For Families
Cobblers Barn works better for older children who appreciate countryside walks and quiet surroundings. The open moorland setting offers space to explore. No dedicated play equipment or games room exists. The hot tub remains adult-supervised only. Younger families might prefer barns with more child-focused facilities. The rural location provides fresh air and outdoor freedom for active kids.
Groups Will Love...
The vaulted ceiling with exposed oak beams creates the most impressive feature at Cobblers Barn. Original timbers span the full length of the open-plan living space. These structural beams date back to the barn's agricultural past. The height and scale give a real sense of the building's history. Stone walls meet the oak frame where the roof rises. This authentic barn architecture makes the space feel special.
Pet Friendly
Cobblers Barn does not accept pets. The owners maintain a pet-free policy to accommodate guests with allergies. The surrounding moorland and fields would suit dogs well for walks. However, you'll need to find alternative accommodation if travelling with your pet. Several other barn conversions in the North Pennines area do welcome dogs. Consider these options if your pet needs to join your holiday.

Cobblers Barn Reviews

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at cobblers barn. The photos of the property don't do it justice. It's a beautiful house in a beautiful location. From booking to arriving the host was very helpful and welcoming. We will be booking again. Excellent
Beautiful cottage very well equipped, will definitely be looking to return in the near future
We have been to this cottage several times over the years and the standards remain high each time. The cottage is perfect for large groups with spacious lounge dining and kitchen areas comfy beds and plenty of bathrooms. The hot tub outside is in its own building with sofas so all the group could be together even if you are not in the hot tub. There is parking outside for two cars and space on the road for any more. There are two local pubs with great atmosphere and food and it is a short drive to Barnard castle which has shops restaurants and of course a castle. Karen is a great host and makes sure your stay is perfect she even leaves you treats and home made bread a great cottage.
We had a lovely time. We came for my daughters wedding and we wish we had booked cobblers barn for longer. Its simply lovely. Its very well equipped! The homemade bread was such a lovely touch! I would recommend cobblers barn to everyone! The owner Karen is such a lovely lady!
We found cobblers barn perfect for our stay. The place was immaculate and the owner was extremely helpful in showing us how to use the heating and facilities ect. Already looking at rebooking.
We had a fantastic stay at the Cobblers barn. The property was clean and cosy we loved that the Xmas decorations were still up. The hot tub was a crowd pleaser and easy to use.
Cobblers Barn is a very well equipped holiday home of the highest standard. The welcome gifts of freshly baked bread, cake, biscuits and milk were very well received. We enjoyed the hot tub after a day out walking in the surrounding countryside. Karen was very welcoming, from our intial chat to her checking in on our arrival to make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely a 5 star experience all round.
We are 6 ladies having a relaxing weekend away. Karen was so helpful and nothing was too much, the cottage is gorgeous and has everything needed for a relaxing time away would highly recommend this property
Lovely holiday house. Had a lovely cosy feeling. Very clean, beds comfortable, bathrooms clean and spacious. Hot tub room very good. Great goodies left for us, freshly made bread, biscuits and cake. Yummy. Pub and great park for children with football field within walking distance. Very happy, thank you.
Joanne
Beautiful property. Has everything you need.beds very comfortable.hot tub is fab.great for parking.we had 3 cars.short ride into barnard castle.only thing id like to see is locks on the bathroom doors, especially the shared bathroom
Stayed for a girly weekend. Ticked all the boxes. Hot tub was lovely. Nice little pub along the street. Had a really good time. Thank you
We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. The house was big enough for our family of ten. Everyone said their bed was comfortable. The dinning table was big enough to sit everyone. There was enough space in the living room for everyone to sit. The hot tub was a lovely bonus. The only negative for us was the number of steps between levels, sitting room, dinning room and kitchen, our elderly dog couldn't manage to get around. The house is well equipped, and the owners left us a cake, milk and freshly baked bread. The owner is friendly and on hand if needed. The village has two pubs, the crown where we had a lovely Sunday lunch. This pub is only open Fri, sat, and Sunday. The other pub is open from 3pm except on a Monday. The only food they offer is pizzas. They are very welcoming and dog friendly. Close by there is an observatory which we visited on the Saturday night. The team here are very enthusiastic and we all enjoyed looking at the night sky.
Lorraine
We had a great week away in this lovely house celebrating our Ruby wedding anniversary with our family. Karen, the owner was there to meet us on arrival to show us round and make sure we had everything we needed. There was cake, biscuits, milk and homemade bread still in the breadmaker which was absolutely delicious

