For Families
Cow'ouse is designed as a couples' retreat and sleeps only two guests in one bedroom. The barn has no specific facilities for children. The rural farmland setting offers outdoor space for exploration but the property sits on working land with livestock nearby. The wood-burning stove and open-plan layout make it better suited to adult guests seeking peace.
Groups Will Love...
The exposed oak beams spanning Cow'ouse's vaulted ceiling create an authentic barn atmosphere throughout the open-plan living space. These original structural timbers have been carefully preserved during conversion, showcasing the building's agricultural heritage. The beams contrast beautifully against the whitewashed stone walls and add warmth to the interior. Combined with the wood-burning stove below, they create a cosy rural retreat with genuine character.
Pet Friendly
Cow'ouse does not accept pets. The barn sits within working farmland where livestock graze in neighbouring fields. This makes it unsuitable for dogs who might disturb the sheep and cattle. The rural location offers excellent walking opportunities directly from the door, but guests will need to leave their pets at home for this particular stay in the Shropshire countryside.

Cow'ouse Reviews

Very comfortable, clean and well equipped, our second stay .
We were very pleased with accommodation . we stopped there for month between house moves . so would have found faults but no problems at all . as we are local not holiday as such . so biased about area . shrewsbury , nice walk from weir along river to town , nice town old buildings . plenty of other places to visit national trust . shropshire hills etc
Raymond
Lovely & well equipped cottage. Ideal location for visiting many interesting places nearby. Also we found the owner Pete very helpful.
We love this property. One of the best holiday homes we have stayed in. Perfectly equipped.
Michelle
Excellent property , very clean , had everything we needed , good location Definitely look to return
The cottage is beautiful and all we would look for for a break away in Shropshire. The garden furniture could do with an update but we rarely sit out as explore as much of the area as possible. The Tv was a challange but after a few days managed to find Channels 1 to 4. Overall the holiday was relaxing and Pete was happy to supply a fan as it was extremely hot the first 3 days of our holiday Our second visit to the Cow'ouse and maybe not the last.
We have 4 to 5 cottages every year and this is a lovely cottage and we will be back it was clean and comfortable especially the bed. Our dog Harry loved the grass and the garden. There wasn't a iron or ironing board and even though we did not need one some people expect this to be there. I will also say there was a lack of any welcome pack other than a pint of milk this we have never come across there as always been something fir guests. Other than the couple of things I would recommend to friends and family and we will certainly be back.
Michael
We had a wonderful few days in the Cow'ouse as a family with our 10 month old. The property was perfect for us and had cot and highchair set up, and when our baby discovered he could climb stairs now, Pete had a stairgate round within an hour! The area is lovely and will definitely be looking to stay again.
Caroline
Well maintained comfortable barn. Quite an isolated location but good access to many parts of Shropshire with Shrewsbury and Attingham Park being a short journey. Plenty of good eating places close by. The rear garden is safely enclosed and ideal for dogs. Owners were quick to assist with any queries.
Harriet
We had such a wonderful stay at Cowouse! It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay even things like washing up liquid and sponges, which many dont bother with a great shower, comfy bed and sofa. It was lovely waking up to the sheep in the field outside and our dog loved having the run of the garden. Pete was really friendly and helpful too. We would definitely return
Sharon
Cow'ouse is a wonderful place to stay. ..a home from home. The secure garden is great for dogs and the cottage itself had everything I needed. It was a pleasure to cook in such a beautiful kitchen. Comfy bed, great shower and lovely linens and towels everything felt of good quality, nothing done on the cheap. The sofa, whilst of good quality maybe isn't the comfiest if you want to curl up and watch a film it's quite shallow and upright but this could be improved by maybe just adding a footstool for a little extra comfort. A great base for exploring and I'd highly recommend a visit to Hodnett Hall Gardens just ten mins away. I've stayed in many holiday rentals and Cow'ouse is one that I will definitely return to.
Suzanne
The cottage is amazing. Warm, comfortable and extremely well equipped. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind. The private garden was great, lovely sunny patio to sit and watch our dog playing.
We had a lovely stay at the CowOuse, even our dog Earl enjoyed himself running around and playing in the garden. The cottage was well equipped, and we would definitely recommend this accommodation to family and friends for a quiet relaxing break. The local village is only a 5 minute drive away, with a small supermarket, bakery, butcher shop, fish and chip shop. We would definitely recommend the Fox and Hounds pub, great food and service not too expensive. The host Pete was helpful and only a phone call away. Would love to return in the future.

