Top Farm Lodge Reviews

Comfortable and well equipped. Met the owner who was extremely kind and helpful. Would stay here again.
Andrea
Lovely quiet stay. Nice enclosed garden, bit of a sun trap. Accommodation had everything we needed. Would return.
Cosy, warm and everything we needed. Very clean with comfortable seating and beds.
We had a lovely stay at Top farm lodge. It was perfect for the two of us and our boxer dog. Everything you need is right there! The only slightly negative was that the bedroom was soooo warm, but Im sure, had we been staying longer, a phone call to the lovely owner would have sorted that out for us. There is a shop just along the road, just a couple of minutes walk away and the Bradford Arms, which is just a couple of minutes further, is dog friendly and very welcoming. We had a lovely lunch there and were able to take our dog in to the bar area with us. Really handy for exploring Whittington Castle and Attingham Park both dog friendly and loads of other places that we just didnt get time to visit!! Would definitely recommend Top farm lodge.
Had a lovely stay at Top Farm Lodge. Accommodation excellent and the facilities perfect for my wife, me and our dog. The small but adequate, secure private yard and a lovely, enclosed grass field were perfect for our dog to exercise. Knockin is a nice village and very well positioned to explore this wonderful area. Would certainly recommend it!
Lovely cottage in an ideal location for exploring Shropshire & East Wales, Chester isn't far away if you want the visit the shops or the zoo, Llangollen, Trevor basin & the Pontcysyllte aqueduct, British Ironworks which is a wonderful place. Finding the cottage was a little difficult even with instructions from the owner as the Sat Nav took us around the corner, totally our fault, we were looking for the black & white house in the wrong place. There are 3 properties on the site, we were the only ones there so parking wasn't an issue, not sure it would be the same if the other 2 properties were occupied. Inside was functional if a little tired, although it was spotless when we got there, unfortunately there was no instructions on how to use the heating there were thermostats on the walls in each room, but the times & the temperatures on the didn't seem correct & I wasn't confident enough to play with them, we put the ceramic radiator on in the lounge which was enough expect for the last night when we lit the log burner, but then we had to open the doors as it was far too warm, lol. I could have called the owner but didn't feel it was necessary but instructions would have been nice. Other than that a great place to stay.
Richard
Great location and the property has everything you need even a log fire. Parking is good and with a lovely pub and grocers store within a five minute walk it is a great stay.
This is a lovely property. Its clean, wellpresented and well maintained. We visited as a couple with a small dog, so had plenty of space in the shared living area and really enjoyed having some enclosed outside space. The property is well equipped eg with kitchen equipment, a smart tv, and the water is amazingly hot. The only missing item was there was no freezer which is part of the property listing but didnt effect our stay.
Louise
Gorgeous property, modern and nicely decorated with everything you could need. Very comfortable and in a lovely village with a shop and pub. The directions arent accurate and we had to ask a the local shop where the cottage was. Other than that, it was a perfect break
Nicholas
An excellent property. Great location. Clean, comfy & cosy. Nice and peaceful surroundings with a feeling of privacy too. Lodge was well equipped and made our stay so enjoyable. Our dog loved it and was very settled there.
It is a lovely lodge with good facilities. The adjacent field was great for our dog who thoroughly enjoyed herself. A nice pub in te village which is within easy walking distance is a bonus.
We had a very enjoyable couple of nights at Top Farm Lodge. Beautiful lodge, very clean and everything you need there. The sortbread biscuits were really lovely, thank you. Our dog Silva enjoyed his stay too. We had a great time at the British Iron works, amazing place. Plus lots of lovely walks nearby. Thank you for your hospitality. Would highly recommend.
Good property, well maintained. Loved the woodburner
Claire
We absolutely loved our stay and we loved the lodge. The lodge was so comfy and well laid out and decorated to a high specification. Thank you.
Great place. Lovely and cozy. Everything we needed was provided. Local pub was not great. We walked to the Cross Keys in the next village and had an amazing Sunday roast.
Denise
To be fair the property was as described. However small changes would make a huge difference. There are no coffee tables in the lounge area, so nowhere to place a drink. The fridge is on the small side making it difficult for food storage. There were dog hairs on the rug in the lounge and dog hair on the double bed.
Lovely cottage bedrooms cold though. Well equipped kitchen. Owner always friendly and ready to help.
Lovely owners. Lovely place to stay, clean and comfy. Nice decorated. Could do with a couple of small side tables by the chairs and settee to put a cuppa on. Perfect position for lots of visits. For a small place it doesn't feel it, very nicely done.
The location was perfect for our needs and the property had obviously been built, furnished and equipped to a very high standard from the start but there were a number of maintenance and equipment issues that suffered from neglect and must have built up over time. It led us to wonder if your company has any program of routine inspections. None of this spoilt our stay so we gave four stars. Usually we have been able to give five. Dave
We received a warm welcome to a very comfortable cottage, well equipped with plenty of room for a family and in a very pleasant village. We used the holiday to visit 3 National Trust properties all within easy reach.
