible to do, so we had to go and buy a new charcoal one. Apart from this as I say everything about the property was superb and the views are stunning. Jamie was a star organising the archery and the boys thoroughly enjoyed it.
Jacqueline
What an absolutely idyllic place to stay right out in the country. The Barn was so spacious for 12 of us, bedrooms were also spacious all en suite. The children loved feeding the chickens and collecting some eggs. Had lovely walks around the farm and also into Beer. We were so lucky with the weather so were able to sit on the sun terrace everyday. So loved to hear the turkeys!!! The hot tub was in full use!! To have the whole family together after two years due to Covid was an absolute treat to celebrate all missed birthdays and Christmas. Thank you for a great week.
Amazing!!! Myself and some friends and family have just got back from this beautiful place and already talking about booking again. The photos dont do the place justice.everything about it was perfect. So clean and tidyBEAUTIFUL views. The house has everything and anything you could possibly want. The owners have thought of everything. A trip we will be talking about forever!!
Christine
We had a lovely family Christmas at the Barn. .. The space was brilliant for the 9 of us plus 2 dogs. We Couldn't fault the facilities and the gorgeous surroundings. The Christmas tree was appreciated and the welcome goodies made us feel at home as soon as we arrived.Would love to return in the Spring or Summer to really appreciate the farm and and local walks. Christine Alexander and family.
Jessica
Another wonderful weekend at the barn. Beautiful setting, beautiful home and very kind and accommodating owners.
We had a brilliant time at the barn. The photos do not do it justice on just how big the place is. With 6 rooms, all en suite, and with space for the dogs, we had the whole family there grandparents, parents and grandkids. It was amazing. Hot tub and games room room was a hit with the kids. The place is very remote and quiet, with lovely view over the valley. I would recommend The Barn to anybody.
I booked this house for my friends and I to celebrate my upcoming 40th. It had all the things we all enjoy hottub, pool table, huge house, fabulous kitchen and plenty of space according to the listing. However upon arrival it turns out that the pictures simply did not do this property justice. The house is epic in proportions. The kitchen was the best stocked, well prepared place the amount of cutlery became a bit of a standing joke! We truly could have managed banquets and catering for a wedding! Joanne the owner was lovely and easy to just pop a message to if needed and stopped by as we enjoyed wine on the terrace to check we were all happy. Do not hesitate to book this house, the space was wonderful. The Devonshire roads are quite an adventure, however I wouldn't think twice about coming back. The resident alpaca, goats and ostrich were charming companions to say hello to over the hedge too. The Barn, Southleigh... thank you for the best memories made.
On arrival the house was spotless, every glass and piece of cutlery, the two fridges and six bathrooms all shone. The kitchen really does have everything, we reckoned you could easily cater a small wedding there plus make the cake! Yes, the location is remote and we cooked meals every night, but what a joy in the vast kitchen with both electric and aga cookers. We were very lucky with the weather so most of our downtime was spent outside on the terrace soaking up the incredible view and the sunshine, I could feel my shoulders dropping, it was so relaxing. Activity wise we made good use of the hot tub and pool table, walked for miles along the stunning coastal paths, visited Beer and Seaton and had a fun afternoon clay pigeon shooting at Ashcombe Adventure Centre. The lovely owners live in a cottage nextdoor and left us completely to our own devices, just saying to ask if we needed anything and waving to us on the terrace as they occasionally went past. As mentioned in other reviews the floorboards are a little creaky upstairs but we all went to bed at roughly the same time so it wasn't an issue. There is no enclosed 'garden' as such but the owners were happy for our puppy to wander around the forecourt area and grassy field while we supervised, in fact he made friends with their lovely Bluebell and had a great time! You can probably tell that we had a fantastic week and would not hesitate to recommend.
The house was lovely, large and open plan downstairs was great for the whole family. The games tables were fun too. The hot tub was lovely too. The play equipment outside were handy. House is very well equipped, kitchen has everything you need. Slight negatives theres no enclosed garden as the play equipment is on the drive so kids need watching. Due to the open plan design and wooden floors you can hear EVERYTHING and everyone around the house. The cockerel is awake very early every day!!!! But its a farm so we should have expected something like that! All in all a great stay for a large family, thank you.
Elizabeth
Very remote, but very picturesque. Floors creak so much they disturb anyone sleeping.
Fantastic place to stay in a lovely area. Lovely open plan ground floor and outside spaces, so its great for groups. Good size bedrooms. Lots of parking. Had a really great holiday. Thank you.
