The Barn Reviews

Hannah
We loved our stay at The Barn. We received really prompt help, before our stay, when we had questions about the property and facilities. A warm welcome upon arrival from both the family and the resident chickens! We enjoyed exploring the farm, seeing the lambs, climbing to the top of the field and watching the steam trains pass, and waking round the farm's wooded walk. The barn itself was warm and cosy, with a well appointed kitchen, generous dining area, and all the cooking equipment you need including a good selection of coffee and tea making facilities. The beds were large, warm and cosy. The bath was beautiful, and the water plentiful and hot! We were two families staying together for the week and we had a wonderful time. My son had lots of questions about life on the farm and Jackie always took the time to answer them all. We would definitely recommend it to anyone else who was considering booking a stay here.
This was a lovely place to stay with our family over New Year. The other cottages on the farm made it easy to accommodate varying numbers of people through the week. The Barn was warm and comfortable and had everything we needed. It was so nice to walk round the surrounding fields and meet the hens and goats. Thanks for a lovely stay.
We had a lovely stay at The Barn. Our hosts were very friendly and ensured that we had everything we needed. Perhaps a slight heads up on the advertising of this holiday cottage regarding roaming cockerels chickens would have been appreciated. They were sweet but literally walked into where we were staying on most days. We had a party member with us who has a serious bird phobia and because of this her stay wasn't as enjoyable. We appreciate that it is a working farm however. The facilities were great. Our only constructive feedback would be to replace the large fabric sofa as it was grubby, especially on the arm rests and it looked quite tired. Overall, The Barn was a wonderful place to stay in a beautiful part of the country. Thank you for having us.
Christina
The Barn provided our party of eight with spacious, beautiful, quirky, clean and wellequipped accommodation we all loved it. Efficient heating which included a January necessity of a log burner The owner greeted us on arrival imparting local knowledge and useful information regarding walks, shops etc. We couldn't have wished for a better place to stay for our weekend. Defiitely recommend and would definitely stay at The Barn again.
Great host, cozy place and great location
Michael
Nice location with plenty of places to visit nearby for all ages. Parking good. But WiFi virtually non existent. However, we gather this could be an issue with the area in general
We had a really great stay beautiful hills with fantastic views on your doorstep, an exciting steam train with great coastal towns to stop off and explore, and a nice local pub. The beds were really comfortable and the kitchen had everything you needed. My only very minor complaint was the WiFi was a bit patchy but as the 4G was strong, we didn't even mention it to the host.
The accommodation was as expected from the listing, apart from one fabric sofa that is overdue for replacement. However the external appearance of the property was somewhat different. The image used must have been from when the property was first listed. It has now become somewhat overgrown and the outdoor table, chairs and the area it was in,was unusable. If we had rented the property in summer it would have been very disappointing not to have an outside area to sit eat in.

Great for a family get together, we celebrated my 60th birthday and loved it. Weather was terrible, but then it was January, and the Barn was lovely and warm.

The Barn was the absolutely perfect escape for us as a family after a frenetic Christmas, we had a wonderful stay, chilling out with games by the fire on New Year's eve and a lovely long walk. Beautiful setting and Jackie was a great host, we were sad to leave and hope to return. The lack of WiFi was the only reason for not giving full marks on facilities.
Christine
A Lovely cosy, child and dog friendly property. Lots of nice walks on the door step and furthers field. We stayed in November but despite very mixed weather we were warm and comfortable. Great place for a large family to gather around the table or relax together.enjoying the warmth of the wood burner. A very nice barn conversion which maintained the sense of the original whilst also offering practical and interesting accommodation . Would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the out door facilities.
We had a wonderful time at the barn, having stayed once already in 2018. Always great to see a bunch of old friends first time some Covid! but a beautiful, comfortable environment in which to do so. Private and peaceful, the barn was absolutely great. Comfy beds too!
Benjamin
Staying at the barn was absolutely fantastic. The owners, Jackie and Gary, were warm and welcoming. We are a large family with a wide range of ages and all of us enjoyed the house and farm. A particular highlight was the farm grounds which the children loved to explore. The house was clean and cosy as well as being well kitted out for all we needed. The surrounding area was also very beautiful and the house was well positioned for exploring the Quantocks, coast and historic village of Dunster. We would thoroughly recommend this as a wonderful place to stay.
Catherine
The barn is spacious, warm and clean . Good location with helpful owners. Beds comfy with good linen and plenty of towels. Well equipped kitchen for a large family. Could do with a bit of high level decobwebbing, but otherwise its all good!
We all absolutely loved our stay at the barn. Its full of quirky character with plenty of space and well thought out communal areas. It was lovely to be greeted by the chickens at the door every morning we didn't feed them Jaqueline There was more than enough space for the 9 of us and the cottage was well equipped The only very, very small blemish on the stay was a few cobwebs in the larger rooms in the ceiling area which was pointed out to Jaqueline and will be dealt with. This place is on our list to return to and I would recommend to friends and family. 15 min walk to the start of the Quantock hills and Watchet really is only a 10min drive away. Looking forward to planning our return.
Sheila
We had a lovely Xmas break. The Barn was perfect for the whole family. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. The children enjoyed feeding the chickens. Would highly recommend it. We all had a great time.
Danielle
A perfect place to stay for the weekend.
Our main concern was the very late checkin and very early checkout.
Hillary
Had some great walks out in the Quantocks and Exmoor. Particular favourites we're Lorna Doone valley and looking for fossils at Kilve. The Barn was spacious, kitchen well equipped with large fridge which was wonderful! Loved the hens and cats. High up in lounge area was very dusty,m, otherwise all very good and comfortable.
A class act. The helpful owners have put a lot of thought into providing a spacious and very comfortable holiday home, with the heating system and all the kitchen appliances working exactly as they should. There is an excellent pub in Bicknoller, and a well stocked supermarket in nearby Williton.
Denise
We had a wonderful holiday at The Barn. Everything was there that we needed & the owners, who live on site, were lovely. Our 2yr old granddaughter particularly enjoyed the chickens which were freeroaming around. The satnav found the property easily but there is a half mile single track lane which you have to navigate on the approach to the property. Would definitely recommend as a good base to explore area.
Angela
Hosts very friendly Location excellent
Christine
An idyllic location, and fantastic place to stay. Loved The Barn and the chickens! Really lovely, friendly and super helpful hosts. Lots to visit nearby. We will definitely be back!
Beautiful rustic setting within a working farm nestled among made for a wonderful weekend with the kids able to go off and explore the really interesting farmland which include and old water mill, river, rolling hills and woodland, not to mentions chickens, sheep, dogs, cats, pheasant and deer! They had a blast and not an ipad in sight. We received a really warm welcome from the hosts who were both friendly and helpful but also left us to enjoy the peace and quiet the site offers. Just what we needed.
We did not find any olven gloves, though the owner confirmed as we were leaving that they had been provided ? Otherwise, everything fine
We enjoyed the holiday with our daughters and family! The hosts were very obliging , there were a few problems with a few maintenance Jobs needed doing like fixing taps and plumbing but my son in law fixed these! He always has his tools with him on self catering holidays!! The house was clean but well lived in but great for us with 1 child and two teens in the party! We enjoyed visiting Watchet twice and had a meal at the Indian In Watchet which we pre booked As the August half price offer was on! It was really excellent also an evening meal at a local pub which was very good too! We played games and walked the dogs and visited Bridport and West sands favourites of our family and the weather was kind To us !
Really lovely comfortable property with spacious accommodation layout with great facilities in a good location for exploring the area albeit down a single track road. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We were able to roam freely around the farm estate as were the chickens, who were regular visitors to the front door. This is a working farm so there is no enclosed garden space which we would have liked for the children to get out and play safely, especially as we originally planned to have more than two with us when booking but that's my only personal negative. Plenty of parking. The local village pub served great food and was equally friendly and welcoming. Would recommend especially for larger families or multiple family groups.