Deborah
Sadly we did not stay at the holiday property we returned home , as it was not up to a good standard . The living area was in much need of repainting and a good overall clean, to brighten the place up. The holiday property needs maintaining. We use Sykes cottages all the time and have never had a problem but unfortunately this time we have paid for a holiday that we didnt have .
Nicola
Top Farm Lodge proved to be an ideal place for two friends who live in different parts of the country to share for a few days. It was lovely for each of us to have our own en suite, and the bed in the twin room was one of the most comfortable I've slept in for a long time. We didn't do any cooking during our stay but the kitchen seems wellequipped and the living area is very comfortably furnished. We didn't make much use of the private courtyard as the weather wasn't really good enough but I imagine it would be very nice to sit outside with a coffee first thing in the morning or to eat lunch outside in warmer weather. The cottage feels welcoming and even in bad weather it was cosy enough without having to light the log burner, so I would be happy to consider a winter break there. The location is great plenty of walking on the doorstep and easy access to Oswestry and Shrewsbury. The shop and pub in the village are both a short walk away and the food and service at the pub are both very good. We both enjoyed our stay and I would happily recommend Top Farm Lodge.
Very comfortable and perfect for my elderly mother. A good centre for visiting Chester Zoo and Wales.
Absolutely had a lovely stay. Everything was there that we needed and it was all really clean. The beds were so comfy. We enjoyed using the paddock, my dog had so much room to play. Bob and Margaret were so lovely and friendly. Would love to come back another time.
Matthew
We've stayed here a few times and always have a lovely time. The property is spotless and comfortable, with everything you need. We've stayed with my father in the past who has mobility issues and now also with a dog and a baby, and the property has always worked really well for all of us. We also love the area as close to all the places we need. Will hopefully be back!
Elizabeth
The perfect place to stay! I would happily bring friends back to stay here. Great set up, great location and lovely hosts. Everything you could need for a restful time away, dog loved it too!
Pleasant stay good walks around for selves and for dogs
Lovely little cottage. Good standard of accommodation and very clean. Only thing missing is a coffee table! Nice dog walk on the field and a longer walk around the village if wanted. Village shop sells most things and the pub does good food.
Christine

Deborah
Lovely property, very comfortable and well appointed. The only thing that would improve it for me would be a larger fridge, especially in this brilliant weather! Great location with a good pub in walking distance. Well placed to visit alot of local attractions. We had a lovely stay thank you.
Was a lovely cottage with everything we needed, Owner was lovely and on hand if we had any problems, local pub was dog friendly and the staff and food were excellent. The owners of the local shop were very friendly and the prices were very reasonable.
Ann-marie
Lovely property, like that both rooms had an ensuite. Milk and biscuits left by the owner which was A nice touch. Loved the log burner which we used one of the evenings. Not much in local vicinity so be prepared to have to drive out.
Matthew
This is second stay in this lodge and we will definitely be coming back! It is a cosy, clean and comfortable lodge and has everything you need. Thank you.
Rosemary
Such a lovely cottage within easy travelling to some great places, amongst which is the National Ironworks Museum, super place for all the family and its free of charge to visit. It was well below freezing when we stayed but we were cozy and warm, especially with the little log burner, lots of logs supplied with no additional charge. There were just 2 of us and a dog but plenty of room for 4 as the cottage has 2 bedrooms each with en suite.
Brilliant had lovely time
Rebecca
The property was clean & facilities great. The private courtyard was a lovely to sit & have a cuppa or eat. Bedrooms are nicely done both with ensuites one a Pshape bathshower & the other a walkin shower. Lounge & Kitchen are just the right size cozy but not cramped. It was too warm for the log fire but we aim to go back this winterspring so perhaps we'll test it then. It's dog friendly with a big field onsite & many walks nearby. Great base in which to see the area or nice enough to recharge with a relaxing night it or visit to the local Marstons' pub walking distance which is under new management. Local shop wasn't too expensive & stocked some local produce too prices for everyday items weren't ridiculous. Finally, owners are also lovely & friendly. All round great & we will return!
Katherine
A lovely comfortable stay in this super cottage. Very well appointed and everything we could need including washing machine and freezer. The problem we had with the shower running very hot was attended to by the owners very swiftly. Our golden retriever loved running around in the big field. The lovely village of Knockin was a great location for accessing the delights of Shropshire Hawkstone Follies Blists Hill Victorian Town & Ironbridge, Nesscliffe Country Park The British Ironwork Sculpture Park, Shrewsbury town and midWales Offa's Dyke Path, Llangollen Canal and Pontcysyllte aqueduct. We truly felt that a week wasn't long enough and that we'd only scratched the surface of what this area has to offer.
The accommodation was so clean and fresh and lovely to be in. We were particularly pleased to have the field to exercise our very large dog in. We would happily return.
Some door handles were a bit loose and we did run out of toilet roll and washing up liquid but that wasn't a big problem.
Christian
Very clean and tidy, very comfortable and spacious. I would recommend this place and for myself I would go again.
