Clarence House Reviews

Clarence House is set in lovely gardens very close to the small town of Dalton, making it very handy for local shops and pubs. It is a great base for exploring the area. After some initial hiccups which were solved by speedy communication with the owner and property managers, we had a great stay. The house manual could do with updating to provide accurate help when needed. There are some signs of wear and tear but overall these do not affect your enjoyment of the house.
Stuart
Fantastic house. Placed in a great area and ticked every box for a group of 13. Would definitely stay here again.
Tracey
Clarence House didn't disappoint. The photos don't do it justice. Plenty of room for everyone. Loved the dining table that seated everyone together. All the bedrooms were roomy and light. Outdoor space was great. Managers on hand if you needed anything. Would highly reccommend.
The space was huge and the kitchenliving area was perfect for a big group. There were lots of cutlery, plates, etc. The beds were very comfortable, good access to travel cots and high chairs, plenty of parking, and it is in a good location. We just had a couple of teething issues The fuse board tripped and wasnt accessible for us to switch back on. The WiFi in the barn didnt work and was weak in the cottages, which made things difficult when using baby monitors. I dont think the description of the layout of the 8 bedrooms is 100 clear, which made it slightly more difficult for us as a group with lots of small children. There are only 3 bedrooms in the main house that are accessed through the main door one upstairs and two on the ground floor just off the living space. There is one bathroom that serves these 3 bedrooms. Two other ensuite bedrooms are accessed by going outside onto the courtyard, and each of these has its own separate entrance. The barn with the hot tub is a completely detached building towards the back of the garden. It is not far away, but it may not be suitable if you want to put younger children to bed without leaving the main house yourself. Two bedrooms in the barn are part of the same space, with another bedroom having its own separate entrance. It was all very lovely and spacious, and would be perfect for adult groups or those with older children.
We stayed here for a 70th birthday celebration There was 15 of us and it couldnt have been more perfect The space is perfect for large gatherings with a fantastic open socialising space with more than enough sofas for everyone. The property has other spaces for those who need so quiet spacesleep and the grounds and hot tub was amazing.
Lovely place. Well laid out for a big group. Great hot tub. Some nice bedrooms, others a bit more functional. Nice village as well with a great pub.
Rachel
We had a fabulous time celebrating my husbands 40th birthday at Clarence house. With a mixed group of ages ranging from 2 to 70 the facilities and space was ideal. The house is well maintained and very well equiped with table and glassware. The loungeseating area and dining table are huge which was the perfect space to celebrate without feeling on top of each other. Ample parking at the house and the hot tub was a nice treat. Communication with me throughout the booking was great I would definately recommend this property.

We had a lovely stay here to celebrate my birthday, an ideal midway point as my friends are scattered around the country. Lovely buildings, especially loved the size of the kitchen and the variety of bedrooms available, and we'd love to come back in summer at some point to enjoy the outdoor space. For us the only downside was a lack of basics in the kitchen, not in terms of equipment which was great, but in a self catering we would usually expect to find basics like oil, salt, pepper, sugar, tea and coffee, especially with numerous kettles around the property. Very conveniently located for walking into town but far away enough that we weren't disturbed by noise from the road at all. Also really appreciated how accommodating you were for our friends' pet!

The heating and hot water in the Barn did not work on the first two days. One of the bedroom drawers was broken. No corkscrew, we bought one and left for the next visitors. No cleaning materials such as surface cleaners, sweeping brush. Dustpan and brush. The skylights in the main area were leaking so that water drops continued to drop down on to dining tables. The security light in the courtyard were on and off all night causing difficulty in sleeping. It was a good location but lacking good maintenance. We had to call out the emergency number to have a visit from a plumber who failed to fix the heating, my son identified the issue, corroded batteries in the Hive controller, which the owners came and changed on the 3rd day. No welcome gift!
The property was ideal for our group. The lounge and kitchen was great as there was lots of seating and space. The barn was lovely for the group and ideal that it was separate. The hot tub was well used but a covering would have allowed us to make more use of it. Cottage 1 would have benefited with a blind on the door to stop the lights from the sensor. Cottage 2 bathroom was a bit tired. These did not majorly impact on our stay. Owners were extremely helpful after I left a package which was promptly posted to me.
The property was absolutely perfect for my group. I host an annual fairy picnic and not only was the property a great size for so many people but it was also very beautiful. All the girls were happy with their room and the house as a whole. The property management is fantastic and very responsive and supportive. Weve decided to book again for next years picnic and have already recommended the property to friends and family. Its a good idea to bring dishwasher tabs or a few tea towels to help manage cleaning and stock up the main building bathroom with lots of toilet paper but these are minor and overall didnt impact the quality of our stay. Thank you very much to the property owners.
Great customer service from manager well informed about arrival procedure and immediate response when we locked ourselves out of one of the cottages. Would have liked the garden areas to have been tidier the grass was long and there were nettles around. The flies were a nuisance in the kitchen not owners fault but maybe more flycatcher or flyspray provided.Overall a good stay though.
Donald
Our 2 night stay was perfect. We found the property very spacious & comfortable set in lovely gardens. Everything was provided for us. Even thought there was 10 adults & 7 children in our group we werent under each others feet. Definitely be booking again
Angela
Lovely place and great for family get together. Barn lovely only negative is u can hear people talking below needs more sound proofing. Big house great space bathroom could do with upgrading as shower kept dripping. Julie was very helpful and responded to any enquiry promptly. Thank you. Thats the negatives but we had a great time and we enjoyed the house and garden. Thank you.

