Rough Bank Barn Reviews

Lesley
Amazing family weekend in a lovely place and atmosphere
Michael
Rough Bank Barn is an amazing house. Very spacious and was great for our group of 8 adults 3 children 1 Baby and 2 dogs. The kitchen was a good size and well equipped. The Arga was brilliant and with the other ovens made it possible to cook meals for the 11 people in our party. This included a full Sunday dinner. Although there was several different types of wine glasses, there was we feel a shortage of ordinary drinking glasses. The dining room was a good size and ideal for our family meals. Although the weather was less than perfect at times the house always felt warm and cosy. The bedrooms were a good size and comfortable. The beams although nice were dusty and painfully low for some of the taller members of our party. The hot tub and BBQ hut were amazing and a big hit with everyone. Despite the weather the views were wonderful and enjoyed by all. The butchers in Newhey was very good and sells very tasty Sausages, Bacon and Pies. There are several supermarkets within a 10 to 15 minutes drive and despite the road being a little tricky we were also able to get a supermarket delivery. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for any large group holiday or celebration.
Rough Bank Barn is the most amazing place to stay! The pictures dont do it justice! We already want to come back for another occasion. Everutning you could possibly want and more. Ruth and her husband were so lovely and couldnt do enough for us. Thank you x
Jessica
Beautiful property, would definitely stay again and recommend
George
Views from the house lovely. Lovely situation but tricky road access. House was comfortable however I was disappointed that only one out of six bedrooms had ensuite facilities. The kitchen looked tired and in need of upgrade. The BBQ and Hot tub were a great addition to the property. The design of the layout splits the house in two halves which personally is not for me but all the amenities were there. I would also say the check out time put a huge constraint on us as a family of 10 with 3 young children . Much better check out for 11am and check in put back to 4pm. These are just my own thoughts but overall the family had a great time at Rough Bank Barn and that is the important thing.
This was a wonderful cottage for the twelve of us and two dogs. We are three generations of a family and the layout suited us perfectly. The hot tub and barbecue hut were added bonuses. The garden was secure for dogs and small persons and was beautifully maintained.

