Longstone Reviews

Alison
Another great week in Embleton. As always the cottage was so comfortable with a view that is ever changing. Were already looking forward to our next visit.
A little difficult to find, would be better with name direction sign outside of the tall walls. Once inside it wasnt a good start when my husband cut his shin on the corner of the bed frame which has a sharp corner all 3 beds are the same It was also disappointing to find that the log burning stove which we were looking forward to cosying up to as the wind was howling outside was an electric fire not quite what we imagined. Such a shame in a property which is available over cold autumn winter months. We were warm enough as we put the heating on, but not quite the same! I read through the property handbook when looking for the WiFi code, and to be honest was surprised at the tone, particularly regarding the tea and coffee which had been left in the tins in the kitchen and the insinuation that guests would take home whatever they could from the property which would result in being taken off their Christmas Card list We have never been asked to replace tea and coffee which has been provided in fact in the previous Sykes property we stayed in we were greeted with a delightful Welcome Basket in the kitchen which included high quality tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a pack of home made local biscuits. As it happens we had brought our own, so it did not affect us and we didnt use any of the ones provided, but I didnt like the insinuation. It did not make us feel welcomed to the cottage more tolerated. That continued as I read further, we have never and we rent quite a few properties been told to strip the bed before we left. Also, we were asked to check in later than we usually expect not good when its going dark and leave early in order to accommodate the cleaners schedule! By the way the vacuum should not have been left by them full of someone elses dog hair right outside the bathroom door if the cleaners cant get around their properties that really isnt our problem they should employ more people, rather than push your guests out of the door. If the rental on this cottage had been bargain basement the attitude could maybe have been expected, but it wasnt. We have paid less for properties within a few steps of the beach. Whilst on that subject the description of the position of this cottage is not quite correct its not a short walk, the sea is quite a lot further away than we expected. As a whole we were left a little disappointed with our stay. We didnt feel that we were being welcomed to stay by the owners and that the whole visit lacked generosity from the cheap toilet rolls two for 3 nights, and no spares in the cupboard? to the tone of the handbook. Maybe they have been caught out by guests who stole the lightbulbs, I dont know, but there is no need to tar us all with the same brush! At the price paid some nice little extras such as the aforementioned welcome gift would make all the difference! You would think the owners would be happy to have paying guests in November in the UK! Not being made to feel valued by them does not encourage a return visit to the property we will look elsewhere for our next stay in the area.
It might be helpful to those arriving in the dark to offer a more detailed description of the access to property in the email ie with the key access code etc 'you are looking for a dirt track not a finished road, the track is narrow & twisting'. Also I note it was in the information pack inside the property the fact that you can't park outside you need to offload & move your vehicle we ended up with a knock on door from none to pleased neighbour whilst still trying to get unpacked we've had friendlier welcomes!!
The cottage is in a great location with stunning views out to sea. We enjoyed some lovely sunrises and dramatic skies with rainbows. The cottage is comfortable with everything you need. Its a short walk to the village with a few pubs and village farm shop. We enjoyed the walk down to the beach across the golf course and onto the fabulous beach. Its such a great place. We loved our week here.
Another wonderful stay at Longstone , can't fault it ! !!

Great Cottage with a amazing view love staying here love seeing the Hares in the field will definitely be back
Longstone is a lovely property, excellent facilities, well maintained and clean. The view from the lounge window could not be beaten. Excellent location for the Northumberland Coast and Park. Had a few poor experiences with the Borders Bus Company on reliability. Sykes Holiday Company did not respond to a text before our stay on the availability of a hair dryer, hence their poor rating. Would we stay at Longstone again? A resounding YES.
Excellent accomodation in a very convenient location with outstanding views. It is close to the centre of Embleton but is private. From the living room the view is from Low Newton to the outline of Dunstansburgh castle including Embleton bay and the golf course.A variety of wildlife can be seen from numerous birds to Hares this year.It is possible to walk miles safely !
Stayed here a couple of times before. Will be happy to stay again. Views from back of property to Embleton bay excellent. TV easy if you follow the written instructions. Good WiFi. Great location for Grays Inn, dunstsnburgh castle hotel, Eleanors byre and the pizza place all within east walking distance. Great walks along the beach to Dunstanburgh Castle and then Craster if you fancy a longer distance to the South, and Low Newton with the Ship Inn to the North. Also bird hides and a nature trail.