The whole family thoroughly enjoyed the stay at Cobblers Barn as there was a lot of space to spend time, play the provided board games and eat together. The place looked even bigger and nicer when we got there compared to the pictures on the website and Karen was extremely welcoming, helping out wherever she could. Hanging out outside was really nice as there is sufficient garden space, outdoor seating and a beautiful view of the countryside. Loved the exposed beams, really added to the interior aesthetic of the place. The hot tub was really relaxing and the perfect way to unwind after a full day of activities. One main issue was with the Internet connectivity, specifically to the TVs and games console. If you're planning on streaming services etc. You won't be able to access them, although connecting via your mobile phone is fine. The service for mobile phone networks within the barn is also problematic, although this is likely down to the coverage in the area which can't really be changed by the host. Also, would feel more secure if there was some sort of covering on the bathroom windows or if they were frostedpatterned as they are quite low in the room. Overall, it was a brilliant stay and would highly recommend Cobblers Barn for your next family holiday!
Hannah
Lovely holiday cottage, perfect for our family week away to celebrate two 30th this year! Loads of room for 3 kids to enjoy the space! One thing we did struggle with was the oven as some of the temperature number had come off, so maybe the instructions close by, and maybe a note in the description of how many stairs are in the property, this didnt matter for us though! Other than that cannot fault the property, hopefully we will be back soon! Very comfy stay for everyone!
Richie
A beautiful property set in a wonderful area of the country. The photos online make it look lovely but it is even better once you arrive and see it in person. So much to see and do in the surrounding area. The arrival, with some little surprises were very well received, thank you. We highly recommend this property, whether you are looking to relax or want a beautiful location to get out and see what the north of England has to offer, this property offers everything and more. Thanks again.
What a lovely place to stay! Spotlessly clean, really well equipped, amazing hot tub what more could you ask! And Karen the host was excellent came to check everything was OK for us and answered a couple of queries no problem at all. Beautiful part of the country to explore as well, can highly recommend

Everything was perfect! A wonderful, well equipped kitchen but we did have problems with the oven & grill regulating the temperature which affected cooking time. All in all a beautiful cottage, & we thoroughly enjoyed our ladies weekend here. Lots of space, very clean, loved the log burner, beds were super comfortable, bedding was fresh & crisp. Hot tub being enclosed was ideal too. Easy communication with the host & a really thoughtful welcome pack, along with fresh bread was a wonderful arrival gift. Thank you so much
An unforgettable family trip made entirely by Cobblers Barn and its beautiful and plentiful facilities. Karen was fantastic from our first conversation, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend your lovely cottage to anyone I know. Ive stayed in many properties via Sykes now and this is by far my favourite. Thank you for having us all, we hope to be back.
Beverly
We had a lovely week with the family herewe filled the house but never lacked for lounge space or dining room space. The kitchen was well equipped and we used the BBQ a couple times. The place was spotless. The owner was friendly and the hot tub a real bonus when youve had a long day out. Thank you to the owner for the welcome biscuits and cake and a wonderful aroma of fresh bread on arrival! Only a slight heads up, there are a few steps down to the kitchen but this didnt bother us. I would definitely book this again as it is a lovely area
Rachel
Lovely place and already booked for next year
One of the nicest property we have have stayed in! ! We have been coming to Mickleton for the last 4 years and can safely say the owners cannot do enough for you. Thank you for an amazing stay.
Second visit here. We absolutely LOVE it here. The barn is spacious clean and has a beautiful cosy feel to it. We had 2025 degree heat all week so a lot of our time was spent in the beautiful garden which lights up on a night. Karen is lovely and friendly and always on hand to help if any problems should arise. If youre thinking about staying here you absolutely should!
Very welcoming treats like freshly baked bread, cake and biscuits were a pleasant surprise. Bedrooms were very spacious, two with lovely ensuites. A bit more detail about the steps between living dining kitchen would have been helpful but it didnt put our group of oldies off! We very much enjoyed our stay.
Katherine
Lovely well equipped property with plenty of space . Everything covered for 8 people, 2 babies & a dog fridge, freezer , washer & dryer. Heating, hot water all available throughout the week. Hot tub fantastic.
Eileen
One of the best equipped houses we have stayed in kitchen wise, which was great because we all like to cook and eat in together. Bedrooms and bathrooms were modern, but still had the lovely exposed beams. Karen the owner was very friendly and goodies on arrival were very welcome.
Lovely place to stay! We were a group of 10 ladies and it was the perfect space for us. The hot tub was a bonus, we used it a lot. The owner, Karen, is really welcoming and cant do enough for you. There was fresh bread in the maker on our arrival, which was a lovely touch. This place is 1010 and Im already recommending it to anyone I can. Theres also a little pub down the road that serves food and its possibly the best pub lunch Ive had!

Me my husband my son his wife and 2 grandchildren spent the weekend in the cottage it was amazing Karen and her brother were very friendly and helpful couldnt do enough for us on arrival we had homemade bread biscuits and cake waiting for us they were lovely there was loads of space very well equipped kitchen books games toys and dvds for kids to watch they loved every minute lovely enclosed garden great for our dogs the hot tub room was great we went to the blacksmiths pub they were very friendly with treats for the dog and sweets for the kids the pizza was delicious all in all we had a fantastic weekend would definitely go back
Cobblers Barn is finished to a very high standard with plenty of seating the dining table and lounge seated our large group really well. The little goodies on arrival like fresh baked bread were welcomed. The house is warm and the bedding luxurious we visited Beamish and High Force but there is so much more to do in the area. The hot tub area is also a great feature.
Great property for a family escape! Big kitchen, large lounge with TV and stove. Garden area well maintained and catches the sun during the day. Large clean indoor hot tub. Only issue if you have elderly with you are the amount of stairs to dining room and kitchen. Also having to park on steep hill is awkward. But village is lovely and has two great individual pubsrestaurant. We would definitely consider a return. Thanks to Karen.
Had a great family holiday in this warm, homely Barn. We stayed for a week and loved every minute of it. Home cooked meals , party games and laughs. Very clean and welcoming . We will definitely return.
Lovely home, lovely welcoming gifts Very clean
