Fawcetts Barn Reviews

Jon and Vicky
Fawcetts Barn was a great property for our two families. Its a little tricky to find down a very narrow lane but comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is very well equipped and the very generous welcome basket a lovely touch. The lounge is very comfortable with plenty of sofas and a lovely open fire. The beds are comfortable and the central room with the day bed is ideal for children, with books and toys our granddaughter loved it. The outside area is very small but there are stunning walks right from the doorstep. Great location for this beautiful area of Yorkshire. Thank you for a lovely family weekend.

On the whole Fawcetts Barn is a good property in a good location. If you have a very large vehicle it could be an issue getting in and out of the tight driveway. On arrival the property was very cold, especially in the lounge which is the first room you enter. The kitchen was warmer and upstairs rooms were warm. The dining room storage heater didn't work at all, so relied on a portable electric heater, of which there are several. There is no cold water to the basin in the en suite bathroom, and a very slow almost negligble amount of hot water. The towel railradiator didn't work either. Generally the property is clean, but on close inspection there is a significant amount of dust and debris in corners of several rooms, especially the dining room, kitchen, lounge. Most of the blinds are old and don't work, the lounge curtains are hanging off the curtain rails in several places and so the curtains don't close that well. I think the property needs a good clean and overhaul. On the plus side there is a very good ample fridge freezer, and a nice welcome pack was much appreciated.
I did e mail you re Fawcetts Barn. 1 It should be mentioned there is no downstairs toilet. 2 the garden is only the small patch in front of house. Excellent area of Yorkshire House clean and welcome basket of treats. Perfect for two families.
Very comfortable and spacious cottage giving great access onto the moors. Took a few attempts to find the cottage but once we ignored the satnav and followed the instructions we were fine. The most generous welcome pack Ive had
We had a lovely long weekend here with our two grown up sons, their partners and our grandson. The house was easy to find, very spacious and very wellequipped and the welcome basket was much appreciated. The limited outside space might be an issue for a longer stay the description says gardenpatio but there is only a small piece of grass at the front of the property and a picnic table tucked to the side. Both the king and double rooms are accessed through the single room, not just the double as mentioned in the description but this didnt bother us. We ate twice at the lovely pub which is just around the corner. We felt the cottage represented good value for money and would stay here again.
Sadly, this cottage did not live up to our expectations. The instructions to find the cottage are quite inadequate. We thought the interior looked very tired with threadbare carpets and over worn sofas. Spiders seem to have been busy around the fireplace weaving their webs. Our bed was not comfortable. We did though obtain a discounted price which we very much appreciated.

We were very happy with the accommodation It represented very good value for money and completely met our needs The instructions to find the cottage were a problem as the cafe which we needed to turn by no longer exists and the approach to the barn was extremely tight for our 2 4x4 vehicles so parking was very tight
We had a relaxing two night stay as a party of 7 plus a dog. The welcome basket on arrival was much appreciated thank you! Great Sky TV, games room with Wii console for the kids, lots of space, comfy beds and everything was clean. Maybe someone needs to put a blind up in the room with the single day bed though as it was really bright, really early? I know what people mean about the water pressure upstairs but it was no big deal. We had a lovely meal out at The Devonshire Arms next door. Theres no back garden just to make future guests aware only room for two cars at the front which was fine for us. Overall a really nice stay in a beautiful location.
We had a great stay in Fawcetts Barn. We had loads of space and everything we needed. It was a real home from home and in a great location to get out walking, running and exploring the dales.
A wonderful New Year stay with 3 generations. Good size for our party. Well equipped kitchen and plenty of room to sit around and play games, watch TV or sit and talk. The local pub, which was just around the corner, was fabulous to celebrate the New Year. A lovely welcome basket was a nice surprise and well appreciated even the dog got a treat On arrival it was difficult to find as the late check in time as it was dark. Tried to contact using number provided but no one answered. Had to stop and ask for directions. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
Excellent location for a lot of areas . Lovely welcome hamper. Well equipped kitchen and bathrooms. Directions to property need updating quite stressful.in the dark. We were looking for a.cafe that's no longer there. Few things need addressing. Poor hot water pressure especially in two bathrooms. Could do with a mattress that fits base or visa versa in main bedroom, a second bedside table and proper pillows.
Third time at Fawcetts Barn and its location, close to the Devonshire Arms, and the ability to have several walks from the front door are a big plus for us. Plenty of room to sleep 4 to 7 people. Loved the 65 tv.
Lovely cottage. Only complaint I would have is the water pressure from the hot tap in both bathrooms was poor. Also, and I find this with most holiday cottages, is the lack of places to put toiletries in the bathroom.

