The Barn Reviews

Leanne
Gorgeous accommodation! Hot tub was perfect. Bonus with under floor heating. Shelia was very accommodating. Kids loved how friendly the cat was. Would highly recommend staying here. Thank you.
Lorraine
The gate to get into the property has a keypad which not visible from the road, there is a gap between the gatewall you pop through to put the code in on arrival. The barn is lovely, the views on arrival are stunning. The property is situated with other buildings around it,but it is really peaceful. The property was clean and well maintained and smelt amazing during our stay plug in . The kitchen appliances are all easy to use,you dont need instructions. Bedrooms are all a good size, there is not alot of hanging space, but it was not a problem. All bedrooms are comfortable. The hot tub was amazing, really hot and very relaxing. There are games and books in the lounge drawers. Plenty of open space if you take your fur babies with you. There is a small terrace with furniture. There are a few steps to get to the property and steps from the kitchen up to the lounge area. We had a lovely stay at The Barn. The owners are really lovely, if you need anything they are there,if not they leave you to enjoy your holiday. We would recommend you take the essentials with you milk, bread, butter, teacoffee, there are shops close by for a big shop. Relax and enjoy this property its beautiful.
Kitchen well equipped. Bedrooms and bathrooms comfy and spacious. Fantastic barn and surroundings, within walking distance to Holmfirth town. Only negative was hot tub wasnt private and shared patio with another lodge
Andrew
Lovely property, had everything we needed, except an iron!
Heather
Really enjoyed our stay at the Barn, facilities were great, beautiful location, near to Holmfirth centre. Everything was in the house that we needed. Easy check in and check out. Great weekend away with friends.
William
Beautiful location in stunning countryside. The property was clean and comfortable and well appointed and our hosts Sheila and David were very welcoming and helpful. There is lots to do in the area and we would definitely consider going back to The Barn again
Graham
We have stayed in several similar cottages over the years at Christmas time and all without exception have provided a fully decorated Christmas tree. Also a basic welcome pack containing bread and milk would have been greatly appreciated due to the location. We were very surprised to find that there was zero hanging space, a very narrow wardrobe if you could call it that it wouldnt even accommodate a standard coat hanger. With a little bit of thought and application the accommodation could be very good
Geraldine
Beautiful barn, had everything we needed, clean and spacious
The Barn was spotless and all facilities were excellent. We really enjoyed our short stay and hope to be back before too long.
Gorgeous Barn in a beautiful location Everything done to a high standard Comfortable and cosy Holmfirth on the doorstep Beautiful views and plenty of amazing walks. Hot tub was amazing relaxing and looking up at the stars on a clear night. Would definitely recommend the Barn
Lack of storage in bedrooms but lovely comfy beds and bathrooms nice and modern. Nice and roomy, well equipped kitchen. Would stay again if in area. Friendly owners.
Hayley
The barn was absolutely stunning, what a beautiful place to stay felt really homely, Sheila the owner was so wonderful! We really felt like we was at home! We will 100 be booking again and be recommending the barn The village was also wonderful! Lovely local pubs and restaurants We just had an overall wonderful stay xxx
Perfect for a short break. Town is only a 20 min walk down hill but coming back those with walking difficulties may struggle. Clean, well maintained property
Lyndsay
Beautiful Barn in a great location. The area is so peaceful, lots of picturesque walks right on your doorstep. Very clean on arrival, has everything you'll need for your stay included, the log burner was very cosy especially on a night and the hot tub was lovely too. Definitely recommend to friends and family and will return in the future
Beautiful house and location. Unfortunately only about one third of the jacuzzi was operational. Bring a saucepan if youre planning to cook. Otherwise a pleasant stay.
Amanda
Fantastic place, very comfortable. Wouldnt have been as comfortable with 6 adults as there is only 2 2 seater sofas, there was only 3 of us. Would definitely return if in the area.
Nicola
We have just returned from a lovely weeks stay at the barn. The barn has everything you could need. Very modern and clean. More storage for clothes would be great but apart from that it is spot on and it didnt bother our stay. The owners are very helpful and the hot tub was a great hit for everyone. Holmfirth is a lovely place to visit with lots of walks and shops, pubs and places to eat and visit Would definitely make a return visit. Nic, Joe & family
Claire
Lovely property with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing stay in Holmfirth. Whilst the owners live on site they are unobtrusive but available if needed. The location is at the top of a very steep hill so taxis were needed but these are readily available locally. Would happily stay here again !!