We had a great stay here. The accommodation is perfect for adults, children and dogs. The Barn is very 'lived in' so don't expect luxury but there is everything you could possibly want. Well kittedout kitchen with range cooker, microwave, dishwasher. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc and fridge freezer. Own washing machine. Very clean with oodles of hot water and comfy beds...what's not to like? Small grass area with outside seating and functioning bbq. It was great for us with 2 active boys, a toddler and a dog. Very spacious downstairs with no knickknacks, pristine sofas or lovely carpets to worry about so we felt right at home. It has been converted with thought and has great atmosphere. There are lovely walks around the farm which has sheep and chickens. Within easy reach of beaches and local attractions Would definitely stay again.
Its an old barn that has been converted so dont expect the height of sophistication or luxury. However you can expect a lovely relaxing airy quirky oldeworld place that is comfortable well located and a wonderful holiday destination. The grounds are ideal for adults children and dogs alike, the walks from the door into the fields or down by the stream being lovely. The Quantocks were new to us and being literally on the doorstep are very worthwhile exploring. Similarly of course Exmoor is lovely too. A return journey on the steam train from local Stogumber to Minehead made my friends day and we sampled a couple of the local pubs which provided good basic pub grub unfortunately the most local at Bicknoller was in the process of changing hands so was not available for food, but the White Horse at Stogumber proved better than our expectations, especially as we were in on the night of monthly meet of locals and their guitars! Overall a really enjoyable week. Highly recommended
The Barn is in an excellent location. We enjoyed exploring Somerset and Devon. Our dog had a great time too. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and as we were there at lambing time we even got to feed some lambs.
Brilliant site , first time I have used it , very polite and professional communication
Overall the accommodation was as we expected. Our hosts were very accommodating and pleasant to deal with. Gary would always take time to stop and talk even though he was running the farm and was very busy. A few minor issues. The dishwasher top drawer was broken and we had to fiddle around with it for a while to get it back on it's runners. This happened daily. Short of a few items in the kitchen scourers for pans, dishcloths, etc. The main picture used in the Sykes Advertising is VERY OLD!!! This gives a false impression of the look of the barn. It makes it look much newer than it actually is. There were 6 adults & 2 children in our party and we had plenty of space.

Gordon
Very pleasant shortbreak venue. Owner's very helpful and welcoming, chickens at the door, lambs in the farmyard, delightful. Do remember, this really is a 'ruralrusticremoterelaxing' environment, deep down in the countryside adjacent to a busy working farm especially during the lambing season. So don't expect immaculately cleaned high level windows or cream halltowall carpets...it's a converted barn with many old features, creaky wooden doors and rusty window frames, timber beams etc., accessed by narrow lanes surrounded by high hedges, driving only distance from local amenities, pubs, shops and historic attractionstowns don't miss Dunster Castle. We were 5 excollegechums, all now over 65 yearsofage, for a country break midapril 2018 and we just loved the place! We would not hesitate to revisitrecommend.