The Barn was very nice loved it , but electric tripped out at one point ,the cold water tap on the bath was the hot tap , the bin collection dates on the fridge need updating , also we tried to phone on the two telephone numbers given to us , no answers , or response ,how ever we did enjoy it , please be aware there is no garden , there is a table outside but it is at the side of the lane with traffic going by
We enjoyed our stay and the location was perfect with great walks from the barn. Plenty of amazing sights and places to visit all within an hour drive. We found the barn lovely and comfortable to stay in with a well equipped kitchen and lovely lounge to relax in with a blazing fire in the evening. Without the fire the lighting in the lounge is quite dark with only 2 wall lights and 1 standing lamp. My sons loved the Wii and the vast amount of games they could play. However from reading the visitor book we noticed that comments from last year had not be addressed by the owners. The hot water was still scalding and the shower in the shared bathroom was erratic to use, all mentioned in reviews. We also didn't realise, from the writeup, that the day bed was in a room you had to go through to access the 2 double bedded room. This made it awkward for the person sleeping in the room as you had to always walk through their room to also use the toilet in the night. The double bedroom has no wardrobe or chest of drawers to put clothes in, we had to either keep our clothes in our cases or put them in the many wardrobes in the other bedrooms. I can't ever remember staying anywhere without clothes storage in a bedroom. This is a shame as if these had been addressed would have been an amazing place in a fantastic location.