Alison
We had a fabulous time there was a little hitch with the heating when we arrived, but we arrived early and luckily it was available and Sheila kindly let us in which was lovely. Once her hubby came later to fix the heating it was lovely all wkend and we lit the log burner too. The kitchen was quite cold but as we didnt spend time in there it didnt really matter. The carding shed down the road does a fabulous breakfast and it was so different and quirky l. We would revisit as holmfirth is so fun and lovely and lively, we spent all afternoon early evening visiting different pubs and went for a lovely curry too. Taxi was easy to get back as the curry house rang for us and it was 15 for a 6 seater, so worth it as the hill is very steep to walk up and it was raining. Overall it was a fun visit
Great location just up the road from a load of cafes, restaurants and pubs. House had great amenities but the downstairs was freezing cold despite following the instructions for the thermostat. House was also pretty dirty, there was a used earbud under our bed.
Please see below for an updated and formatted review Positives Proximity to Holmfirth, owner was responsive when contacted, the hot tub was warm, solid and quick WiFi. The kitchen had plenty of roasting trays and a good selection of utensils. Negatives The front door could not be opened on arrival and it was pouring with rain. Access was only gained as the cleaners had left their keys in the patio door, later that evening the front door handle came off the door while closing it and a repair person had to be called out the following day, apparently the spindle had broken perhaps during the previous occupants stay. While we appreciate the owner was unwell, there was no meeting on arrival to answer any questions. The only meeting we had was with the son of the owner and when we advised we could not open the front door we were told to just 'give it a good shove'. There was no indication in the house instructions of where the dog could be let out also. The property was quite dusty all round and there had been no cleaning behind sofas and doors. Keeping in mind this was a dog friendly location the vacuum was locked away and was only found by mistake as the 'cleaners' had left the cupboard keys. The residents had to ask for the hoover to be made available with a battery. The hoover was also found to be dirty and clogged with hair. The hot tub was also quite dirty in the bottom with grit and had clearly not been cleaned out for a while. The downstairs heating would not work while the log burner was lit so the lower ground floor kitchen was very cold 13 degrees as the thermostat is on the middle ground floor near the log burner. This meant that preparing food was challenging because of the cold. There were no tea towels, and the kitchen was lacking in saucepans to cook with and ovenproof cookware to keep food warm. Only 2 dishwasher tablets were provided for 6 people over 4 days, 'to get us started'! Luckily, we had brought teatowels but were given no indication of the need to bring dishwasher tablets. Purchasing washing up liquid was required as the bottle was nearly empty. Bedroom 1 with the ensuite was a good size, as was the bathroom, but there was no hanging storage because the single cupboard couldn't accommodate a normal coat hanger's width. Bedside tables were the only storage. Bedrooms 2 & 3 had no hanging cupboards. Bedroom 2 only had a small 3' high cupboard with two singles beds together and pushed up against the wall and the twin room bedroom 3 only had a bedside table. Everyone had to live out of suitcases for 4 days. The adhesive door hooks fell off regularly with only so much as a towel hanging on one. There were also no mirrors in any of the bedrooms, only the ensuite and main bathroom. The bedroom walls were very thin with no soundproofing so snoring could be heard across the rooms. The living area wasn't particularly comfortable as the two sofas couldn't accommodate 6 people. The sofas also had to be moved so that both sides of the dining table could be accessed away from the wall. The living room felt like it had furniture in it that simply didn't suit the utility of the room and number of people staying. A large low table was in one corner of the room that served no purpose and there were no instructions on how to operate the heating controls. Unfortunately, given all the above we would not recommend this property at this price point.

We had a beautiful Xmas in the barn despite horrible weather. The dining area was very small for 6 people, impossible to access the table. After we moved the furniture that was much better. I would have loved to have a broom . For a X mas dinner there might have been some more pans. Overall though it is very cosy, clean, friendly. We had a great time.
Lovely accomidation, great location with plenty of walks! Super comfy beds and lovely cosy living room. We couldnt seem to find any logs for the fire as the basket where they looked like they had been stored was empty on reflection we could have messaged to ask so there might have been some available. Would recommend to friends or family, thank you
My work mate and I stayed again whilst working up in the area. That speaks volumesits lovely, and we will be back again for sure. Highly recommended
Lindsey
The property was beautiful and the beds were the comfiest weve ever slept in! Everything we needed was there and we loved the little extras which were left for us on arrival.