I booked this property for 12 of us for my sister's hen do. It was the perfect place to stay. Plenty of space for everyone to socialise inside and outside. The hot tub is huge and fit all of us in!!! The BBQ hut was great. The beds were very comfortable.
Lovely time with friends to celebrate a birthday. Location is great for those that like a walk but also some seclusionprivacy. Hot tub and BBQ area we're amazing too!
What a stunning property. Beautiful views, gorgeous garden. Covered hot tub and barbecue which we made full use of. Massive lounge and dining area ideal to accommodate our group of 12 women. We had plenty of space for the dance lesson we had arranged. Kitchen was well stocked, fabulous Aga and all the crockery, cutlery and glasses you could ever need. Bedrooms beautiful, comfy beds, stylish bathrooms and lots of towels. The only minor desire that could have improved the experience would be addition of jets in the hot tub. Good communication from the owner and we were offered a late check out free of charge. Thank you for a wonderful stay
This was a beautiful property which we had a magical weekend in. We're so happy with all the facilities and it was wonderfully welcoming. Thank you!
What a gorgeous property! Just celebrated a 60th birthday with family members age range 2yrs to 60! So clean, warm and comfortablea really home from home. Plenty of space for us all. Hot tub and bbq hut a real bonus feature. Garden spacious and totally enclosed kids and dogs had a ball! Would 100 recommend this property. We made special memories this stay with a much loved husband, dad and grandad. Thank you
Beautiful property with views which is kept to high standards. Very clean and comfortable which suited all our party with ages ranging from 20 to 85 years old. Hot tub was fantastic so lovely and warm and special towels were provided for the tub a lovely touch. Couldn't fault anything and would love to return in the future.
Monique
Super. We really had a great time together in the lovely, warm welcoming cottage. Clean, very spacious everywhere. Nothing to complain about. Lovely warm jacuzzi. IT WAS GREAT!
Excellent long weekend with family, celebrating Dad's 80th birthday. Perfect get away and would love to stay again. Thank you!
Robert John
Loved views and family sized facilities. Good practical garden. Brilliant for walking. May be a little isolated for some people but that is part of its appeal.
This is such a beautiful, well equipped property it was our third stay here and Im sure we will come again.
Joanne
The property is fantastic with all the amenities you require for a stress free break away. Highly recommend staying here.
Fantastic place to stay for 11 people and room for one more! Never felt like we were crowded. Beautiful views and beautiful house. Plenty of parking space and good sized rooms, the showers were amazing and we never got cold because of the Aga. Thank you for letting us stay.
We had a wonderful stay at Rough Bank Barn for 3 big family birthdays. All generations of the family enjoyed the stay. The hot tub was a big favourite of the children and the BBQ meant we could grill despite the weather being very wet! The barn itself I was gorgeous with a great social space downstairs which automatically brings everyone together. Really comfy beds, though the upstairs bedrooms arent the quietest, so Id suggest having those who are early to bed or like a lie in to be downstairs. Its a tranquil setting, with good walks around the area and easy access to Newhey village its a steep track though so anyone with limited fitnessmobility might struggle with the walk back up! Great communication from the hosts when needed, wed definitely stay again.
Great property and clean but had problems with the water supply and the hot tub. The tub was slimy and when we all got out we all had a real musty smell on our bodies. The wife wanted a bath to have a soak after the tub and when the plug was removed to let the water out there was a load of grit left as residue at the bottom. Not great
Angela
We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend break with friends and family celebrating my 60th birthday and our engagement. The house and garden is perfect as a party house with lots of space for eating, dancing and general party shenanigans! Hugo the bulldog loved the enclosed garden and we were never worried he could escape. The hot tub was ready for us on arrival it is just a hot tub without bubbles and we made the most of this and the fabulous BBQ hut. We couldnt quite get the hang of the Arga cooker but managed well enough. We did want the beds that could be separated to be so but this wasnt done on our arrival. However, with a phone call the owners came and supplied us with more linen so we could do it ourselves. A wonderfully memorable birthday and engagement party was had by all. Thank you and we will have no hesitation in recommending you to friends and family.
Georgia
We had a brilliant stay, group of 12 ladies everything you could need and within a short walk to the local village, perfect walks and the house is just amazing we had a great time thankyou. The owner also let us have late checkout on Sunday which was massively appreciated thankyou so much for a great stay.
Lovely stay, which was super comfortable. Great to have the hot tub. Easy communication with hosts. Brilliant spot for nice walks and nearby pubs too. Only thing Id say is would have appreciated real glass for glasses and nicer mugs set which would just elevate the property.
Rebecca
A group of 12 of us had a fantastic weekend at Rough Bank Barn. The photos really dont do it justice as to how spacious it is. It was so well stocked and all facilities were wonderful. Ruth was also very helpful and easy to communicate with prior to the weekend and during the stay. The hot tub and fire pit were also great additions and we certainly made the most of them! I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.
Really superb property. Very happy with our stay and would recommend to others. Feedback 1 vent in ensuite bathroom not working. 2 Should have some glass rather than plastic wine glasses.
What a fabulous place for a family get together. The quality of the barn is first class. The hot tub and BBQ cabin were wonderful additions. The garden and house was dog friendly with amazing views and walks on the doorstep. The house being decorated for Christmas was lovely. The owners have thought of everything to offer the best stay and we could not have wished for anything better. Thank you!
All the family reported being delighted with this great property and facilities. bedding and towels lovely quality. underfloor heating provided welcome warmth. hot tub wonderful. we enjoyed the local reservoir for walksruns. a few challenges reported for our relative who is wheelchairdependent. She can walk a limited distance with support, this was essential. She could not access any showers due to steps. for those unable to mobilise they would have faced more difficulties. using the aga for cooking was a bit challenging for the inexperienced baking cakes and heating oil for frying but we ate well!
We had such a wonderful stay, all needs catered for and perfect for little children, dogs and adults. Thank you for being wonderful hosts. We particularly loved having the fire pit shed and the open plan kitchen, dining, living. Ruth and David were so helpful prior to coming and even once there too, responding very quickly to any questions. We'd love to come back again!
Angela
So much more than a holiday cottage it was a home from home. Everything we could need was provided, house was cosy and warm, decor excellent and the hot tub and bbq hut made for a memorable birthday celebration with friends. We are already recommending to other friends and family.
Lyndsay

We have had a lovely week at Rough Bank Barn. The house is lovely and cosy with brilliant facilities. The photos online do not do it justice. The house and garden are huge and in a private quiet area surrounded by the most gorgeous mountains and scenery. We couldnt fault it as the owners have thought of everything and provided so much down to cosy beds for our dogs. The bbq hut and hot tub hot were delightful and made good use of when the weather was a bit wet. Beds are luxurious and cosy and everywhere decorated lovely and bathrooms high spec. Barn in easy reach of great locations to visit or walks that are right on the doorstep of the barn. Can highly recommend staying here.
We had an amazing stay and Ruth and David were very friendly and welcoming to us, we would definitely come back! The barn is beautiful as is the garden and hot tub area with amazing views

Fantastic weekend in a truly wonderful property, the photos do not do it justice! The hobbit house with the log burner and the hot tub were unique and very cosy and the standard of the bedrooms and facilities were exactly what I wanted for my 40th birthday with my friends. Thank you so much
Christopher
A brilliant February half term stay, a lovely place for 3 families with their 2 dogs to enjoy a get together. A good size for everyone to enjoy their own space. Some lovely walks on the doorstep.
Amazing! 3 families equalled 11 people & 2 dogs. Plenty of room, even in the bbq hut. From pictures it looked like it wouldnt fit us all, but it did with room to spare! Big hit along with hot tub. Amazing views . Highly recommend the Cedar Tree for a meal. We will be back
The property was lovely, David and Ruth on hand to deal with any queries if required. The setup suited the three families, felt like we had our own wings, Hot tub well used along with the BBQ hut which was a great experience for us all. Lovely walks on your doorstep, Highly recommend