We had a wonderful week at Fancetts Barn a very clean cozy property in beautiful surroundings, the owner's had provided everything we could need, even Halloween decorations and a lovely welcome hamper with something for everyone even dog treat s for our dog. The coat rack in the garage was great for wet coats with lots of room to hang everything on. We will definitely book again it is a lovely area, and we enjoyed our holiday very much .Thankyou
Tracey
A beautiful cottage set in the lovely village of cracoe in the Yorkshire dales, a very well stocked cottage with everything you need very cosy large living area with 3 large bedrooms a great base to explore all that the dales has to offer would certainly recommend and would love to come back.
Christine
Lovely to see beautiful flower baskets outside and warm on entering the barn. Walks from the door onto the fell above were easy to access and the surrounding area offered many more. The WiFi was excellent. Towels were plentiful and soft. We thought the lighting wasnt adequate enough for the old barn. The price of the cottage did not reflect the quality of the furnishings which were a bit Spartan. Poor quality dirty carpets upstairs. Internal windows dirty with cobwebs. The Kitchen was well equipped but it was impossible to read the cooker oven controls. All floors downstairs were dirty with the kitchen floor damaged with a poor makeshift repair. There werent any coat hooks to hang wet coats and a toilet brush and more shelves in the bathrooms would be useful. There was dog dirt on the grass on arrival. We note previous advice has not been taken. Much thought is required.
Nicholas
We had a fabulous week in the beautiful Dales. Fawcetts Barn was a great place to stay, we out 10 year old twin boys and dog had a lovely stay. A fantastic base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, we had some top walks and days out. Also enjoyed being less than a minute from the Devonshire Arms pub! With many other top pubs and restaurants within 15 minutes. Thoroughly recommended
Fantastic welcome pack, far superior to any other cottage stay, great location ... Fantastic welcome pack, far superior to any other cottage stay, great location and lovely spacious property, lovely area and good dog walks, pub with restaurant 100 yds away Suggestions to enhance property even more Cleanliness, wardrobes were dusty, lack of mirrors and toilet brush in each of the bathrooms, bolts on bathroom doors especially if two familys staying, better lighting in the well equipped kitchen Overall we really enjoyed out weeks stay
Pamela
The location of the cottage was excellent the pub and cafe within a few hundred yards both excellent and definitely worth a visit. We were disappointed that there was no garden or patio area as described in the advert. Despite this we had a lovely holiday
Farm shop in photographs is well over 30 miles away in Cumbria deceptive! Staying for the weekend in at 5pm Fri and out at 10am Sun. Very pricey for a 2 night1 day stay. Beautiful accommodation though, great welcome pack, and although the pub was shut all weekend, and the village cafe on Sunday, the farm cafe down the road provided welcome supplies and refreshments.
A fantastic property in a beautiful location. Great facilities and an absolutely wonderful homely place to return to after a day walking in the Dales. Very highly recommended for families who love a peaceful walking holiday with the dog. We will definitely book again. We loved it so much that we really hoped to get snowed in. Thank you for making our short break walking holiday even better. Jane and family, LS26
The cottage was lovely, really comfortable and spacious. The real fire was well used and kept us cosy. The Christmas trees were a nice touch and much appreciated.
Philip
We had a lovely stay. Couldn't find the blue bin but it appeared on the morning of departure. A page in the information book about the available TV services and how to select them would be useful.
How lovely to arrive at the cottage in the dark to find lamps lit and heating on , fresh flowers and the best welcome basket Ive seen, there were treats for everyone . The cottage has a really comfy lounge, with plenty of sofa space for everyone, Our family of 5 plus Doris my sons springer had the best week exploring the beautiful dales , we were close to so many beautiful walks even the weather was kind to us
Miriam
Yes. Comfortable, warm and well equipped. Very helpful and reslonsive owner. Only issue is lighting. The barn does not attract natural light and more electric lighting would be very helpful especially given our age!
Cottage dark and gloomy. Parking very awkward. Place needs some freshening up. Didn't think it was worth a 4star rating. Bed pillows flat as pancakes. Cooker handle falling off. Place needs some TLC.
Really enjoyed our stay at Fawetts Barn. Pillows are very thin so if you dont mind extremely thin pillows I would suggest taking your own. Cleanliness could be better but other that that its a lovely place to stay. Beautiful countryside and walks if you enjoy walking. Devonshire Arms pub is around the corner and the food and hospitality is great.
Jennifer
Very large three bedrooms with bonus room with a single, desk, game player, games, bean bags with books and kid activities. The family bath and ensuite and kitchen are newly remodelled. Large dining room with table plus eat in kitchen space as well. Owner was very responsive with question about heating and it was very comfortable and quiet place to stay. We loved all the local hikes such as Malham cove, the steps up to the limestone pavements, and finished the circular walk wth Gordale Scar and Janet Foss waterfall. Bolton Abbey with hiking and activities for children was nearby as well as Parcevall Garden. Beautiful country side all around and market towns a short drive away.
There was a lot to like about the property very spacious with all the facilities inside you would need and the best 'welcome hamper' we've ever received. The sofas are all really comfortable & the kitchen was more or less fully stocked. The mattress in the master bedroom was on the firm side for me, but that's a personal thing. I think the property needs a little bit of TLC as there were a few little niggly things that could be easily sorted. It's a property that allows a dog, but if you are thinking of taking yours please be aware there is no back garden and whilst the description of the property talks of a lawn at the front of the property, this patch of grass is very small and potentially not safe to leave your dog off of lead due to it being beside the lane. The other big thing for us was how dark the main room of the property is only 2 small wall lights & without any sunlight during the day we had periods of sun late afternoon & evening it can be too dark to do a lot of things such as reading crosswords etc. A couple of standard lamps wouldn't go amiss!!
That home from home feeling x
Location lose to all the best parts of the Yorkshire Dales
Carolyn
Lovely area. Able to go for walks from the cottage. Cottage is large and great to have the games room with the Wii etc. No garden.
The holiday cottage was very well equipped and had ample space for us, however it was absolutely freezing for our entire stay. We really struggled to get the bedrooms above 16 degrees at night, despite the storage heaters being on and us making a fire in the lounge each evening. Consequently our 8 month old girl couldn't sleep and that meant a sleepless holiday for us all. Therefore regrettably we wouldn't recommend staying in this property in winter.
Sheila
I would highly recommend the barn. Fantastic accommodation with everything you could possibly need it was so well equipped & extremely comfortable. The welcome basket was so generous & very much appreciated.
