The Georgian town of Cockermouth (4 miles) was the birthplace of Wordsworth and has some wonderful pubs and restaurants. The nearest lakes are Crummock Water (6.5 miles) and Buttermere (9.5 miles) with Bassenthwaite Lake (8 miles), Ennerdale Water (12 miles) and Derwentwater (15 miles) also within easy reach. Other local attractions include Whinlatter Forest Park (8.5 miles) and the Derwent Pencil Museum in the market town of Keswick (16 miles).