Second time of visiting lovely well appointed place
This is the first property we have visited that we haven't had to do any cleaning or wash dishes, cups & cutlery. I always though I was over picky as I am a housekeeper! We stayed 4 nights & it was relaxing, comfortable, peaceful & had everything we needed. Our dog had the best time because he had total freedom to come & go in the secure back garden. He was super relaxed too. We will be staying again
Had a lovely time , ideal for our energetic dog as the lawned area was large enough for him to run around .
Our stay at cow'ouse was a beautiful holiday stay in the Shropshire countryside. The cottage was immaculate and well positioned for exploring the area and Wales too. We found that a few more knives and forks would be handy if using the dishwasher and a collander for straining vegs. Our Whippet Penny enjoyed the freedom in the garden and new smells. We were fortunate to meet Pete the owner and enjoyed chatting over the garden fence. We will definatly recommend the cottage and hope to return. We added some brochures and would highly recommended Hawkstone Quarries and British Iron and Steel Sculpture park in Owerstry. Great week in all.
Kathleen
We very much enjoyed our stay. A lot of effort has clearly been put into making the cottage really lovely and welcoming, and it is very well equipped. The enclosed garden is fantastic for dogs. Our only comment would be that the sofa seems a bit tired very low down and saggy. A teapot and a couple of egg cups would be useful, but those are very minor points indeed! Thank you very much and we definitely hope to return..
This cottage was absolutely lovely! It had everything you could possibly need while away and our pooch loved the enclosed garden so she could run around freely. It is also situated in a great place so its easy to get to shops if needed and to go explore the Shropshire countryside. Pete was a great host and was on hand if we needed anything. Overall, it was a great stay and we would happily book to stay again
Philippa
We had the best weekend! Didnt want to come home, we stayed 3 nights over bonfire weekend as our dog is scared of fireworks and it was the perfect getaway! Everything was so clean, comfortable and so cosy! Lovely and warm and had everything we needed. Pete was available for anything we needed during our stay. Cant wait to return! Would definitely recommend!
Samantha
What a truly wonderful week. We have stayed in several cottages over the years, and this may well be our favourite. Total peace, quiet and relaxation. Spotlessly clean and extremely cosy. Very well equipped kitchen. If we ever come back to Shropshire, would definitely stay here!
Raymond
We found the cottage to be well designed & equipped. Also good parking & pleasing area to sit made this an ideal holiday.
Great converted barn accommodation done to a very high standard. Great location close to many attractions. Enjoyed our stay here wish we had booked longer so much to see in the area. Nice and quiet with a great out look over fields. One very small problem was the fenced garden was not totally secure as our small puppy could get under the large gate , however owner has said he will correct this. Will probably book the 2 bedroom barn next time as daughter wants to come.
Perfect place to stay. Could not find a fault anywhere. We will be back.
Jonathan
We had a great short break at the Cow'ouse. The property was spotless, well equipped and perfect mix of a property with history but finished in really modern style with all the comforts you need. Booking was easy and Pete the owner really responsive and helpful, would definitely recommend.
Pauline
The Cowouse is an absolutely lovely place to stay ,it is done to a high standard and very comfortable ,large lawn for the dog to run about on and patio furniture to sit and relax as south facing so sun shines from morning to night if your lucky like we were . The owner Pete was very friendly and always in hand if there was a problem. Would definitely recommend this property and would love to stay again in the future.
Great property. We used as a base to visit alot of Shropshire. It was set in a very tranquil area. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment. The whole property was clean and modern. The shower was excellent, nothing worse than a lack lustre shower. We had 7 nights and it felt like home.
Superb. A wonderful place to stay and relax. I highly recommend Cow'ouse.
Charlotte
Absolutely fantastic stay. Extremely comfortable and tasteful. Great location, all amenities within a reasonable driving distance and still a proper countryside view from the garden.
Michael
Thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Cowouse. The barn conversion has been done to a very high standard. Pete the owner is very helpful re local knowledge. Best Sykes cottage we have stayed at.
The Cow'ouse is an outstanding holiday cottage, it is very well equipped and it's location is ideal for exploring Shrewsbury and North Shropshire. The owners were always on hand to deal with any enquiries even for the best dog walks. This is by far the best holiday cottage we have taken and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet break.
Lauren
We cant fault our stay at the Cowouse the gorgeous cosy cottage had everything we needed. Location was perfect for us to explore local places with the dog Attingham Park, Haughmond etc. Thank you for such a lovely stay.
Stephanie
Fantastic cottage! My husband and I stayed here for 12 nights over Christmas and we have no complaints. Good communication with the owner.
Rachel
Stayed here for 3 weeks with my husband and Great Dane. The cottage is brand new and immaculate. Really cosy, warm and homely larger than it looks in the pictures. The back door was great to let the dog straight out into the garden, where she loved to sit and watch out for Pheasants. Very well equipped with everything you need and more!. Surprised it's just listed as 4 ticks. Pete, the owner, was on hand just in case and was very welcoming and helpful. It's a five min drive to the local village for groceries and the Chinese takeaway is excellent. We loved it and would definitely stay again.