We stayed at Clarence House in January for a family get together. The size, location and parking were perfect for our large numbers. The big kitchen and dining tables were just what we needed and the large living area was ideal for the kids to play about in. Communication was great and all the advice given in the lead up was helpful too. We had two disabled members of the family too, so the bedrooms on the ground floor and with ensuites were what we needed. Just to note that one of the attached outside cottages had a shower with only half a shower door. And there is only one toilet in the main house to cater for 3 bedrooms and the main living area, so there were some queues at points in the stay! But these weren't major issues we'd definitely stay again, perhaps in the summer when we could enjoy the large outside space
Weve just arrived home after spending a big family Christmas at Clarence House. It has been brilliant. The main house has an abundance of sofas so we could all spread out. A beautiful Christmas tree had been put up in the living room so thank you to the owners for arranging that. The barn was stunning. The 2 little cottages were perfect. There were ample kitchen utensils, cups, plates, cutlery for the 17 of us. Everything was clean. The cooker looked brand new ! We had an issue with the main house toilet constantly flushing but we rang Julie who was super friendly and she arranged for it to be sorted the same morning. The staff are very personable and approachable if you have any issues and really go the extra mile to make sure you have the perfect getaway experience. The hot tub was brilliant for enjoying a glass of Bucks Fizz on Christmas morning in the rain! If I had any recommendations it would be to put a gazeboshelter over the hot tub but, seeing youre getting wet anyway I guess its not THAT important Weve had a fantastic time. Thank you.
Just back from a wonderful stay at Clarence House. We all had a great time and the property was exactly what we wanted. Plenty of room for everyone and so comfy and homely. Great communication from Julie and her team. Before and after I left my phone. Managed to accommodate earlier access and later check out which was great. Would
This Property worked well for us. A group of 8 wanting their own bedroom. Property was clean, spacious and well equipped. There is ample parking for a large group. We were lucky with the weather and the hot tub was excellent Property Manager was excellent .. Thank you
What was in the write up, videos & photographs was not what we experienced by a lobg way. Still waiting for a response... A 4000 weeks stay away should be dealt with as a matter of urgency with the videos, photographs & overall complaints we had. Not good enough!
Bernard
A wonderful property, and almost worthy of 5 stars, considering the cost paid for the rental thereof. .... However, a few comments that may be considered to improve for future guests There was no internet reception in the barn building Only 2 dish washer tablets in the property accommodating 12 people for a week Only one tea towel Just 2 black bin liners for disposing of rubbish No curtain at the glass of the door to one of the adjacent bed rooms Maybe some of them are small issues, and cost very little to the property owneragency, but considering the rental charge , we would have thought they could, and should be provided
Only one thing we needed a sweeping brush for the kitchendining area had to hoover every day.
Fantastic home, plenty of room and beautiful furnishings. It was ideal for a family stay. Great location we thoroughly enjoyed the short break. Thank you.
Could only report any problems before 50pm friday, chech in 40pm, not very good.
Clean, spacious, great facilities, location, parking, communication with the ownersproperty managers. The perfect cottage for a group booking. Thank you
Lovely weekend, the communal living and dining space was amazing and worked so well for our large extended family ! The gardens and hot tub were so lovely to relax in. My only recommendation would be for antislip mats in the showers in the cottages, they were slippy.
Really enjoyed our stay few small maintenance issues however did not affect our stay
Rachael
Had a wonderful stay at Clarence House for a family get together to celebrate a very special birthday. The accommodation was perfect for our party and we couldnt have wished for better. Beds were clean and comfortable, plenty of room for a large party to sit together in the evening and eat together when needed. Bathrooms were clean and linen and towels spotless. Within walking distance to the beachsea and an easy stroll to the local pub. Around 40minute drive to Windermere which is beautiful. We got a flat tyre whilst we were there and the caretakers Leanne and Phil couldnt have been kinder letting us shelter from the rain while we waited for assistance. They made a very stressful day much easier and we cant thank them enough. Would definitely recommend.
Garath
Great property with ample space for 18 of us, plenty of parking and all rooms were very clean. My great aunt locked herself out of her room as they are on Yale locks but the manager was round straight away to resolve and was always happy to help. The hot tub is a nice touch and you are totally separate from the property next door. Overall, really good stay and the manager was brilliant, would definitely recommend.
Aleksandra
Very nice property in a small for large amount of guests, rooms are separated so everyone has a bit of privacy. Kitchen is big and there is a lot of pots and pans, cups, glasses available Only minor thing was that tiles were very slippery going from hot tub to the main property. I would recommend to add that only 2 small dogs are allowed in the advert as this info was received after booking was made. Overall 5 property
Wonderful place especially we all love the kitchen living room and dinning room ... Wonderful place especially we all love the kitchen living room and dinning room outdoor we have more space for the kid for their activities
