The Old Workshop Reviews

From the moment we arrived it felt like home. Considering this is a dog friendly cottage there was no hint of a dog ever setting foot inside no hairs, no odour. Spotlessly clean throughout and extremely well appointed. The ground floor bedroom and ensuite perfect for our elderly mother with dementia she was comfortable and safe at all times. The mezzanine level lounge area a perfect getaway and so light and airy. The master bedroom and ensuite well appointed and spotlessly clean. Extremely comfortable bed and lovely fluffy towels. Fantastically equipped kitchen with every appliance, crockery, cutlery etc you could need. The well fenced and enclosed garden perfect for our dog too. Great location for walking to the nearby Marina, canal paths, nature reserves and bird hide. All in all The Old Workshop ticked every possible box for us!
Claire
Absolutely wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyed staying here for a week. Very clean & comfortable a home from home. Loved the view from the mezzanine level. I would happily stay again.
Christine
Great 2nd visit
Great accommodation, we chose the old workshop as it has a ground floor bedroom with a walkin shower as one of our party is disabled with limited mobility. The property was very clean and well stocked with everything we required, including t towels, and a lovely welcome pack of tea coffee milk and biscuits. My only suggestion would be the provision of a shower mat for the ground floor bathroom and a mirror over the sink. We did buy a shower mat as our disabled member was unable to stand due to smoothness of tray. Location was great with easy access to Telford, Ironbridge and north Wales. Local eateries the Bull and Dog and The Sun were great with good selection and a choice or small or large portions. Whixall Marina cafe also great with a hood selection of food and drink. On arrival we went to the Loaded fries night at the marina which was great to have on doorstep after a long drive. Fries were very tasty. There are some great walks in the area and the fact dogs are welcome at the old workshop is a bonus. We would highly recommend this property. Thankyou for a lovely stay.
Cottage was lovely one of the best weve stayed in. The garden was great for the dog. The only issue was the lack of internet access which would have been a problem with younger family members. If this is an area issue perhaps it could be better highlighted in the information provided. If it isnt perhaps equipment needs updating.
Claire
Gorgeous place to stay, the house its self is impressive. Such a quiet place to come back to after a day out exploring. Would definitely recommend The Old Workshop . Didnt bother us but, its quite a car ride to a major road about 3040 minutes, from the The Old Workshop . But its definitely worthwhile as the tranquility is second to none .
A beautiful, well designed, well appointed cottage in a lovely location. Very clean and well looked after. Lovely walks along the canal nearby for the dog and a secure garden. Used the Marina cafe which provides a nice menu at reasonable prices.
Graham
The property was spotlessly clean and we immediately felt at home. The garden is fully enclosed and perfect for our escape artist whippet. This property is ideal for anyone who likes walking or cycling and Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Wem are close to Whixall and all worth a visit. We did go to the Marina Cafe which with our dog was about a 5 minute walk away. The breakfasts are really good and all the staff there are friendly and helpful. The couple in the adjacent Tyre Shed Cottage said it was the only place they have returned to and we believe we will also come back when we next have a break.
A lovely place to stay. Really warm and clean. Great for the dog with a secure garden and lots of walks nearby. Also a dog park just up the road for secure off lead running about. Everything you would need for a self catering break away and with the cafe down the road, opportunities not to cook too. Downstairs bedroom and walk in shower perfect for my disabled parent.

The cottage was extremely welcoming, warm, cosy and very well resourced we had everything we needed for a full blown Christmas celebration with 6 adults and a dog. It was a wonderful week. Both Sykes Cottages and the property manager, Lou, were so helpful from start to finish and answered all my questions quickly and efficiently. Thanks to both teams, I would most definitely recommend.
This is our second visit to the Old Workshop lovely accommodation in lovely surroundings. Would definitely recommend
Valerie
The Old Workshop was a lovely well equipped and spacious property. The garden has a bbq and plenty of seating with a fence round and are not overlooked. It is situated near to a marina where there is a cafe where you can enjoy watching the canal boats, which is also dog friendly. Although it is quite rural there are plenty of good pubs within a short drive. I would recommend it and hope to return.
We had a lovely time in this cottage. The pictures don't do it justice. It was immaculate, spotlessly clean and gorgeous decor. Very well maintained, it looked like it was newly done up. 1010
Kenneth
Really great cottage and the only criticisms we would raise are minor. We had to use the tumble dryer which we would not normally do. A retractable washing line would be of benefit and more environmentally friendly. The garden furniture and the sofa could be more comfortable. Stress these are minor issues and the cottage is one of the best we have had stayed in.