Alison
Longstone is a lovely well equipped cottage, with spectacular views. It is clean and very comfortable , and the owner responds quickly to any concerns. We have now stayed in the cottage twice and will return.
A really lovely cottage in a stunning part of the UK. It was well presented and clean with all the things you could possibly need. A 10 minute walk to a really pleasant beach or short drive to local attractions like Alnwick Castle and Garden, Seahouses and Lindisfarne. A local playground was a nice bonus for my 3 and 7 year old and plenty of nice places to eat within walking distance. A few small personal preferences would be to have a sweeping brush for the floors as a cheaper alternative to buying Hoover bags as there was none supplied. Although my 3 year old was ok, smaller children might benefit from a safety gate for the stairs. We loved our stay here and will definitely be looking to book for next summer.
Great location, lovely views, everything you need in holiday accommodation. Only marked down due to lack of attention to detail which suggests that the owner has never actually stayed in the property No internal or external drying frames, cupboards illogically organised, glasses don't fit in the dishwasher, garden furniture sinks into the grass. And we've no idea what was actually in 'Henry' the vacuum cleaner, but the stench when we used him was overwhelming. All that said, we'd very, very, happily stay again.
Philip
Great cottage in a superb location with all local amenities required for a superb walkinggolfing break. We will hopefully be going back in October and next summer.
Very happy with our stay, the property has a commanding view over the coastline which was one of the big plus points when we were booking the week away. A great base for exploring this beautiful area of the country.
Another wonderful week's stay at Longstone. Introduced my new husband to the cottage and Embleton and he was very impressed. We had the chance to really relax on our honeymoon with the stunning views from the bedroom and living room. The bed is very comfortable with beautiful linen, the house was warm which we needed in the wet days. We will be back next year for our anniversary. We saw lots of wild life including a barn owl in the field below the house, song thrushes and enjoyed watching the swallows dipping over the fields and the geese, swans and heron passing by on their way to Low Newton nature reserve.
Lovely property in a great position with everything you need plus outstanding views
Another beautiful stay at Longstone , looking forward to our next one in August , everything superb
Catherine
Cottage was immaculate, warm, comfortable and what a belter of a view thank you for having us, we loved every moment.
William
A well presented and equipped cottage with exceedingly good views over the bay. The cottage was very clean and tidy on our arrival and it's location suited us. There were a few very minor niggles that I have reported to the owner and he has said he will look into these points. A note relevant to anyone looking to stay in early November the cottage is about 200m from where the annual town bonfire is lit on 5 November we didn't know this. Our dog, a timid border collie was terrified on this night shaking and panting uncontrollably from the effects of the aerial bombs and flashes in the sky. This is the only reason I have given 4 any other period and it would have been 5. I have asked the owner if he will include a note in his property description to highlight the closeness of the property to the bonfire site.
Third time we have stayed. That must say something. Would like a steamer sauce pan. Upstairs east window needs cleaning. Needs a extending mop for cleaner to reach? Toilet flush and basin tap very stiff to opperate.
Great location. Comfortable. Lovely views
Amazing views. Comfortable . Created a great feeling of calm.Loved the large dining table.Nicely decorated and furnished. Appreciated the space although there are only 2 of us, a property for 4 gives that extra bit of space we like. The large picture window was entertainment in itself just watching the birds, cows, mist , sunrise and sunsets. Lovely.
Lovely cottage with a fab view. Perfect base for exploring or just relaxing. Kitchen had everything you might need. A clothes line to dry tte washing on was the only thing I would suggest.
Superb !!! Fantastic view from cottage , lovely walks along Embleton Bay to Low Newton and Craster . Everything and more we could have wished for . Already booked for our return next year . The Towland family from Co.Durham
Great property, comfortable, clean. Superb views to coast. Enjoyed watching the barn owl and hares literally 30 m below us!
This is a lovely little cottage and the view from the lounge totally exceeded our expectations. It was spotlessley clean and had all the equipment necessary for a week's holiday. It is in a great location in the village of Embleton, just minutes walk from two lovely pubs and a well stocked farm shop. I would highly recommend this property.
Longstone Cottage is in a stunning location with amazing views of the countryside. There are easy walks straight from the door to the beach and then along the coastal path in 2 different directions. Everything we needed for a one week stay was provided in this comfortable and cosy house. I give 10 out of 10 to the cottage despite a couple of minor maintenance issues.
Barbara
Our fabulous 2nd stay in this lovely clean, warm, well equipped and perfectly located cottage. The stunning sea views from the large lounge window make it perfect whatever the weather. So perfect that we've already booked our 3rd stay for next March. Can't wait. Lots of perfects in the above....but it is.
Stephen
Great small cottage with fantastic views towards the sea from the upstairs living room with all the facilities we required to make a wonderful holiday over Christmas. Happy to recommend to others.
Excellent upside down property. Would not suit anyone with mobility problems.Stairs to living room are steep.View from living room gives wide expanse of land and sea.
Excellent base well placed for a walking and golf holiday coming back to wonderful views to the coast
A beautiful holiday house with a great view!
The cottage was in an excellent location with outstanding views and provided very comfortable and relaxing accommodation.
Great location and amazing sea view. Very comfortable.
Longstone is a lovely comfortable place to stay for a family holiday. Everything worked and it was useful to have a washing machine and dishwasher. Beds and chairs were comfy.
Lovely peaceful location and stunning sea view from first floor sitting room.