Very good no problems

Once we booked the Old Workshop we could not wait for the time to arrive for our Holiday. Everything about it looked stunning. On arrival we were not disappointed, it is such a lovely place to stay . Everything has been done to it to very high standards . On the day of our departure we both said the same thing ,we didn't want to leave the place. If I had to describe it in one word it would be AMAZING.
Excellent property in a lovely peaceful setting. We will definitely go back again.
Lovely modern conversion . Clean tidy well equiped.with all that we needed. I personally struggled with the sofa as there was a low back and got neck ache with no head support. Would also prefer a little stoolseat in bathroom
Wonderful week at The Old Workshop . All facilities inside were to a very high standard resulting in a luxurious comfortable stay . Fully enclosed garden for the dog . Lovely wee touches of dog mat and bowl with a gift of shortbread for the humans . Exceptionally clean Would definitely recommend and would book again if holidaying in Shropshire again
Lauren
A beautiful, well designed and furnished property. A lovely home from home to relax in which was comfortable and warm, perfect in this November weather! The kitchen had everything you could possibly need so we were able to cook with no issues. Showers were great, had good pressure and were walk in showers with plenty of space there are no baths but this wasn't an issue for us. Beds were beautifully made up, bedding was soft and beds comfy we took our own pillows after seeing a review that said pillows are thin and we recommend doing the same. We took our husky, there was plenty of space for her in the property and the secured garden was great, and there are lots of great walks locally and also ones you can drive to we loved Attingham Park. Internet and tv were good enough for what we needed. There is ample off road parking outside the property and it was easy to find using what 3 words. Will definitely stay here again and would highly recommend.
Edward
Absolutely first class accommodation and definitely deserves to be rated as outstanding. Would have no hesitation in returning or recommending to others.

We had a great week in the Old Workshop accommodation was clean & comfortable and location was very good. The nearby Whixall Marina & Cafe was a real bonus both for a morning coffee and for walks along the canal. We all had a slight issue with the pillows provided these appeared well used & very flat & in need of updating.
Rebecca
Lovely relaxing stay at the Old Workshop. Marina is close by and has a nice little cafe. You can't actually see the canal from the cottage but it's a short walk. The cottage is quite remote with not much around but that didn't bother us as we just wanted to relax. The cottage was really clean and communication with owners was good.
Absolutely lovely accommodation and well equipped. For some reason we thought it was in the marina with the marina as the outlook. A 2nd TV up in the snug would have been ideal for a breakout area and the grass could have been cut, but these are really small niggles and did not detrack from our enjoyment
This is a lovely property. There are some great walks from the door along the canals and lots of places to visit only a short drive away.
Francis
Lovely accommodation. Very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. One small niggle.. As a party of four elderly people we did find it very slippery and possibly dangerous when using the shower. Providing a non slip mat for the shower would be appreciated.
Denise
This is one of the best propertys we have been to. A credit to the owners. Very clean. Lovely quiet very little traffic. We live on a main road so it was great to be able to hear the birds. lovely walks along the canal. The cafe at the marina was a very nice place to sit and watch the narrow boats coming going. A lovely touch was shown by the owners by leaving tea, coffee, milk, sugar, salt & pepper. Not forgetting the lovely tin of biscuits. Thank you so much for a lovely holiday.
Penelope
Delightful location near canal with pleasant walks and many good places to visit gardens, National Trust and English Heritage Properties etc. Cottage extremely comfortanle and fitted out to a high standard
Lovely holiday let with every convenience provided. Very clean and presented.
We had a lovely week at The Old Workshop which is a well equipped holiday home. A DVD player in the facilities would have been the icing on the cake for entertainment on the wet days. Will certainly return when next in the area.
Glynis
Just wow this is a truly amazing property. Warm, clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated, well equipped and cosy. Also loved that it was a truly dog friendly garden. Would certainly stay again.
A lovely property with all you need. Clean, tidy, comfy. Nothing we could fault, this is our second visit to these properties and we will certainly be back.
We loved it! The property is furnished beautifully and has everything you need. One of the best we have been in. Dog friendly garden. Lots of canal walks. Would highly recommend and would rebook. Fabulous for family gatherings if you wanted to book the house next door and the tyre barn next door.
Immaculate inside and out, large with a cosy feel. Everything you needed and more, our granddaughter and little dog loved the garden. Great sitting room upstairs to chill in, especially the low window to watch the world go by. Thanks for a great stay hope to be back next year.
Rebecca
We loved our stay. On arrival it was clear we had picked a gem. The design and finish was lovely, immaculately clean and well presented. The sofas and beds were so comfortable. No corner left unturned, every kitchen item we needed was available too. This made a perfect space for us to set off and explore local walks with our dog. The garden was secure and tidy for him. Such a quiet location with easy access onto canal paths. We would love to return again
Amazing thankyou, we loved this place, from the beginning, arrived to find some ... Amazing thankyou, we loved this place, from the beginning, arrived to find some lovely goodies from Louise, I always need a cuppa, milk and tea were very much appreciated, very thoughtful, I cannot fault anything, the stay was just lovely, comfy, cosy, warm, well stocked with everything you could possibly need, the best thing I can say is thank you, and we did not want to go back home Jan
Francesco
They thought of everything! ! We decided to have Christmas away this year, and we are so glad that we did! The place is beautiful. Everything has a high standard finish that doesnt seem to be showing any signs of ageing. It has a real cosy feel about it. They thought of everything, there was even a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. No need to take your own potato peeler! Thank you, we had a wonderful stay and would love to plan another stay soon.
This little haven away from it all is just beautiful inside and out, comfy and warm with all the amenities you would expect and set in a modern style with the exterior happily 'nodding' to its former use. Just wonderful.
Excllent house 4 of us stayed for the week & really enjoyed it we were all cycling so the excellent bike shed was good & very secure. Well done.
